>Having a successful well paid career drove Gen-X insane.
>>
It really did, Kurt Cobain was on top of the world and just had a baby daughter and he blew his head off.
>>
>>214211400
Wasn't his job literally to evaluate the mangled corpses of families who died in accidents and figure out ways for the negligent companies responsible for those deaths to get away with it?

That seems like a really fucking awful job, I get why he eventually went nuts
>>
He was in debt from consumerism and had no friends or life beyond wageslaving

>We're the middle children of the history man, no purpose or place, we have no Great war, no Great depression, our great war is a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives, we've been all raised by television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars, but we won't and we're slowly learning that fact. and we're very very pissed off.”

yeah he is an interesting case, I think he made music that he personally wanted too and it blew up way huger than he could imagine. If I did a biopic for Kurt it would be of a very neurotic man who spent time worrying about selling out or being a corporate whore. The rest of his band trying to reassure him that he wasn't.

I believe stress exacerbated his stomach problems too which meant Kurt had a lot of pain he was covering up through heroin.

Kurt was basically a guy who did what he loved and it destroyed him. He had no way out since he was making too much money to quit.

What a lot of people don't seem to realize is that we live in a world of myths. And you're not supposed to realize they aren't true.

For example a lot of people STILL believe in the Disney concept of love. 4chan is pretty jaded so it's probably common knowledge here that disney love is just a concept invented to sell an idealized view for entertainment and not how romance works in reality.

However this is also true for something most people still don't realize: Happiness. People seem to have this idea that as long as you just are successful, have a great job, good income, bought your house, are happily married and have kids that you magically just become happy. As if it's some sort of formula you go through to achieve happiness.

In reality "happiness" in that form doesn't actually exist. How you feel right now is mostly how you're going to feel no matter what your personal circumstances are. Sure you will experience temporary highs and lows based on the circumstance but it always comes down to your regular patterns of thinking and feeling.

If your mental disposition is negative and you are a moody person with depressive tendencies then that will ALWAYS be the case, you could be emperor of the fucking universe and you would still be depressed and whining about the demiurge or something, you will look for something to complain and be unhappy about.

Meanwhile a person with a happy disposition will be the happiest person alive being homeless.

This is an extremely though pill to swallow for a lot of people because it essentially implies you are born happy or depressed, which is basically correct if you actually know a lot of people and how things affect them.

I say this as someone lucky enough to have a happy disposition on life and always believing everything will be okay. My mother and siblings are the same, which points towards a genetic factor at play here.

This film sucked but Brad Pitt made it kino. The split personality twist was fine but of course like all these arthouse “le I’m a cog in le machine” it goes off the rails in the third act and jsut shows why people like this need to be cogs because their minds are jaded and immature
>>
>>214213101
Nothing in this life is supposed to make you happy, YAHUAH makes you happy, all the other things are blessings he gives you that you appreciate but understand that when your time is up on earth they cannot enter the kingdom of heaven with you- finding happiness in life is pointless, you work because you have to, you do things because you’re good at them, you use your gifts to honor Yahuah- but other than that you understand it is all finite and has an expiration date

Selah.
>>
>>214212238
That is some retarded cope. “Making too much money to quit”. Just brain yourself fag. If he even did it to himself he did because he was a mentally ill and emotionally stunted manlet drug addict. He could of just quit. Nothing was stopping him from just cashing out and staying out of the public eye. I like his music and feel bad for how he ended but I hate Kurt idolizers so much.
>>
>>214213101
I was depressed for a few years and it didn't go away with a change in circumstances or even wealth (that was never a concern to be honest, we were always doing well) but with my outlook. O still needed to go through several experiences such as making friends and learning how to manage that before I got to a point where I'm generally cheerful with depressive episodes.
>>
>>214212238
He already romanticized getting famous and dying young by his mid teens. He probably just didn't realize it would actually feel as shitty and complicated as it did. Also, I've begun to wonder recently if his stomach issue might be related to using cannabis. It lines up with him starting use in his teens.

The dude was a total fag. He wanted grunge to replace metal but grunge is such a boring style of music. And why did he even try to make it into a genre war? It was a one sided conflict. The guy was just a nutcase who'd suckstart his shotgun regardless
>>
>>214213719
The human condition is to always want. For people who grow up in strife—the silent gen, the impoverished, Palestinians—the want is obvious: to be free of the material torment. For those who live comfortable lives in comfortable environments, the torment is spiritual. They want something to want.
>>
>>214212897

It's something you say when you're a retarded high schooler in a first world country who never had to go hungry a day in his life, or worry about having your brains blown out by an enemy sniper. In the 90s, the Soviet Union collapsed, Japan, an economic threat, stagnated, and America literally had no enemies.
So the CIA and Mossad began making their own enemies of America.
The Gulf War wasn't enough.

What you kids fail to realize is that corporate office drone bullshit is way worse when you don't have a computer in your pocket. You're stuck in a cubicle with a bunch of fucking highschool losers reliving the same class hierarchy in the workplace. The snitches, the bullies, the nerds, the office whores. Everything. You are forced to fake interact, fake dress, fake pretend for 10+ hours a day with no escape. No phone. No music. Nothing. Just sitting there droning by on one tiny small screen that hurts your eyes. Crack a smile the wrong way and some faggot reports you to HR to get their good goy points begging for that raise.

Everything is slow as shit. Everything needs a physical copy. You are wearing dumb fucking uncomfortable clothing every day. At least open office piggies have windows. Cubicle life is literally bright white lights on bright white walls on bright white paper all day every day. It is the epitome of soul sucking.
>>
>>214214734
there are no white collar jobs that arent soul sucking outside of unique/rare roles like tenured academic, C-suite executive, scientist at a national lab, et cetera.

The truth is far worse. We are in a permanent depression. Young people have been in a constant economic downturn. There doesn't need to be 1 bif great depression that lasts a couple of years. There can be one that lasts 20 years.
>>
>>214215391
a good friend of mine fell off the wagon and ended up in a padded cell for a month or two. when he got out he was on SSRIs and was not a conscious human being. He used to be a real fucking person and now he's gone but instead of burying him I get to bump into his corpse shuffling through Walmart every month or so. What a fucking waste.
>>
>>214213719
The deeper meaning is lost on us because the peak of the 80s and 90s economies are long gone and the middle class has been struggling since the recession in a way even the most pessimistic people couldn't have predicted.
All these movies that talked down to middle Americans for their lifestyles just aged terribly
>>
>>214215391
>what if you take an SSRI though
They help some people, maybe not too many. Many people they do not help, some people they hurt, sort of "make numb." There maybe worth a try if you're in really bad shape? That's basically the answer.
>>
>>214211558

>You're stuck in a cubicle with a bunch of fucking highschool losers reliving the same class hierarchy in the workplace. The snitches, the bullies, the nerds, the office whores. Everything.
This isn't true in the admittedly one office where I worked, or the two internships, which were just three months each. Everyone was basically "normal" and nice without any immature high school type relations. The only exception is the HR woman (lol) had a strange argument with a new woman employee, which resulted in the HR girl being fired. I never understood exactly what that was about, but it seemed strange for 30 yo adults to be involved in. Otherwise it was just nice, smart adults doing their jobs.
>>
>>214212118
Better to have a purpose to live and die for than nothing at all. Struggle has made "us" what we are, far scrappier and smarter than we would have been if we just walked around in the tropics eating fruit all day without any struggles at all (lookin at you, Africa.)

>>214213862
That's a curse, not a proverb. The years that pass without incidence are a blessing compared to when things are happening and "interesting," of which 99% is plague, famine, or war.
