>it's the most boring Reddit movie I've ever seen
You guys suck.
>>
>>214253847
You have no taste at all
>>
I've never seen this movie praised. It's always some boring ass yapping about how allegorical it is.
>>
>>214253847
that’s your fault for watching brad pitt movies after moneyball
>>
Oh man, just wait till you watch Drive
>>
>john wick
>kingsman
>boondock saints
This place has recommended me some truly terrible movies
>>
>>214253847
It's a frustrating film. You have top tier source material. An amazing director ans cast and it doesn't work at all. There are films which have mediocre cast and crews, but the chemistry "clicks" and it becomes a goos film. This was like the opposite. Just simple things, like changing the location from Boston to Louisiana and the era from 70's to present day felt really off.

>The robbery scene
>The scene with Gandolfini in the hotel room
>The ending in the bar
Only good scenes in the movie.

I don't even get what it's trying to be an allegory to other than something something Bush something Obama something Great Recession.
It feels like a schizo dream in 2025.
>>
>>214253847
It's an objectively bad movie but it has great vibes and it's fun.
>>214253970
Kingsman and Boondock Saints are reddit trash. The first John Wick was haute slop i.e. it was okay. All the Wick sequels were ass though.
>>
>>214254112
why would he do that
>>
>>214253970
boondock saints is a movie geriatric millennials liked when they (we) were in high school, but they haven't seen it since and still recommend it. I re-watched it and can see why a 12 year old would like it but it's shit when you're older.

Andrew Dominik is the biggest pleb filter.

It always distracts me so much that the film is meant to take place in Boston, but it is so obviously New Orleans it's like they didn't even try. You really cannot shoot New Orleans for Boston.

No one here 'praises' it. It's a small/quaint movie that anons have fond memories of.
>it's the most boring Reddit movie I've ever seen
How is it reddit?
>>214253917
>>214254282
>I didn't like it because I got filtered
lol yea ok. It's an allegory for the commercial aspect of American society told through a mob story.
>>
>>214256125
It’s actually the death and funeral of the mob story as a narrative vehicle.
Using common mob tropes and actors was brilliant. The whole genre is dead and stale. Now fucking pay me.
>>
>>214256193
>It’s actually the death and funeral of the mob story as a narrative vehicle.
Yeah that too, I focused on allegory since that's what those guys were asking about. Dying of the mob part showed how they were solely focused on money now and less interested in maintaining relationships the way they used to, which still ties into the overly commercial or capitalist aspect of things. The final scene is very on the nose as Pitt's character points at the tv and explains that he and the mob are doing the same thing that the politicians are doing while they all lie about it
>>
>>214255628
Man, that director was the biggest douche in the world. He wanted his band to get a contract or he would walk, making all types of demands. He was a bartender and he became a diva overnight. He believed his own hype and blew it.
>>
>>214253847
The vibe of it is really good. Dominik's films all have that so I would recommend not going into it expecting a lot of plot. I always thought it was funny the poster, OPs pic, is a moment that happens for like 30 seconds at the very end. I love the whole thing but I hate the ending monologue, it's meme tier.
>>
>>214255812
The heroin scene was pretty cool.

Who ever praised this shit

Did you even know that was johnny sack

It's like the peak definition of a reddit movie.
>relies on a gimmick of splicing footage/audio of the 2008 presidential campaign over the movie
>VERY quickly run the gimmick into the ground and continue to beat its corpse
>overlays 10 second clips of random Bush/Obama speeches over a gangster poker game like it's some profound parallel on how THE MAN IS FUCKING YOU OVER, GOVERNMENT BAAAAD
>falls apart in mindless writing and a virtually non-existent screenplay, this could have been a 10 minute short and nothing would be lost
>meaningless dialogue sounds like edgy teenagers tried to emulate Tarantino
>certain scenes are randomly stylized to such a retardedly out-of-place extreme that they're laughable
>LE TONGUE IN CHEEK GANDOLFINI CAMEO :3
>violence so random and inapposite that it just feels tasteless and disgusting
>entire movie is written around a single monologue at the very end of the film
>>
>>214253847
The only redeeming factor of the movie is James Gandolfini's performance. Everything else is a fucking snore.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riuOoR0OyR0
>>
>>214256704
I preferred his portrayal of a washed up mafioso in the drop.
>>
>>214256691
None of that sounds reddit me but kudos on breaking down what you didn't like about it.
>entire movie is written around a single monologue at the very end of the film
this is the only part that I agree with. I think it was a cool scene but looking back I can see how it may come across as forced.
>>
>>214253847
i watched for gandolfini and was disappointed
i'd rather have rewatched 8MM
>>
The book it's based on, Cogan's Trade, is excellent. The corny new title they came up with tells you everything you need to know about the movie.
>>
>>214257251
Do you reckon it has anything to do with the friends of eddie coyle
>>
>>214257251
Does Dillon know about this?
>>
>>214253847
It's just not good, it had some good/interesting scenes, but overall, whatever point it's trying to make just doesnt come through at all.
Brad Pitt is horribly miscast to the detriment of the movie, especially the ending scene.
It just comes across as a crime/mobster movie made by a sheltered middle class white dude who has no idea what street crime looks like in the 21st century.

>>214255683
>Andrew Dominik is the biggest pleb filter.
Dude made one good movie and one great one, that doesnt mean everything he makes is gold.

That faggy bit at the end with obama and the communist bullshit for one. I do not remember much else, that movie sucked.
