That makes the Exorcist literally Rosemary's Baby? A vague description that probably fits thousands of stories throughout human history?
>I watched both of these back to back and I found The Exorcist cheap and Rosemary Baby pretty intense.
Cheap in what way?
>>
>>214255190
it's unironically a massive snoozefest and when i watched it i spent the whole time being bored out of my skull
the only good bit was the soundtrack
otherwise it's typical cheesy old movie that people only pretend is good in the current year because they're scared of saying the "classics" are bad

Relied on thrills? A horror movie? You don't say. You might as well say it's horror movie that relies on well composed shots and creative lighting. God, so cheap!
>I was just more engaged with RB. Exorcist felt very one note.
Rosemary's Baby spends its entire runtime teasing the audience with what's obvious. Maybe you think it's effective, but how in the hell is it not one note?

isnt it remarkable OP. A jew director depicting faith in Jesus Christ as the ultimate weapon. Jews back then wanted to be apart of America.

Notice the way the jew director depicts Burke. Hes a pedo in Regens room so dies, regen confronts her mom for sleeping with burke (for the movie role) Burke is a /pol/ jew.

The Exorcist isn't that scary. It has good cinematography, but it isn't scary. More gross than scary, which is still its own kind of repulsion.
>>
what are some good sci-fi horror kinos? I've enjoyed everything from The Substance and The Thing to the when Black Mirror or Star Trek have dropped the occasional Horror gem.
>>
The Exorcist might be the most overrated horror film of all times.
It might have shocked (not scared) religious boomers and now christian larper zoomers have deluded themselves into thinking it's the scariest thing since the proclamation of emancipation, but that doesn't make it the best.
It's competent, and everything about its craftsmanship is good, but that's not enough for it to be rated as it is.

Same with Rosemary's Baby. Took me three attemps to get through that slog.

So, all in all, I must agree with >>214262912 - Halloween does btfo each one of them.

I loved Halloween as a kid, but whenever I rewatch it I can't over how cheap the film looks. So much of it is so lazily shot, as if they shot it over a couple of weekends (which they probably did). It's one of Carpenter's lesser works from his glory days, but people treat it as being in league with the Thing.
>>214262987
Yep, it's pure exploitation at its heart, but strangely people treat it with reverence.
>>214263365
>Took me three attemps to get through that slog.
I don't like that movie, but it shouldn't take you three attempts to get through it. You're basically just announcing that you have a shit attention span.

>carried by its first half hour

>>
>>214265261
>You're basically just announcing that you have a shit attention span.
No, not at all, anti-Sherlock.
I am announcing that it's a boring piece of shit.

Just this weekend I rewatched Godfather 2, which is like a good hour longer, but it's engaging and interesting and it's not hard to enjoy every minute of it. If you don't agree with my example, name some other film that warrants having a non-shit attention span. I have probably watched it without having had to try.
>>
>>214265390
rosemary baby is fantastic, you only ousted yourself as a pleb. Also admitted your a closet homosexual. Preferring the bastardization of family over the sacrifice of innocence

ninth gate pleb i take it. Its good because its very easily to follow, inspired numerous films in the decades after, is performed well and has a great climax (like your mother and i) but this is the lasts exchange, "joos" just outs you a lost poster from a certain site
>>

I am talking about The Tenant btw. 9th Gate is a nice adventure thriller though and also better than RB.
>>
>>214265947
repulsion? you got me confused with another anon, i only jumped in when you called rosemary boring. Its just such a simpleton take, all pacing of 60s,70s film are that way. They let scenes linger, actors have more time delivering lines. Halloween is a top 5 in the genre, i just believe films like Exorcist, Alien, Rosemary Baby, The Thing deliverr atmosphere with verisimilitude. Roman rrervealed their shit, dont think that shit with manson was coincidence.

I already told you, I don't like Rosemary's Baby. It's just that, if it took you three times to finish the movie, that says a lot more about you than the movie. You're saying I have no arguments? How else am I supposed to respond to that post? You said you don't have a shit attention span because you watched the Godfather 2 and you weren't bored. Like huh? How about Star Wars? Did you manage to make it through that in one viewing?
>>
>>214253541
I don’t even see this as a horror movie. It’s a deeply personal film about faith and character study. It’s a commentary on the faith in a rapidly modernising world of broken people, technology, cynicism and evil. It’s a fantastic movie.
>>
>>214266083
Go back a few posts where I replied to the dumb frogposter. I was explicitly stating The Godfather 2 as a film I enjoyed. I have problems with boring films, which Rosemary's Baby is. That is all.

Carpenter has a lot of great soundtracks though. Both Halloween and the Thing are horror movies. The latter is considerably better, and I think a lot of films from Carpenter's heyday are better than Halloween. Saying it's the best horror movie of all time seems like a stretch.
