Bloodlines was a fluke. The game was good in spite of the setting, not because of the setting.
Nothing good outside of that game has come from the setting. I read quite a lot of the lore and it's ass. The game was fairly grounded. The vampires had super strength and immortality and they are the apex predators but they are still afraid of werewolves who are really big and scary so even vampires have something to be afraid of.
Then you read the lore and the entire world is overrun by magicians and thousands of special snowflake monster clans who are a billion times stronger than a vampire and makes you wonder how vampires can even survive or claim domain over entire cities.
And then you read about older vampires and they are complete Mary Sues. You have faggot vampires who single handedly control an entire continent, like Baba Yaga is a vampire who controls all of Russia alone, or some shit like that. And then even older vampires are worse than that. Cain is basically god. God cursed Cain by giving him every super power in the world and he can bend reality and time travel and walk in the sun, not only is he immortal but if you were to kill him then god would bring him back to life.

It's all so retarded.
The retarded lore reminds me of True Blood, but it's way worse. At least in True Blood they had a more sane power system for vampires. How old you are determines your power, not which generation you are so the first vampire wasn't born strong, it took them thousands of years to become as powerful as they are now.
If you use the Vampire the Masquerade setting, you can never bring Cain in the story or explore the origins of vampires. If even a fifth generation vampire shows up in the story, it's over, their powers are too strong for you to have a story without a 5000 year old guy showing up and mind wiping everyone and rewriting reality.

World of Darkness isn't really meant to be some living setting where you're using different monster books as supplements like a DnD game where one player has a prestige class from X while another has one from Y.

What's special and what I liked initially is that there is an attempt at establishing deeper lore and keeping it consistent.
The clans are obviously just different movie interpretations of vampires, but what other setting puts them all together and creates a cohesive narrative explaining the differences between these different takes of vampires?
All vampire settings I've seen have just vampires. This setting puts all these vampires into one package and all of them serve a role. I like that you have these upper class Dracula vampires and then in the sewers they have Nosferatu ugly vampires. That kind of stuff is interesting to me and that's what made Bloodlines interesting. The first time you play you don't know what a Malkavian is so Theresa/Jeanette reveal is a surprise and when you run into a new vampire you have to think about what kind of clan they might be and what you can expect from them. Like when you first run into Beckett you may think he is a werewolf.
I like that not every vampire can do blood magic or turn into a beast. In the game you had to research these clans and figure out what their deal is.

This kind of stuff way more interesting that something like True Blood where every vampire just moves fast and they are strong.
