Apparently there is going to be some sort of "twist" with Nolan's version of The Odyssey, and I think I know what it is. In the leaked trailer we see Telemachus talking to Smoke Local (who I think is supposed to be Nestor, lmao) about what happened to his dad. Asking him what he knows after the war, where he might have gone. And the Punisher says to him that he's heard many things, and eventually he raises his voice and says something like, "Who here has heard tales of brave Odysseus?" in a hall full of people eating. We all know that Nolan has a hardon for telling narratives out of order, or people being unreliable with the information they provide the viewer. Think about how many of his films are put together this way. It's functionally all of them except the Batman films and Insomnia. He even did it in fucking Oppenheimer. And so, this is what I think the "twist" is: Rather than tell each part of the Odyssey from Odysseus' perspective, they are going to basically do a "campfire story" film where people will randomly get up and tell of some story they heard about Odysseus, and this will line up with a cliff notes version of the events from the poem. This way he doesn't have to cut any major sections, but can also truncate each plot point down to a length of time that's digestible. Otherwise the film would be like 8 hours long. If, instead, the film is situated like this, we can still get the more fantastical parts of the narrative that Nolan probably hates into film (because they're technically tall-tales being told second or thirdhand), and then Telemachus is told a more ground narrative near the end that basically gets him to go home feeling defeated. At which point, the timelines converge, and Odysseus's whole showdown with the suitors occurs but Telemachus plays a more active role because it's Nolan, and he'd do that.

Making most of the film Odysseus just lying to the Phaeacians (assuming they don't get cut out) to impress them in order to get a boat ride back home would be a better way of displaying Odysseus's trickster nature while keeping the story relatively grounded.
