Paulie was an incompetent cockroach that survived due him being irrelevant. By the end of the series the Dimeo family ( or glorified crew) is destroyed with nothing but scraps. New york could take over most of their territory and do some business with whose left. I think Paulie would be treated like a associate, they wouldn't even give him a crew or consider them one of their own soldiers.

The Hit in front of Tonys family was most likely deemed as needed due to how they took Phil out. It came from New York or even the other families. Tony was all that was left of a semi-functional crew and already the sopranos were making less money and he had a gambling problem. Just getting rid of him so more competent people in New york could take over his territory was good for business. By the end of the series all the dimeo leadership and talent is dead, New York didn't even want to bother trying to work with them. The Hit on Tony was not a big deal because he could hardly be called a Don in the first place and now he's nothing.

Starts with a fade in from black, see meadow approaching holstens as she opens the door 5 flashes occur from inside and a man pushes past her as she falls to the floor.

Cut to 16 years later.

Main ark is showing the fallout and effect of the assassination of Tony, and how some people have moved on for the better, others for the worse.
Tensions between the jersey and new York families are now cemented over but built on shakey foundations with huge amounts of distrust on behalf of each in regards to killing of Tony and Phil.

Revealed that Tony’s death was by Eugene’s family using money to pay off a hitman wearing his jacket. Once made public, this puts huge pressure on jersey for killing phil, even if he was disliked by his own family and is now known to have had a prison relationship with a man and is laughed about, people now compare him to Vito.

Janice had removed junior from the nursing home to try and claim the leadership of jersey families using him as a puppet, but his use of the same drug that helped him, has recovered some of his autonomy and has a relationship with Bobby’s grown son.
Ultimately the families don’t take her claim seriously but Bobby’s son kindles a relationship with the man closest to his father in life, with junior encouraging Bobby’s son to take a normal life, way from the mob, and marry, and have kids.
Janice’s manipulations eventually meet a head when junior pushes her off a ladder falling to her death while putting away stuff in linen closet with various board games and the spirit board from earlier seasons landing on the floor next to her. (A call back to both aj taking Bobby’s kids a spirit board to contact there mother and Janice trying to replace his dead wife)

Meadow has become very bitter after the killing of Tony and has shifted into defending scumbags for money and using drugs, her arc to match Christopher’s without the death, but maybe pushing family away.

AJ is now very different after being hit by stray bullets from sitting across from Tony, causing huge brain injuries and disfigurement. He is somewhat slow, very aggressive and can’t move very well without help, much to the bane of carmella who is trying to move on with a returned Furio. (Mirroring Tony’s and his mothers disfunctional relationship)
Adding to the difficulty is a returning priest who is now very bitter that carmella didn’t move on with him.

Dr Melfi is in the series but we only see her having sessions with carmella and artie bucco. Conversations are to be based around the effect Tony had on each of their lives and what he would make of things around them today.

The crime family still work out of satrielles and the bing, with them heavily weakened, Paulie is now the “on paper” head of the family, with a wheel chair and oxygen bound Silvio making the real calls. Both learning that the world has moved on from a lot of the older gigs they ran for money and having to rely on younger members. (Reflected especially by them both having no children or heirs).
Silvio unable to let go of the attack on his life and his presumed attack on Tony, is furious that they now pay extra to newyork for the killing of Phil, and plans revenge attacks on their businesses and ultimately their lives, climaxing in a poker game (a series staple for boiling over conflict) in which Sil kills the kid of the replacement Newyork boss knowing it spells doom for the future of the family and dies in the process. Paulie failing to act (an act of cowardice and inaction) saves his life but his cancer diagnosis doesn’t leave him much time.
