I would like to also add that all Aronofsky's films are like that. They never get viewers in cinema, despite being good films. The Fountain for example is one of my all time favorite films and I think nobody saw it.

Trailer was anti-sales. Senseless chaos compared to the clear goals/challenges of Novocaine. Marketing of the 2 "leads" have nothing to do with the story/character, which should be about a "loser" trying to overcome new troubles in his life. Not sex scenes + skin.
