finally got around to watching this after years and years of hearing how it's just "nonsense torture porn". what the fuck is everyone smoking? this is WAY less torture porny than something like the Saw franchise and it's actually a pretty fun horror flick with some good practical gore effects. I don't get the hate

Watched Succubus(2024) on recommendation from an Anon last thread. Pretty good. It's kind of funny the film does a similar "most of the movie is video calls" thing that the most recent War of The Worlds does, but the latter comes across as stupid and incompetent while this actually makes the gimmick work.

this was always the best of the torture porn flicks. a serial killer who puts his victims in an elaborate trap designed to maim and kill is fun and spooky. elites paying to torture and kill kidnapped peasants is genuinely scary shit

dude thanks for saying that. I was avoiding that for the same reason so I'll give it a shot now.

Also, recently one of my friends was saying Saw 1 was actually not that bad either. So I rewatched and and he was actually correct. It's mostly just the two dudes trying to figure out how and why they're there and trying to escape. Even the actual saw part they really don't show too much. I think its probably Saw 3 and forward that are the more brutal ones. Or maybe I'm just desensitized! Who knows!

Ever since the director's cut came out, you can't find the theatrical cut of Nightbreed.

Love at First Bite is a fun movie. I enjoyed the twist of Dracula coming to America to chase a ravishingly beautiful model, and instead of her being a damsel on the run from his predations, she's a lush and a slut who lets him bite on the first date.

It was really good for the time. Still prefer the first one out of the series though. It was the creepiest imho. And I still think they should have closed the series with 3, because the movies just got more ridiculous with each entry after it.
>>
>>214256988
Not sure about theatrical, but there's a "sensical cut" on archive.org
https://archive.org/details/night-breed-1990-the-sensical-cut-v-4.4-remastered
>>
>>214257194
I saw that (haven't watched it though), but that's a 3 hour cut with a whole bunch of extra footage in it. I want to see the original cut that bombed in theatres and doomed Clive's film career. It's been wiped off the internet
>>
>>214257153
I think 2 had the creepiest, most sinister Freddy, but the movie itself is brought down by the gay "subtext" and not having the dream kills that all the other movies have. I do enjoy all the movies, but it doesn't get really bad until Freddy's Dead for me. Dream Master has some of the best effects with the roach kill, Freddy's best death scene, and even Alice flying into the movie screen was pretty unique.

Watched Tenebrae again and I noticed Neal has an obvious superpower to turn invisible when he's about to kill. He kills the transexual in public daylight with tons of people around, he kills his agent in public with tons of daylight, and he kills the switchblade killer right in front of the detective and the detective somehow doesn't see him. Is this a supernatural element to his character?
>>

I could see it being extreme in 2005, especially when most people's only real experience with gore was probably the Saw franchise. but as someone who is watching it for the first time in 2025 and has already seen heaps of gory films, it's really not that bad. maybe the 2nd one focuses more on the gore and torture, but it's really only the middle third of this film that does and a lot of it is played much more comedic than serious
>>214255463
I'd definitely say give it a shot. if you don't like gore at all there are still a few scenes that might make you squeamish, but the first third of the film is just like watching Eurotrip or something with a little sense of dread because you know you are watching Hostel and the last third is more of a thriller than anything

Look at that, it's time for my pointless & brief thoughts on what I just watched:

>Last Straw
It's okay, definitely watchable. The main girl is a total cunt, so you never cheer for her, but the villain(s) are also retarded so you're not invested in any character. It's worth a watch.
>Shiver Me Timbers
How is this real? Fucking how is this actually a movie? This is a bad movie, but it's so amazing that everyone should watch it. The acting is bad and most/all are Scottish so they're doing American accents. The problem is it's very obvious to the point that the heroine's speech is very stilted and one of the guy's clearly breaks the accent at times. The Asian girl seems to be doing a shitty American-Asian caricature. Popeye gets mutated from an old man into a jacked dude, but his face & pipe are 100% CGI to the most ridiculous degree. The entire ending final battle is done with PS3-tier graphics, and it's mesmerizingly retarded. It's set in 1986, so there's a ton of 80s movie references just to really bludgeon it into your head. An entire death sequence is nothing but a long poop/fart joke. TCM & Evil Dead both get homages. Just fucking watch this movie and be in absolute awe of what you have just witnessed.
>>

Ya The Adam’s was kept alive pretty well after the movies. The live action kids TV series wasn’t too bad and mostly faithful to the movies (not so much the original series). Then later it got a cartoon and a CG movie. I think most generations know about it in one form or another funnily enough.

Heart Eyes was actually terrible. It tries to be like a Scream horror version of romcoms, but none of the jokes or gags are any good. “Haha look how silly and cliche we are” stops being funny after every scene in the movie is that. Nothing redeeming. Hard pass. Don’t let girls trick you into watching it. They don’t have taste.

It's because in England public schools made gents (imagine the same kids are prep school kids in the US). It's like setting your movie about fragging the wimp in West Point around repeated choruses of the honour code; the school system was supposed to have made them moral enough to get into professions like the secret service or trusted not to order a massacre. Finding out they're seething bullies the second they're not supervised betrays the image all the uniform and conduct codes were supposed to represent.

Horror Script Pitch:
Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but instead people are replace with indians. The people who notice are canceled and thrown in jail for hate speech like in England. The final scene is the protagonist wakes up next to his pajeeta wife replacement then goes to the bathroom and starts painting his face brown and practicing his indian accent repeating “good morning sir” over and over as a single tear rolls down his eye. He is the last bloody basterd left.

Why the fuck is twin peaks so unsettling?? Just these fucking scenes where the dude is just sitting there and the girl is spouting random inhumane gibberish at him is way more creepy than a lot of junk I’ve seen. I liked the movie and finally gave the series a shot. But I’ve never seen anything else by him. The series definitely has some cool creepy moments too though. I feel like it’s impossible to describe why it’s cool. The whole thing is a fucking fever dream. Is there anything else this weird? Do you guys like it?

It spreads too so if you see anything mentioning new wave you're probably getting something similarly weirdly comedic and creepy.

I saw the twin peaks movie years back at some independent theater showing and ya that alone was sort of enough for me haha. That said having now seen the TV series…. the movie doesn’t really make any MORE sense than it did then haha.
>>
>>214274694
YSK Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and Inland Empire are all technically part of a trilogy. They don't have anything to do with each other except taking place in Los Angeles. Recommended viewing order is the release order.
>>
>>214274023
Part of the magic in Lynch’s horror elements is the fact that he never set out to make a 100% horror movie. He had a way of taking “normal” situations and contrasting them with horror. It’s like when you have a simple dream and it abruptly turns into a nightmare. Even once things go back to normal there’s a lingering sense of dread because you don’t feel in control. Most horror movies make it very clear what you’re getting into just by looking at the cover so the feeling of dread isn’t as impactful.
>>

>>
Is Scream Queens worth watching? I need more Emma in my life
>>
>>214274694
For me Inland Empire is the unsurpassed masterpiece because it is so punishing . It's like Lynch pushing his own work into parody and then beyond it to find something new.
I get why people aren't into it though. It should really be the last film of his you watch. It's the secret final boss unlock.

That's a great insight. Lynch sets up these scenarios where the tension is visually and audiowise cranked to the max but you have no idea where it's headed. That part in lost highway where he's wandering his house in the dark. Is he going to see his wife cheating on him? A demon? An intruder? An angel? Is something gonna jump out or is this just what the next 20 minutes of the from are gonna be like??

This is technically horror, so I'll ask here. I remember watching a short film on Youtube a while back wherein the most popular videogame was a VR simulation where you play a soldier fighting nondescript aliens/bad guys, but it turns out the players were actually remotely controlling drone soldiers and committing war crimes. The main character's drone got hacked and he could see what was really happening and it ended in the middle of his freak out with a soldier drone coming into his apartment or whatever. Also of note, the VR was accessed by wearing a ring and the people playing the "game" all looked doped out. Does anyone know what this was called?

Favorite MYSTERY movies? Need absolute mind-fucking, unexplainable mystery endings. I want to be edged to the brink of oblivion, so hard that I blow my load in the middle of the night screaming EUREKA as I wake from my dream state, nut dripping down my leg from the sheer nirvana of discovering what I thought was the answer, only to wake up the next morning depressed knowing that I am nowhere close.
