The Village = The Sixth Sense > Signs > Unbreakable >>>>>>> ∞ everything else
>>
M Night Shamma llamma ding dong

I was the one who coined the name Shymalama Ding Dong. I commented it first on reddit many many years ago. Now the odd tranny says it.
>>
>>214287132
I liked The Village. Seriously.

My favorite is Split, excellent movie.
>>214287224
I hate how dimwits give Shama shit for this. He made completely adequate adaptation of 5/10 material.
>>

The Village was peak Shymalan. Every film he makes he knows people will be expecting "Le epic tweest" and he anticipated that knowing that after the tweest comes the audience will be sitting there all smug thinking "Ah yes, that was the tweest, honestly I expected it to be something like that, how trite." Then BAM! He follows it up with another better tweest when they weren't expecting it.

It was a shame plebian critics were too caught up with their anger at being "fooled" to see the wonderful contouring trick he pulled off.

Shyama tweesting himself into delicious pretzel is my favorite dish.

>actually good movies
Sixth sense
Signs
The village
Glass
Split

>maybe bad writing/directing, but still fun to watch
Trap
Old
Stuart Little
Unbreakable
Knock at the Cabin
Devil

>cringe kino, the actual best of the best
The Visit
The Happening
The Last Airbender

>actually bad movies that aren't even fun to hate watch
Lady in the Water
After Earth
>>
>>214287132
In terms of being an actually good film, he only really has 2:
Sixth Sense > Unbreakable >>>> Signs >>> Split = The Visit > Trap > Knock at the Cabin > The Village > The Happening > Old > Lady in the Water > Glass > The Last Airbender > After Earth
But in terms of sheer entertainment, pretty much all of his films are great even if they are batshit retarded, except After Earth which is just mostly boring.

>>actually bad movies that aren't even fun to hate watch
>Lady in the Water
I honestly think Lady in the Water is his best cringe kino, the choice to cast himself as the tortured writer and killing the critic is so incredibly self serving it makes my jaw drop. That film is such an unbelievable fucking mess and I love it.

He did so well with the Sixth Sense twist, that it's hindered his entire career. Now he feels like every movie has to have a twist.

He needs to drop the gimmick, and just write whatever the fuck he wants to. If the audience is expecting a twist, it isn't really a twist anymore
>>
>>214289650
Anon, his past 4 films or so haven't had a twist.
>>
>>214289691
Isn't that a twist by itself?
>>
>>214289650
Honestly he hasn't really had that many twists maybe lady in the water.
>happening
Not really a twist, plants causing the murders was proposed pretty early
>airbender
No twist
>the visit
Maybe a bit of a twist, but it's pretty obvious something is wrong with the "grandparents"\
>old
no twist
>knock at the cabin
no twist
>trap
no twist

I haven't seen the rest of the movies, so maybe they have twists (devil, after earth, glass, split)

>split
He's actually got superpowers I guess?
>after earth
It's in the fucking title but isn't it only said like half way through that the planet they are on is Earth, and isn't that the "twist"? I seem to remember it being sort of a reveal, but I might be making that up. The film is so fucking forgettable.
>glass
The organisation that is trying to "help" the superpowered is actually trying to suppress them.
Never seen Devil, and he didn't direct it so I don't really care. All 3 of those "twists" are kind of thin.

He really is. He always does his own thing and while it doesn't always work, it sure as hell feels more refreshing than anything the big studios are putting out these days.
>>
>>214292072
It's amazing that the man accidentally made 1.5 good films, coasts on that for the rest of his life, exclusively makes garbage, and yet I'm always excited to see a new film of his.

They all suck ass but I liked Old for peak Thomasin McKenzie
