I enjoyed aspects of it. It’s not the worst Alien film, that’s for goddamn sure.
>>
>>214210818
Yeah its good. Its up there with the first two parts
>>
>>214210818
I loved the part where the black android changed. I wish that lasted longer and was more important to the plot.
>>
>>214210818
For me it's a 6/10
If it didn't have the groan-inducing unforced errors of Ian Holm's CGI face and the "Get away from her, you b-b-bitch" I might be able to give it an 8/10
>>
>>214210818
At least with The Force Awakens I didn't realize it's a complete rehash until they began assaulting the Starkiller Base
With this shit I was waiting for it to stop being a rehash since the very first minute

those plus some awkward moments where it just looks like bad capeshit cgi like where she shoots them all in zero gravity
>>
>>214210818
yeah i guess. i thought we we're getting a sequel to davids arc from prometheus and covenant but no such luck. seems like a liminal story that will segway into a new disney verse alien
>>
it was entertaining enough, especially compared to whatever the fuck Prometheus and Covenant were, but it still wasn’t very good as a movie

part of me wishes the franchise would just die as Alien’s and Aliens’ corpses have been abused enough
>>
>>214211204
>>214212932
Yeah, that sounds about right, It's average, elevated to slightly above only because Cailee is super fuckable.
I would watch more like these for sure, though I would like them to try more stuff instead of leaning so much on stuff from the other movies.

The scene where the bald girl gets facehugged was so hot. One of the hottest Ayylmao scenes other than the end of Alien obviously and the scene where the eggs get pumped down that girl's throat

I like the production and OST
its flawed from a script point of view but I like that it took risks and tried to do something new instead of the same ol
>crew getting picked off by xenos in a tight space
I like the idea of a group of scientists looking for our possible creators and all the things the movie touches on
Shaw and David are interesting characters
also has some memorable set pieces
>>
>>214213425
I understand and can agree with that, I don't think it's the best, but it's definitely pretty good but it has some really stupid bits for sure, that one in pic related was weird, the scene when Shaw extracts that thing from her is amazing but then she walks around half-naked and looking all beat up and no one seemed to notice or care
>>
>>214213195
I like this ranking except swap the first 2. also, if it counts i would place that fan made combination of Prometheus and covenant as first
>>
>>214211011
It was for me. Even the nu-Ridley slop at least had me interested in where it would go.
Disney is burning the candle at both ends for the Alien IP and even I'm surprised at how little I care about any of it. If it isn't weird, gross, and at least a little psychosexual, then it isn't Alien.
>>
>>214210818
>Alien/Aliens
>Alien 3

This is the only objectively true ranking of the franchise and /tv/ will only disagree because they're all contrarian

I am looking forward to seeing the incels on this board seethe in unison over tonight's episode of Alien Earth currently rated at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing.

The hate bandwagon is fake + forced by anti-Disney MAGAtards who can't appreciate postmodern expression.
>>
>>214213195
Prometheus is a retarded movie. The supposed scientists on space exploration act like what they are: Stock characters in a horror film. Meanwhile, David has somehow masterminded every minute detail of the plot as if he as writing the script. It's a terrible film.

I was into it for the first fifteen or so minutes. And then the hackneyed way a group of misfit teenage slaves managed to get aboard a gorillion dollar spaceship kind of took me out of it. Then the first kill happened, and I almost fell asleep. Then the rest of the movie happened, and I did fall asleep.
The only thing that I found interesting and/or horrifying was the last fifteen minutes. Not that is was particularly scary, but I did like the concept of the Bloodborne Babby and his(?) initial appearance.
That being said; did anybody get the impression aforementioned final act was directed by Ridley Scott? The lighting, editing, and cinematography looked completely different from the rest of the movie and the tone felt straight out of Prometheus. I'm like 90% sure he directed that ending, which feels a bit tacked on to begin with.
Anyway. The fucking movie felt like it was four hours long despite only being two. No chemistry between any of the cast and the android was gay as fuck, even if it was a good technical performance, and it was. Shame the franchise could never cast somebody decent to play one of the fifty non-android characters so that maybe I actually give a shit when they die.
3/10, never rewatching, zero interest in a sequel.
>>

>>214217153

>>
>>214217090
Not necessarily disagreeing, but Alien 3 has enough cool stuff going to reach uneven mediocrity, while Romulus at least works as a generic teen slasher with a mildly interesting performance by the android guy.
Prometheus, meanwhile, was one big waste of time, money and talent for everyone involved.
>>
>>214217196
>mildly interesting performance by the android guy.
Squinting your eyes like you have Trisomy 21 for the whole film is not """interesting""" at all.
>>
>>214217135
The only good bit was the humanoid alien. The regular alien has been done too much before and so has zero weight. Which is probably why they made the hack choice to just throw in a thousand of them instead of trying something new like Prometheus.

>a one-off* vidya gaem from 2014 developed by a comparatively small team of literally whos that only ever developed RTS titles is the only genuinely great work in the franchise since 1979
is Hollywood even trying?
>>
>>214217316
It was good up until it turned into stealth Call of Duty.
Also, vidya isn't art. Hollywood's worst still outranks it.
>>
Theres nothing wrong with a movie having fan references to old movies, even doing it as much as this movie did is fine. As long as it isnt a thing for every movie in the series.
>>
>>214217337
Who the fuck cares about art?
>The film also draws inspiration from the video game Alien: Isolation (2014).[27] This involved integrating the emergency phone registration points from the game into the film's set design. These phones, which functioned as save points in the game, served as easter eggs that would foreshadow impending danger for the audience.[28] The pregnancy of character Kay was inspired by Dina from The Last of Us Part II (2020) due to Álvarez playing the game while writing the film.[29][30]

>>
>>214217393

>>214217337
>Hollywood's worst still outranks it.
You don't earnestly believe this.
>>
>>214217484
It basically goes like this.
>Ebert said games could never be art
>tons of people called him an idiot
>he then apologized for speaking about games without knowing anything about them
So he gave his opinion on something without knowing anything about it, not unlike calling a movie shit without seeing the movie, nonetheless he maintained his opinion, I bet he posted here regularly.
>>
>>214217393
>Theres nothing wrong with a movie having fan references to old movies
Honestly, Romulus makes me realize I haven't been hard enough on these superfluous appeals to nostalgia. If you ever want another movie as good as the original, Alien or whatever else, then you can't tolerate that trash in the slightest degree.
>>
>>214217537
Look, video games are not art whether you like it or not, pal. You should've listened to Miyamoto. Any project you directly interact with is no longer art, but a toy. Vidya is the latter and what its intended for as electronic products. A moving picture is the director's vision and what he wants the audience to see and not touch.
Your method of thinking is why the vidya industry is currently plagued with woke movie games and your kind deserve to be gatekept out of the my fucking hobby.

Because modern gamers are fucking idiots plagued with sonygger-coded brainrot, no different from """people""" who voted for Biden.
>>he then apologized for speaking about games without knowing anything about them
Only because he was dying from cancer. His apology had layers of insincerity. He didn't truly think toys meant for children and mentally-stunded invalids could ever surpass the visual medium, and it still hasn't and never will.
>>
>>214217683
Aliens fucking sucked and is only loved by paint-huffing genetic deadends like you.
>>
>>214217622
You sound like you think before you speak a lot for how many specific assumptions you got from that.
Anon, your earlier post came across as though you think too highly of Hollywood and of the concept of art in general. Art doesn't mean anything is good and the ways in which vidya can be said to be artistic isn't 1:1 comparable to film as film isn't 1:1 with prose.
>>
>>214217715
You just have shit taste, it's okay to be wrong

Based. Isolation is better than 90% of the Alien franchise. And WAY scarier than all over them combined. It's funny how redditors whine that it's not worthy just because they need to actually interact and participate. They'd rather hide behind the couch with their eyes covered and the lights on, screaming that the protagonist is so stupid and they'd have done sooo much better against the monster.
