Brainiac is revealed to be the big DCU villain at the end of the movie. He employed Lobo to hunt down Supergirl but Lobo fails, setting up Brainiac to take a more hands-on approach in the future. Brainiac also learns of Earth and the heroes there. Most of the movie takes place off Earth, which explains why Superman and the Justice Gang don't intervene and help. Krypto has roughly the sane amount of screentime as he did in Superman. A few Green Lanterns appear and Martian Manhunter is referenced. No mention of Darksied. Superman does appear, but not in a big role. He mentions putting together a group of like-minded individuals to defend Earth but Supergirl literally calls it lame and decides to do her own thing while remaining on Earth. Story revolves around Supergirl realizing that she can't just live for herself and that being a constant party girl isn't what she should be doing. That's just about all I know.
Also, WB and Gunn have been talking about avoiding the "girl boss" trope, instead they're just focusing on good action and a fun story. No feminist messaging is apparently the goal.

The compromise they reached is that The Batman movies are going to be revealed to have taken place before Superman even appeared in this world, so they can be their own "standalone" series. We've already fast tracked number 3, and the script is actually being worked on at the moment. WB does not want another length of time similar to the one that's happened before The Batman 2. Expect the big reveal at the end of The Batman 3 to be Superman's appearance for the first time in that world.
