I don't personally think part 2 was that bad. It could use a more gradual intro though, and should be just as long as part 1. If I had to rework it I would probably introduce another shinigami that's antagonistic to Kira who would then go and try to recruit a detective to track him down. Of course the shinigami would be a based retard that can't figure anything out on his own or it would be easy for the new L. This new detective wouldn't be from wammy's house and would be more brutally efficient than L, willing to kill people on the feintest suspicion. We would spend a few episodes with them recruiting their new team, seeing things through their perspective before they get entangled with the main cast, and do a little worldbuilding for Kira's utopia including the brown nosers like Takada who have risen to prominent positions in media and politics, showing a festering corruption and insincerity beneath the veneer of peace. This new L wouldn't be as smart as L and we would get to see Light as a Mr. Jekyll / Dr Hyde type villain, only seeing his good guy persona while he systematically tears apart new L's team behind the scenes. Finally, bring in the wammy's house twinks Near and Mello, and pick up where the show started in part 2. Like I said, I didn't mind it personally.

Role reversal: Light becomes a good person again after feeling remorse for killing so many people while L steals the death note and goes on a killing spree. Light suspects a 3rd death note user, having no idea that it's L. Ending is the same, but L is with the group, and he kills Light secretly with a piece of paper from the death note.

My fanfic from a long ass time ago.Instead of another detective it should have been a terrorist with mask group. They attacked (explosives or something) light can’t do shit without names and then the leader announces on tv a challenge to Kira. The public wait for him to kill them but it never happens. Then the public starts losing faith because he didn’t do shit which inspires new criminal activity with the same mask. Light has to work with the police to kill them that way. I guess you can have another not as smart detective working with him but he also wants to kill Kira. The 2nd detective eventually figures Kira is within the police as he learns the L history and the name mechanic. He tells everyone about the name mechanic to explain why Kira didn’t do anything. And when they finally get one of the members he makes sure that he doesn’t tell them their name or any other member. Only 5 people have direct contact with the member light included. Eventually he tells them the leader’s main motive is to get Kira’s power so light uses this as a advantage. When those 2 are alone he tells him the he’s kira so he can spill more to him.
