Genuinely what the fuck were they thinking with this storyline, it feels so out of place from the rest of the show
>>214295472The whole series makes fun of and pays homage to gangster films so why not put this in there at least for the cast/crew to laugh at? And the gang members were always trying to find new avenues to scam/grift and money launder, this is a way better storyline than "a hit is a hit" with an annoying kevetching old Jew and some suave nigger. Plus it lays the foundation for Tony killing Christopher later on.
>>214295472It’s a statement on all the mobsters who cashed out and made big bucks by selling books and life rights to jewish Hollywood executives
It was better than 'tony bangs chrissy's gf' for the 6th time
>>214295472This and Vito's gay story kinda dragged down Season 6 for me, but it's still probably the best season
>>214295472It's meant to set up the conflict between Tony and Chris in the season
>>214295516Wow you hate the gay vito stuff, that's some of the best shit in the entire series, fuck you.
>>214295589There were some interesting elements in it but overall it just felt really underwhelming for some reason
>>214295628
>>214295472It's a vehicle to show the growing alienation between Tony and Christopher.
>its a Massive Genius episode
>>214295472The only reason Tony allowed the piece of shit movie to be made was because Christopher sacrificed Adriana and nagged Tony enough for him to allow it. When Tony found out that the mob boss in the movie was mocking him and copying his mannerisms, it was a brutal "Fuck you" from Chrissie. The movie feels out of place because of the shitty acting and how massive the screening was for being a shitty straight to home video slasher.
>>214295472The show generally is quite grounded and often restricted to mundane daily life stuff so yes, one of the characters successfully making a professional film felt a bit weird
>>214295728This, the film's ridiculously horrible quality just didn't make it feel believable and it broke the immersion
>>214295500The foundation was already there. Episode 1 the tension of an uncle who wants to kill his nephew is installed via Junior, only for Tony to end up being the biggest threat to his own nephew Christopher.
>>214295472how could she cheat on walt like that....
>>214295628Mainly because they try to make Tony a shit lib about it where he's "okay with it", to reflect the writers views and protest W Bush. It is unnatural and hamfisted for Tony
>>214295728I never got the feeling that that Chrissy ever intended that as an intentional "fuck you". Tony himself didn't even think that, he enjoyed the movie. What i got is that Carmela is a nosy bitch and had to rub it in Tony's face and turn him against Chris.
>>214295472Christopher wanting to become a filmmaker was set up all the way back in season 1 so I guess this is sort of a payoff to that
>>214295903Midwit takeThey showed that Tony's greed trumps politics
>>214295589this was probably one of the funniest things i've seen in a "serious" sitcom. also the gay fireman arc was hilarious, because fag shit is kind of funny in general
>>214295707The highs of the Sopranos are really high but man the lows are super low. Shows are Breaking Bad maybe don't reach the same highs but they are at least more consistent quality
>>214295961I agree with that, I think it was subconscious for Chris
>>214295767>the film's ridiculously horrible quality just didn't make it feel believableIt's a movie produced by goombas, what'd you expect? If anything, the movie sucking is should help your immersion, as if that movie was made irl, it would suck.
>>214296116*shows like
>>214296124But still it didn't feel real. It felt so much like a fake movie made for a movie instead of being a believable bad film
>>214296116i got to get my annual rewatch in but soprano's highs are usually subtle character moments, while breaking bads' are usually more overt and involve the plot moving. tony was on a dock in one of the later seasons and it was just him, but i was on the edge of my seat because i thought he was about to snap and go murder pussy or something
>>214296172>It felt so much like a fake movie made for a movie instead of being a believable bad filmkind of just splitting hairs at this point.
>>214296116>>214295707Honestly you fags need to get the fuck over it, this episode is hilarious, funnier than Pine Barrens
>>214296188>breaking bads' are usually more overt and involve the plot moving.Partially, but not necessarily true. The big overt plot moving moments are most impactful on the first watch. On rewatches of breaking bad you also notice subtle character moments as well but I also personally appreciate the show more from a technical standpoint. I can really tell the show was made by people that loved filmmaking
>>214295472Season 6 had a lot of whacky and weird ideas
>>214296106100% same w/ me, this shit was hilarious.OHHHHHHHHH AIDS NOBODY HAS AIDS
>>214296258>objectively bad episode is le good
>>214296519S6 E1 is the probably the best episode of television ever>Massive Genius>Ben Kingsleyapart from that there aren't really any remarkable low points, I don't know what anon meant by that, it's remarkably consistent.
>>214296894>S6 E1Great episode but I think S6 E18 or S6 E21 is better
>>214296753>Classifying art as anything but subjective Don't breed
>>214296729
>>214295472I liked everything to do with Chris and Ade trying to get into show biz. I liked A Hit is A Hit, I liked D-Girl, I liked the Cleaver arcSeethe
>>214295961That’s the truth, Chris didn’t do it intentionally he just writes what he knows as do most writers. He never meant this to be Tony, all his life experience is from Tony that’s it
>>214297784Powerful
>>214295472It's funny how it looks today, but I remember watching it at the time, and it was crazy how much Saw and movies like it was popping then
>>214295707I forgot all about that, it didn't even lead to anything did it?
>>214295472I'm kind of impressed with how quickly he filmed it
>>214295903Tony is "okay with it" a lot of shit in the show, like when they found Vito is gay I remember him saying something like "times changed" trying to dismiss the whole thing. There is this inconsistence in him where half of the time he wants to do nothing but eat and play cards and the other half he goes into murder Mafia boss.
>>214296096Yeah Tony not jumping on the kill Vito train was in line with his character.
>>214296753>>objectively badYou shouldn't be using concepts you don't understand.
>>214296729>>214297840Problem here was the producers trying to show the gang was bad because their ignorance, those are typical lib values and not how people act irl, so they come off as a bunch of cavemen trying to understand a spaceship and it's comedy gold. They wanted to show mob violence against gay people but in the end delivered The Three Stooges goes to a Gay Barhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f77PLFRP3Ok
There's a 1970s British anthology horror film called Asylum, and its first story has the same premise as Cleaver: a chopped up body reanimating and seeking seeking revenge on its killer. I wonder if that's where they got the idea.
>>214295472Not really. That youtube mobster Michael Franchisealito produced a bunch of trash genre movies in the 80s with mob money.
>>214299708I actually looked them up, so we can gauge the quality and see if it's realistic or not.>Mausoleum>Savage Streets>Knights Of The CityI've seen two of them and Mausoleum was a typical bad 80's horror film, but Savage Streets was kino.
>>214295589>be gayngster>run away to small town >walk into restaurant >literal first person you interact with is now your gay firefighter love interestContrived.
>>214299797Back then people only watched rape revenge movies to see the rape scenes.
