Has your ISP ever mail you a notice telling you to cut the shit for being a pirate (complete with a record of the torrent you downloaded) ? It hasn’t happened to me in like a decade. Do they still do it?
>>
>>214263164
Never happened to me
>>
>>214263164
I got two last year. I'm going to need a VPN if I want to pirate again. They only care about Netflix stuff and big hollywood movies. I got nipped for the rifftrax version of some MCU movie and I Think You Should Leave.
They don't give a fuck about all the old movies and shows and dozens of audiobooks and Ebooks I took. Just anything that might justifiably make someone money.

Yeah, its happened to me once or twice about four years ago for mainstream video games. Hasn't happened ever since I got a VPN. Its just a flag attached to certain files by the publisher/company that sends a complaint to your internet service provider who may or may not bitch at you about it. A VPN completely circumvents it.
>>

Of course between the phone line, high speed internet and the premium platinum cable package I pay like $350/mo. to them. I'm just looking for a reason to quit. I wonder if they'd really lose me as a customer from some legal complaint about piracy.
For that kind of money they should really look the other way.

And those are like $10 a month, right? It slows your shit down and you really only keep it on WHILE downloading, right? I forget how it works. I'll get the VPN I just don't want to make a mistake. I've got the two strikes already.
I'm not so sure there are other options in my area if they get cocky and suspend me. I can't imagine running all my shit through a cell phone, but I know people do that.
>>
>>214263279
This is going to make me sound like a shill, but I've genuinely not noticed any slowdown at all (or any other notable problems) with Proton VPN. Its about $12 a month? 9.99 euro whatever that converts to.
>>
>>214263300
I really can't imagine one vpn is that different from another
>>
>>214263361
You'd be surprised. I found atleast 5 that wouldn't let me torrent. Most of the ones shilled by e-celebs have some issues pertaining to torrenting (Nord, SurfShark, Express) all have torrenting issues. Do research before picking one.
>>
>>214263404
but the one you mentioned in >>214263300 is ok?
>>
>>214263428
OK as in you can torrent with it.
>>
>>214263436
yeah thats what i meany. what the downside(s) (if any)?
>also downsides vpns in general
>>
>>214263469
So far here are the cons I've noticed
>Doing multiple highly intensive things can cause you to have to disconnect, reset your router and reconnect (Torrenting and livestreaming and, direct downloading at the same time)
>Occasional slowdown (Quite rare, noticed maybe once a month)
>Can't post on 4chan with a VPN active
Thats about it.
>>
I have used IPvanish for several years now. No problems really. If you go this route, make sure there is a setting to disconnect the internet if the VPN connection fails. Another benefit I have noticed when just letting the VPN run is a true increase in privacy. For example, my wife uses facebook and my internet searches for product will trigger ads in her facebook feed for that product Separate laptops, same wlan. With VPN, that shit ceases.
>>
>>214263505
I thought you could use a VPN with a pass.
>>
>>214263164
The one and only time I got a cease and desist letter was for torrenting all of Reno 911 in like 2014. I l just didn't download anything for a week and went right back to it after and nothing else ever happened
>>
>>214263164
No i don't download anything.
>>
>>214263505
How does 4chan detect a VPN? Its not like this site is known for its sophisticated code, especially since it got hacked. And why do they care? I mean so many of the boards are so cluttered with so much retarded and off-topic shit, the jannies are so erratic and so inconsistent, that I fail to understand why stopping a VPN from posting would matter.
>>
>>214263164
Yeah I got one a few years ago when I was pirating the last season of Better Call Saul as it was airing. My cable provider dropped AMC and I wasn't about to pay for their streaming service. Whether anything actually would come of it if I kept doing it or if it's just an empty threat is the real question, but as others have said, just get a VPN, it's way cheaper than having a dozen streaming services
>>
>>214266475
Pretty sure they just blacklist any IP that's known to be associated with a VPN service. I assume there's a list or repository somewhere. You can browse but you can't post when on VPN
>>
>>214266475
they want your data
everyone wants your data to add it to a list of information of other users and make market studies.
>>
Had my stuff cut off years ago for a bit til I had to call em to get it back. I went to doing direct downloads and stream sites like Fmovies.
>>
I got a blackmail letter for downloading porn like a year ago but it was from some mafia law firm, not ISP
>>
>>214263164
I got a letter from my ISP a few years ago. My wife was freaking out that we were going to be sent to prison over it lol

I changed my VPN settings to always stay connected even if the VPN client closes, so I haven't gotten any warnings since then.
