I caught zero logic in all that. And that last bit? Pure gibberish.
The verdict? It's slop.
yep it sucks

reddit the movie
>>214319346Filtered
>>214319391give me a review of the movie without using arthoe reddit words like postmodern, mythos, banality, dissonance and moral scaffolding
I think it's an entertaining movie, but ultimately meaningless. Kinda like Clockwork Orange but without cool aesthetics.
>>214319558The point of the movie is literally spelled out for you in the opening monologue you braindead zoomer. Just stick to tiktok.
>>214319630never used tiktok
>>214319346You guys are so proud of your ignorance and inability to enjoy what isn't ever really high art. Complete philistines. Fucking pathetic. Is that the new rebellion here? Rejecting things that are popular and good? How edgy and punk of you. Or stupid. Either way I don't know what you get out of looking foolish.
>>214319952*even
>>214319346correct>>214319391"filtered" is the emperor's new clothes word replacement for "stupid", I see.if people don't see the clothes, they are "filtered". after all, the two merchants - cohen and cohen told everyone that their clothes/film was amazing, breathtaking, a work of art, genius, you just must be too "stupid" to understand it.nothing happens, a bunch of pointless seventies stylised rubbish.they forgot to make a point to the film, or n ending, or a plot.i guess they wanted to copy pulp fiction but didn't know how.
>>214319346>I caught zero logic in all that. And that last bit? Pure gibberish.
he means that singular country is rampant with evil so he's gotta move to another country
>>214319380Then, OP became woke.
>>214319389Too chuddy for reddit. Also a lack of gay and interracial sex.
>>214319961This is a severely brown worldview. “Saar there was no point to movie saar nothing happen no plot saar”
>>214320186given it's a mexican film by a pair of yids, it's funny that you attempt that angle.it certainly isn't a eurogenic film; only dysgenic.
>>214319346It truly is absolute shit. People just don't understand that the Coens are classic trolls. Most likely because of their early lives. They did it with Fargo - informing audiences that it was a "true story" even though it wasn't, and they did it again with this.90% of the film is almost unbearably-tense; a "thriller" in every sense of the word. Then, a particular act happens off-screen, the sheriff decides he's too much of a cowardly-faggot and drops his pursuit, and all we're left with is the motto, "hurrrr, it really IS no country for old men!"Joel and Ethan Coen took a great, big, steaming dump on your upturned, salivating faces. And you cried and begged for more. Eat shit. You're obviously good at it.
>>214320533good post
>nobody caught onto the fact that this is a marty quote from true detective
the point of this movie is that violence and the law of the jungle always applies even if you aren't aware of it or equipped to deal with it, so does chance and you can never really have fate in your hands, the point of refusing to play along with chigurhs cointoss, chigurh almost dying in an accident, llewelyn outplaying chigurh but getting caught by the low-tier cartel goons anyway, the old sheriff feeling so outmatched and then hearing from his cousin things were always tough, nothing ever changed. its a rightwing/conservative worldview because it is anti-idealist, you have to be really lowtest to not get this movie on first watch.
>>214321375That's why saying it's "reddit the movie" makes no sense. It's inherently fascist and darwinian.
>>214319346The film itself is exceptionally well made, even if you didn't like the writing or themes. It's still probably one of the most finely polished films I've seen
>>214319346It's interesting to compare this film to a lot of the really early Westerns. It's crazy how pessimistic Westerns became within that time from that point of view. No Country takes a ton of Western story tropes and subverts basically all of them in a really cynical way. Obviously there are a lot of other pessimistic westerns before as well as after, but No Country sort of represents the epitome of this to me.
>>214319380Beat me to it
>>214319558>the characters are strangely compelling for how little we learn of them. TLJ is mesmerizing as the aging sheriff out of his depth and chigurh is fascinating and terrifying in every scene, whether he is speaking quietly on the phone or killing a room full of people with a shotgun.>the screenplay is extremely tight with very little fat or excess in the form of unnecessary scenes, almost every moment or line of dialogue serves to further the plot or the characterization of the protagonists.>the lack of music was also an interesting choice that gives the violence some punch - it doesn't go for hollywood glamour. firefights are brutal, fast and disorienting.>the movie pontificates a lot on the idea of america losing it's soul/innocence and succumbing to mindless violence, but this was flipped on its head in one of the final scenes where sheriff bell's uncle chastises him for voicing that same opinion, pointing out that the death of his grandfather - shot on his porch in cold blood by indians with no explanation - was of an equally senseless nature, and that america had always been a land of violence and chaos.>sheriff bell's dream from the final monologue, then, where he sees his father riding through a blizzard carrying fire in a horn, can be interpreted as a symbol of hope where the hooded figure carrying fire against the encroaching blizzard represents the spirit of civilization - a small spark of hope, constantly threatened with destruction from all sides, but steadfast, warm and welcoming nonetheless
>>214321476the movie is pretty popular on reddit but people are also just baiting in this threadredditors are just stupid and don't grasp how ideology or messaging is tied to internal/philosophical worldviews, these days Blood Meridian is super popular on reddit with the gamer crowd because a youtuber did a video on it, none of them have any idea what the content is like because it is so heavily censored to be on youtube, they haven't read it ofcourse. no country for old men is also just a good thriller.
>>214321690>>the characters are strangely compelling for how little we learn of themyes i give it to you. except woody was a wrong cast. >>214321690>>the screenplay is extremely tight with very little fat or excess in the form of unnecessary scenes, almost every moment or line of dialogue serves to further the plot or the characterization of the protagonists.this is false. there are plenty of slow moments just for the sake of it. hacky and pretentious>musicits aight> idea of america losing it's soul/innocence thats a common knowledge that old people for 1000s of years whine about the decadencereminds me of picrel>sheriff bell's dreamle 'hope is a good thing maybe the best of thing'booooringbut thanks for the reply. i now understand why so many people like it
If NCFOM is slop I fear what you'd consider good. One of 21st centuries best thrillers
>>214322713
>>214319346The movie is absolutely kino but yeah the themes are Boomer core "things ain't like they used to be"
>>214322713i dont really think its slop. i just think the message is not some novel thing we have haven't heard a thousand times.plenty of slow moments felt undeserved and forced.
>>214321476Retards just try to call anything that's popular that they didn't like reddit so they can act like they trumped it. It was an effective phrase that faggots lost the meaning of
this is the only movie I can confidently say was about literally nothing
>>214322713>what you'd consider goodOviously the kinos of Chris Nolan. Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet. Beats coenslop by a mile.jk lol
Hope No Country fans have seem Blood Simple. It's one of their oldest and I think it has a lot of the same charm in a different manner>>214322683Certainly not false. The screenplay is very tight. It's on you if you think scenes are slow. Every piece of the movie is perfect and necessary. I want more of that from Coen brothers than anything.
>>214322789>message>does it have a message>didn't care for the messageUtterly discarded opinion with. A good movie doesn't need a message and NCFOM is a masterpiece completely regardless of its perceived message. And I'm a huge Mccarthy fan. It's good because it's thrilling, it keeps you wondering what's happening, the characters are great and well acted, and the writing is excellent
>>214322935>Every piece of the movie is perfect and necessary. You give them too much credit.
>>214322985woody, moss, wife and sherrif's apprentice are all plain characters>antunle force of evil. psychopath plays with people. walmart's heath ledger joker>sherrifonly good character.
>>214322935Fargo is probably as good as No Country, toss up between which is better. Just rewatched Fargo last week. What do /tv/irgins think: Frago vs. No Cuntry?
>>214322987It's one of the best movies since the millennium and it's filmed in a way that makes old thrillers look archaic in both direction, cinematography, and writing.
>>214323058>walmart's heath ledger jokerLOL. Bardem's Chigurh is muuuch better than le licks lips jokester. Get real faggatron. Outed yourself as a massive plebeian, ha!
>>214323093ok tell me why anton's character is good.
>>214323060Fargo is good but I generally prefer coens more dramatic movies.>>214323058Llewellyn, chigurh, moss, and woody are all great characters. They are western style stoicism and they're convincing. Wife is good too. Then you have the individual side characters like the motel lady and store clerk who are perfect and very real feeling for their individual scenes. Everyone loves the did I stutter lady. Even the Agua mexican is iconic. Characters do not need to have layers and layers of depth to be good of which only the sheriff really does.
>>214323146Chigurh represents elemental, universal laws/forces, he's not simply an evil, psychopathic "common" criminal. Also represents the unfeeling indifference of nature/the universe. Nolan's Jokester is just a clever criminal who babbles about le chaos pseudo-intelligently, setting up silly dilemmas like the two boats and burning the pile of cash. Why? Because it's heckin epic and slightly "more interesting" (lol!) than Marvelslop, I guess? Really gets the MCU-brained noggin joggin, as the kids say. Bardem's acting was better too, and he didn't need to kill himself with drugs to get the Oscar. The Academy gets their awards right sometimes at least. Chigurh comes from nowhere, the ether, and returns thence.
>>214323146not him but hes intelligently competent, the way he goes after people and scouts locations, sets a car on fire to distract the pharmacy, leaves no witnesses, uses a shotgun with makeshift silencer, uses a cattlegun in different ways, its all very original and clever, hollywood never writes characters like these themselves, their only idea of "psychopath" is some cartoonish sadist who loses because of his stupidity.
>>214319346Just wait until you read Blood Meridian and the chilling and profound ending is a giant fat mans bald ballsack swinging around while he dances a jig.
>>214323390He's a great favorite the judge.
>>214320533People were so mad when I saw it opening weekend. Big audible "what the fuck was that" declaration at the end. As you said, the Coens always do this. They made everyone mad with Lebowski after Fargo too. Ebert gave it a bad review (only to change his mind a couple of years later and call it a masterpiece)
>>214323390>>214323417Cringe
>>214323417>Boy I sure had doubts about that pretentious, hulking, violent, pedophile freak>But you just can't deny he's a lot of fun when he's dancing and screaming about being immortalHad McCarthy ever left his house and met a real human?
>>214323390I stopped reading BM after about 45 pages, don't remember why because I quite liked it. The diction/word choice alone makes it interesting, and it'd be a bit tricky to convey that via film. I guess the characters could use some colorful dialogue. McCarthster must have read so much of Southern and Western US dialects, Spanish dialects, a bunch of Latin, French, German, etc. That aspect of the book is impressive and activates my almonds.
>>214323373explain the coin thing. what does this mean? why is being an edgelord>>214323323see thats the thing. the le indifference, banality are boring.'force of nature' is too one dimensional to be good
>>214323444>Ebert gave it a bad reviewonly an absolute cocksucker cares about Ebert and his pedestrian drivel-filled "reviews".
>>214323533>the le indifference, banality are boring.Sure it can be, and it's not a revolutionary character or idea, but the way Macarthy and Bardem/Coens portrayed was very well done, imo. He's almost maybe supernatural, like people say the Judge from Blood Meridian is, maybe.
>>214323533llewelyn isnt a "force of nature", hes just a guy, and a psychopath, thats the point of the last coin toss scene and the fact he gets hit by a car, its just that he pretends he is this force and larps about the predeterminism, its both talking about how life and fate is about cointosses like this and the attitudes you can have around it.
