Probably Diabel, and to a lesser extent Fando y Lis. Both 0/10.
There are a few which are straight up classics, like Caligula. Some others are pretty damn decent, like Zardoz. Some are just forgotten, underrated or overhated, like Jawbreaker.

I'm sorry, it's not an old time term for movies, but actually an old time black term* for movies. I actually think Spike might have been the first to use the term on film back in 86', but the idea of juke joints and using the term "joint" to refer to things in AAVE is much older, dating back even to slavery times (as far as I know).

>The police dismiss this lead, so King and Paul, both armed, track down Yung Felon's address themselves. King meets his wife and infant son. She tells him that Felon is an ex-convict and aspiring rapper who idolizes King. Believing he wants to sign Felon to his label, Felon's wife directs King to his recording studio, where he confronts Felon. In an impromptu rap battle, Felon explains that he saw King as a father figure and resorted to the kidnapping plot after being ignored by him for years.

It tries to be a mix of everything and concluded being nothing. The performances are pretty bad too. And this movie has Jeffrey Wright and Denzel. Did people forgot how to make movies?

>MacDougall and the producers found it convenient that the three of them walked together at the end of the film because interracial relationships were forbidden. Recent scholars and critics have praised the film for choosing to go against featuring an all-white cast, although still find great fault in the racial issues that it has, feeling that it rather makes the topics of race, integration, and nuclear war more divided—the opposite of what was intended by the producers and a major disappointment to audiences' expectations of seeing a fully fledged interracial couple on screen. The ending also caused confusion surrounding the message behind the platonic nature of Ralph, Sarah, and Ben, which then impacted the entire message of the film as well. Many critics have stated that the lack of a victor between Ralph and Ben, and thus a lack of a final couple, left an impression that was not only unrealistic in the post-apocalyptic sense but that also seemed as more of a mockery of the issues the film was trying to address.

Spike Lee on Set

While the director himself isn't explaining the exact meaning behind the term, he did reveal in a 2015 Atlantic interview that "A Spike Lee Joint" is '...really all the ingredients that I put into my film. Whatever film it is, whatever subject matter is. Whether it's a documentary or a narrative film. The connective tissue is that it's coming through me, but all the stories I feel are different.' The credit is a way to put his personal stamp on a project and ensure that even if the subjects are all different, the voice behind them is the same, down to the themes and style of camera work.

I've said this before but it's worth repeating: there's a difference between profundity and miserabilism, and perhaps the biggest problem filmgoers have is that critics and lesser minds can't dintinguish between the two. Satantango is the most obvious offender (though not the most egregious).

>Despite an unlimited budget from Columbia Pictures—Clouzot worked with three crews and 150 technicians—the shooting was beset by severe problems: everyone suffered from the record heat during July in the Cantal region; the main actor Serge Reggiani claimed to be ill (Jean-Louis Trintignant was asked to replace him); the artificial lake below the Garabit viaduct, an important part of the location, was about to be emptied by the local authorities; then Clouzot suffered a heart attack and was hospitalised in Saint-Flour. After three weeks, the film was abandoned.

so i just saw Baby of Macon and it fucking sucked
it was shat on for being "shocking" but it really is not, but neither the shock or the lack of it are the problem
the film takes place in like 3 setpieces that all look the fucking same, the visuals are some of Greenaways most theatrical, simplest, nothing really interesting in the camera movement or framing, his signature symmetry is barely recognizible because the staging is so fucking crowded, and i mean literally, most of the film takes place among a giant crowd in burlesque overdetailed setpieces, it's shot from the same angles, the same distance, sometimes the camera will move a bit, it's visual noise
the text itself is of course the same signature Greenaway reptetivness which works in his more eclectic and more "alive" films, but becomes insufferable in a calculated filmed play
i don't hate all Greenaway but i definitely agree with that anon who calls him theatrical if we're talking about this movie
>>
>>214320346
that's more of a framing device
this shit was honestly completely useless, people hated Asteroid City but that was the only time Anderson actually tried to make a framing device that's not just a small quirk at like first and last few seconds of a movie

No, he did not. His filmmaking style is way too theatrical for it to be good. We already have directors like Grandrieux, Sokurov, Frammartino that are actually making movies. They make pure cinema, not this stagey trash made a hack who wished he was a painter instead

Consider how many arthouse & classics are actually available in proper HDR vs SDR. A conversion from SDR doesn't give a true HDR experience.

Might be because I don't like Westerns in general, but I don't get why Johnny Guitar is so revered. The movie is fine, the first half feels like a
theater play set in one room and with lots of dialogue. Not a bad thing, just curious.

I know I'll get crucified by every film student and art hoe ever for this, but:

Jean Dielman

Cassavetes

Not saying their bad, but I did not particularly care for them.

Retarded post aside, some people actually lack a protein that mosquitoes look for. You can identify the protein in yourself if your skin tends to inflame when you're bitten by the lil bros. People lacking the protein get bitten like 90% less and are only bit by the insects when they are lacking in food. Now you know something new.
Pic rel is a severe case of protein surplus on the whiteboy.

just watched the 2010 reconstruction of metropolis, the plot is silly specially the resolution, and it is interesting to see that considering its historical context, but the sets, the extras, the schizo montages, everything visual is great. I also liked how expressive Maria/robot maria was. What about M?
>>
I just woke up, lmao now way, they gave it Jarmusch? That means at least two people in Jury were angry at the pity Gaza movie so they had to compromise, that's fucking funny. Admittedly I am not a fan of giving big awards to old farts who already had their glory days, but whatever, it's not like there was good competition from the start Jarmusch seemed like one of the better ones in the lineup anyway. Lineup is again full of slop this year.
>>
>>214335686
>specially the resolution
Fritz agreed with you. He hated Metropolis precisely because the ending is a childish right-wing kumbaya. It's still a masterpiece on a directorial level, though, and if you're looking for something with similarly opulent sets, check out Fritz Lang's 2 adaptations of Die Nibelungen. M is very different, as it actually has sound and lacks most of the German Expressionist elements, but a lot of people would argue that it's his best film.
