>>214253847It's a frustrating film. You have top tier source material. An amazing director ans cast and it doesn't work at all. There are films which have mediocre cast and crews, but the chemistry "clicks" and it becomes a goos film. This was like the opposite. Just simple things, like changing the location from Boston to Louisiana and the era from 70's to present day felt really off.

It always distracts me so much that the film is meant to take place in Boston, but it is so obviously New Orleans it's like they didn't even try. You really cannot shoot New Orleans for Boston.

Dying of the mob part showed how they were solely focused on money now and less interested in maintaining relationships the way they used to, which still ties into the overly commercial or capitalist aspect of things. The final scene is very on the nose as Pitt's character points at the tv and explains that he and the mob are doing the same thing that the politicians are doing while they all lie about it
