The house represented her desire to be free from Tony by asserting her own independence but, as we see throughout the series, Carmella doesn't actually want freedom - she just wants to continue enjoying the lifestyle Tony provides without all the downsides of being married to an unfaithful sociopath. She's one of the worst hypocrites in the show for that reason.

It's not. It's not presented that way in the show, either. Hugh was in charge of the construction and through the storyline we see he and her mother are just as corrupt as Tony, even ripping off their own kid.
