Its just a flag attached to certain files by the publisher/company that sends a complaint to your internet service provider who may or may not bitch at you about it. A VPN completely circumvents it.

I have used IPvanish for several years now. No problems really. If you go this route, make sure there is a setting to disconnect the internet if the VPN connection fails. Another benefit I have noticed when just letting the VPN run is a true increase in privacy. For example, my wife uses facebook and my internet searches for product will trigger ads in her facebook feed for that product Separate laptops, same wlan. With VPN, that shit ceases.

My cable provider dropped AMC and I wasn't about to pay for their streaming service. Whether anything actually would come of it if I kept doing it or if it's just an empty threat is the real question, but as others have said, just get a VPN, it's way cheaper than having a dozen streaming services
