There is no form of transport that offers a better experience than long distance trains.

It cannot be beat. High speed, no bothering with security, great views. Just get in and out.
It's the closest thing we have to teleportation machines.

So what's the best way to watch the classic TG episodes? Is the BBC iPlayer version cucked?

Ah yes, free to go... only where the road goes.
>>
>>214291580
When you're deprived of the chance of ever owning property, much less a car that isn't a god damn plastic shitbox ecological gocart for lobotomites, and you continue down the path that led you there because you're a brainless cultist yourself, the only solution is to drag down everyone else to your level.
>>
>>214291365
the fun of driving depends on how many other people you have to share the road with.
>>
I'm heavily into cars as a hobby but going to Japan and zooming around on the trains was fun. You could hop on a train and nap and wake up on the other side of the country and walk around without having to worry about where to park or getting back to your car or someone fucking with your car. Obviously there were downsides but as a bumpkin it was a neat experience.

I wouldn't dare ride the trains in America again though.

every time

Look, you just have to understand that the rest of the world doesn't have your problems. The most we have to deal with is a rare ethnic being anti-social, the occasional mentally ill person being loud or the odd rowdy teenager playing music on their phone. I'm truly sorry you have fucking apes stabbing people at random and mugging their way down trainlines, but you have to stop projecting this insecurity on the rest of us.

Tell that to being stuck in Istanbul's traffic on TEM for 2 hours in the evening. Makes me want to kill myself.

They always set it up to be a tight race (aka give the car a better chance). Most people would take a plane/train and a taxi at either end, but that's not allowed in their rules because le car has to win. Then Clarkson says "see the car beats all public transport lol" and the audience claps.

The plane vs Veyron race was so blatantly faked with May delaying the flight checks so long that he couldn't fly all the way to England.
>>
>>214291145
Trains have linear destinations, cars have quadratic destinations. They aren't even in the same league. They are basically a worse version of a plane.
>>
>>214291183
You've just never been on efficient roads and drives.

Planes are vastly inferior to trains. You're probably some fat amerijew that never traveled to Japan.
>>
>>214296142
Flight delays are real, but making James obviously take too long with his preflight checks so he couldn't fly over the channel was blatant. They do that shit all the time to make sure the car comes close or wins. I know it's a car show but that kind of scripting is lame.

Sorry anon, but a passenger train you're willing to spend $200 on is not just vastly cheaper than renting a Bugatti Veyron... it's more comfortable, too.
>>
>>214289255
Cars are goated when you've got open roads, no traffic and ample parking everywhere.
They're fucking awful in practice when at least 2 of those criteria arent filled on any given day.
>>
>>214296225
Your one country on Earth where trains do exceptionally well due to how incredibly packed it is doesn't really prove your point about the rest of the world. How about trains in Mexico, India, China, Sudan, or any other high urban density land? How about how trains perform in massive countries like Russia, Canada, U.S? Japan is the exception because they are bug lifestyles.
>>
>>214289494
I enjoyed my Alaska cruise trip, yeah. 5 day vacation, traveling thousands of miles, and getting to spend time with my family in foreign areas and enjoy buffet meals of whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

I recommend cruises to people who can afford them; they're nice! (Protip; don't spend money on the boat. Everything you need is free, they just want soooooo much more from you... and they usually get it, from morons.)

Now, now, don't go talking like that. Metropolitan public transport is verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry erratic in quality... and usually leaning towards the "I regret this ride" side.
>>
Driving yourself more than 200 miles is simply not comfortable. You have to pay attention the entire time and sit in the exact same position. Planes are faster, trains are more comfortable. There's some downsides to both but the benefits outweigh them.
>>
>>214296392
>How about trains in China
Top tier as well. The reason why their outer provinces got integrated and why their factories continued having steady stream of workers, without having the need to import people. Imagine American HSR network connecting the poor Appalachia to the Rust Belt factories. You'd reindustrialize in less than 20 years.

>How about how trains perform in massive countries like Russia
Well Russia is a special case. Sure it's a big country but only the European part is populated. You don't need to travel to Siberia all that often.

Russian metros are quite good though. People who shill HSR also shill metros.
