This is one of the best films of the 21st century, and certainly Tarantino's finest work.
>>

idk i kindadidn't like it and then at the very end I realized Tarantino's making fun of his fans so, like, cool, but I don't feel like rewatching it with this "correct" perspective

Not to sound pretentious but art is even better when you know what the artist is doing.
>>
Scenes get bogged down on studio lots a little too much. Also the ending was stupid, making a historical playground was novel in 2009, but not so much the third time around.

Haven't seen it, but I'm very familiar with the Manson Family so I don't want to watch some gay fanfic about Spahn Ranch. Read CHAOS by Tom O'Niell.
>>
True
>>
>>214269681
Tom O'Niell has been BTFO by Nikolas Schreck. Chaos is way too sensational to be true.
>>
Kind of the last movie, like Blindsight was the last sci-fi novel
>>
>>214269731
He has evidence to back up what he wrote. Nikolas Shreck looks like a faggot.
>>
I liked Hateful Eight more but OUATIH is a close second.
>>
>>214269162
I honestly don't "get" ouatih and usually I love Tarantino's films
>>
>>214269162
I don't know how someone watches this and denies that Tarantino is like a master at film making, it is truly something special that just envelops you as you watch it, it's like magical how good it is at pulling you into its world.

The more I watch of it, the more I like it. It's top 3 Tarantino for me.
>>
>>214269312
I liked his friendship with his stunt double and how the stunt dou le knew to go along with it.
>>
>>214269162
Didn't love it when it came out but now it's my second favorite Tarantino (i'm partial to basterds), it gets better with each rewatch. Should've been his last movie, you can tell even he thinks there's no way he's gonna surpass it.
>>
>>214269882
It's a love letter to film and an escapism fantasy for a tragedy.
>>
>>214269800
He actually just spends a good deal of the book elaborating on known government programs and assassinating the original Bugliosi narrative (which is fine), then makes the most tenuous link between them and Manson, marrying it to the most generic MK Ultra narrative that's been around for ages without actually committing to naming anyone alive. He has almost no experience with Manson himself unlike Schreck who was in contact with him for decades. O'Neill is most likely a hack, especially when you realize how much of the book relies on him personally contextualizing people turning him away as evidence of a coverup.
>>
>>214270087
reminder Manson did nothing wrong. His crazy talk about "you made me, maaan" is him just saying that the public can't deal with the fact two normal kids did a horrific murder so they had to pretend he was a cult leader mastermind when it was probably a drug deal gone wrong (or Polanski was behind it)
>>
I didn't like any film by Tarantino between Reservoir Dogs and OUATIH except for Django. OUATIH is supremely comfy, thematically varied, visually interesting and a perfect mixture of upbeat and melancholy imo. And yeah, I enjoyed watching Cliff Booth smash hippy skulls.
>>
>>214269904
I wouldn't deny Tarantino is a master, I'm just too stupid to really understand what theme he's going with. Like, I can watch Reservoir Dogs, or Pulp Fiction, or Jackie Brown but it never really clicks for me beyond the immediate story being told. The "what am I supposed to take away from this" part always vexes me
>>
the movie is just too damn comfy, i love how you can rewatch it over and over again. Tarantino makes this as his version of a hangout movie, where you just want to see the characters hang and talk shit. Scenes like them watching the tv episode or watching cliff at home feeding the dog or the discussions between cliff and rick while the former drives the later is incredible.
>>
>>214270222
His theme is that he drapes the trappings of things he liked growing up over himself and his works. I don't hold it against him because he can spin it well, but it can make the second half of his career tiresome.
>>
>>214270222
The truth us, unless you're an autistic cinefile, you'll never REALLY appreciate his work. This is coming from someone who ISN'T one. You have to appreciate his work for what it is.

It's like the old Looney Tunes referencing old cinema. You might not get the reference, but you know it's a reference to something. That's basically Tarantino's work. He gives new life to old things he used to love, even when he knows the audience probably won't understand is, simply because he love it
>>
Why doesn't he just make a movie based on someone else's script. It's just a waste of film.
>>
It's his 3rd best. Better than Pulp Fiction, but still inferior to Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs.
>>
Agreed, probably the last great film I saw in theaters

>>
>>214269904
Robbie is magical in it. Tate wasn't never this romantically perfect. It's just a fantasy.
>>
>>214269162
Damien Lewis would've stolen the movie if his screen time was longer. He plays McQueen as a person, not just resemblance.
>>
>>214270222
If you always go into a movie thinking you should take something away that's meaningful or impactful to the human psyche; you might be watching movies for the wrong reason. Tarantino admittedly makes movies for himself, he just wants to make movies he can enjoy and watch because he thinks that's cool. When you take that into account, take what inspires him, understand he's autistic and loves to insert things he has seen or saw. Then you might start to understand his movies a bit more.

Take Tommy from Kill Bill. Bill says "I like his hair.". Well you can look at DePalma's Carrie and the character Tommy who has fantastic hair in the movie. Tarantino loves DePalma. Earl McGraw says Beatrix looks like a "blood splattered angel", well so does Carrie after getting doused in blood. And then look at Tommy, with that hair. You can almost hear Tarantino saying "I like his hair" about Tommy. The dude is a dork. And he's great.
>>
>>214271013
I guess I should clarify and maybe I am just a retard, I don't mean to say that I'm looking for some transcendent life lesson, or looking to shape myself around a films message, but is Tarantino really only trying to say "I saw a bunch of movies that has these cool shots and I wanted to make my own movie that does that too?" And the audience isn't supposed to look for a greater statement? If so then fine, and I guess I just needed someone to say it out loud
>>
>>214269162
I genuinely don't understand why Tarantino made fun of Bruce Lee in this movie.
Bruce was full of himself but he was still a legend and a genuine martial artist.
That thing is that every other celebrity cameo is portrait as a cool dude except Bruce.
So, what is Tarantino's problem with Bruce Lee?

Why did Tarantino make fun of Bruce Lee? It's bizarre considering that he loves shlock and old b-movie stars from the past. I am not asian by the way, I really thought it was a strange choice for someone like him to do that.
>>

It has that gay effeminate Asian verbal cadence.
>>
It's a great movie but the humiliation ritual of Bruce Lee was distatesful.

>See, now we're about to see a Trunk Shot, a staple of Quentin's and my personal favorite! Every single one of his movie includes one!
And there is no trunk shot you fucking nerd go get a new hobby
>>
>>214271322
>dispell the popular notion that he was an actual badass who could fight.

The scene neither proves nor disproves that he could fight because the fight gets interrupted.
Also Brad throwing him into a car is not an honorary move in Martial Arts, nobody fucking does that in a consensual street fight.
>>
>>214271101
If you listen to his interviews he can start to take his fictional worlds a little too seriously, you'll hear him say "no, you don't get it, that's totally what Cliff Booth would do in that situation, THAT IS THE CLIFF BOOTH THING TO DO" a lot. He was actually viewing it as how a bout between Lee and Cliff Booth would go down, forgetting that that's not actually a real person.
>>
>>214271395
>Also Brad throwing him into a car is not an honorary move in Martial Arts, nobody fucking does that in a consensual street fight.
Boy, it's bad enough that you're terrified of electric fans, but now car doors too?

>Also Brad throwing him into a car is not an honorary move in Martial Arts, nobody fucking does that in a consensual street fight.
>throwing your opponent isn't a martial arts move
>>
>>214271413
But why humiliate Bruce?
He could have chose Chuck Norris or some other B-Movie martial artist.

The scene itself is not bad,
but it did not have to be Bruce.
Everyone respects Bruce Lee, maybe you are a zoomer and don't get it but he was the most famous action movie star for a while.
>>
>>214271522
because the jews have mindbroken Tarantino. His wife is israeli.
Jews hate asians.
Once greater israel has been created, they will try to sneak themselves into China and Japan.
>>
the movie sucked because pitt didn't kill then rape bruce lee in that order. and then say "any kikes want a turn?" after he was finished with the rape
>>
>>214271522
QT heard from stunt men of the time that Bruce was an asshole behind the scenes who wouldn't pull his punches/kicks and was actually hitting them, knowing they wouldn't/couldn't hit him back without losing their jobs.
>>
>>214271522
Lee is more in line with his interests, Norris is only in schlock. He may not have inferred that everyone would think it's character assassination, as Lee shows up later in a wholesome scene with Tate.
>>
>>214271635
it was character assasination. The scene later on can't fix it.
Tatantino killed the legacy of Bruce Lee with that scene, it is distasteful. Bruce deserves all the respect because he was one of the actors who pushed martial arts films to a new level and also made that genre popular in the western world.
It doesn't matter if he could actually fight or if he was an asshole, what matters is that in this movie Tarantino was paying respect and homage to the greats of Hollywood with the exception of Bruce Lee.
>>
>>214269162
Agreed, also the last white people movie before Geroge Floyd ended that forever
>>
>>214269162
good movie but Tarantino can suck ass for making a fool out of Bruce Lee.
Bruce Lee was a true fighter, he has been is many gang fights in the streets before he became a star. It's not a myth, he was the real deal, my grandfather was one of his students in his class and he would always tell us how Bruce had the most powerful punch a human could produce.
>>
>>214271522
>getting knocked down in a fight is being """"humiliated""""
the overreaction to this scene is ridiculous
>>
>>214271748
Assassination would've been him losing the bout, I think from Tarantino's perspective, having him get up immediately after being thrown like that is respecting his resilience in a fight somewhat. He may also just have expected that since he had Kill Bill rely so heavily on a Bruce Lee image that his audience would know he's just playing around with his idols. However /tv/ is very racially motivated and will only construe it one way.

Kill yourself Jew
>>
>>214271891
as I said I grew up with Bruce Lee's movies, they are kino.
Tatantino is a piece of shit.
He is the one full of himself.

Also in this scene, Bruce claims he could beat the shit out of Mohammed Ali ( cassius clay) but this shows Tarantino is a piece of shit
because there is literally an interview with Bruce where says he would have no chance against Ali.
So why would Tarantino make this shit up about Bruce.
It's jewish humiliation ritual.

Bruce Lee was murdered by the jews,
they also murdered his son
because hollywood jews do not want to see asians in their industry, because asians are not submissive and have their own strong culture.
>>
>>214271522
"Who would win in a fight Muhammed Ali or Bruce Lee" has been a meme for decades. That discussion is what starts the scene to begin with
>>
>>214272104
There is a real interview with Bruce Lee being asked this question and Bruce says Ali would win.
He was not an asshole. He respected other fighters. The character in the movie is a parody of Bruce Lee.
>>
If Bruce Lee were alive, which he is, he would be ashamed of his crybaby so-called "fans"
>>
if Bruce Lee and Ali were the same size and weightclass, Bruce would 100% win.
Ali was only good with his fist but Bruce also was very advanced with leg kicks.
>>
>>214271877
Bruce isn't even angry about it, he gets up and acts pleased that he has found a worthy opponent. But god forbid the chinese messiah be shown having any weakness at all, he needs to be like steven seagal and shown as completely untouchable at all time
>>
>>214272092
His only good movie is Fist of Fury. There were at least a dozen better martial arts stars in the 70s. Just because you had a Bruce Lee lunchbox when you were 7 doesn't make him some kung fu god
>>
>>214272353

>>
The real Bruce Lee would never throw a flying kick as his first move in a street fight.
This movie was a humiliation ritual.
Jews seem to really hate it when asians or blacks become huge stars, they killed Bruce and Michael Jackson and then humiliated them on tv.

Tarantula's best by a country mile

His best OST, his best cast, seemingly infinite HW references, his best period piece, best camera edits, best mountain out of a mole hill script, best vibes.

I was turned off initially by the revisionist history thing, but it works to his favor of highlighting the blood on the tip of a blade, only to clean to a shine by the conclusion. Hollywood pictures duh never tell the whole truth of anything depicted, with that said the meta levels of this film are masterclass

Yes, I don't doubt that at all, but the point still stands people have for a long time argued for Bruce even having a shot, which certainly isn't the case. Movies are a visual medium and there is absolutely 0 issue with it being displayed as it was. Should the Bruce stand-in have looked at the camera and said 'well folks actually I am on record saying this isn't the case so ignore the hypothetical leading to this and my cock response.'

The fight between him and Cliff wasn't even finished anyways so you can still cope that he might of done something cool.

I think it's hilarious as well that you have repeatedly stated to not being Asian in your replies without prompting. 'Asians and blacks are kept down by Hollywood'
please.
