Hitchcock was right about this movie. Homage my ass. DePalma is utterly shameless.

>Hitchcock was right about this movie.
What did he say about it?

Hitchcock?

>On Kevin Pollack’s Chat Show, director John Landis, who ‘lunched with Hitchcock every other week for three years’, says the Master himself was pissed off by the whole thing;
>‘A film came out called Dressed to Kill…and Hitch did not like the movie. He was offended by it…Hitch was terribly upset by the fact that all the reviews said ‘Hitchcockian’ and all the ads read ‘Hitchcockian’…it really pissed him off…he didn’t like the movie and he was kinda ranting about it….I said ‘Hitch, he’s not stealing from you, it’s a homage’, and without hesitation he said ‘You mean fromage?’’

its better than most hitchcock

De Palma is insanely overrated. Everyone agrees that his films of the past few decades are atrocious, but his earlier films are mostly not much better. Just a bunch of plagiarized technique with awkwardly inserted fetishism. No wonder Tarantino idolizes him.
I’m quite fond of Phantom of the Paradise
>>
>>214326412
Well at least you recognize Phantom is kino.

I can believe he said this but there's a discrepancy:
>Jan 1980: Dressed to Kill wraps filming
>April '80: Hitchcock dies
>July '80: Dressed to Kill is released
Hitchcock likely saw a rough cut of the film before passing and voiced his displeasure to other directors like Landis, but how could he be upset about reviews that came out three months after his death?

Phantom is his best film with Carrie and Blow Out following it.
>>
>>214326412
>De Palma is insanely overrated
He has more great, genuinely kino films under his belt than not.
WTF are you even talking about?
What you're saying is statistically impossible.

Based.

Carlito's Way is purest fucking kino.

I like Michael J Fox in naaam.

BDP wrote and directed this. Hitch didn't write shit. Hitch is the man, but if he shit talked this flick, he was wrong.
>>
>>214328150
It's White guilt schlock with good performances
>>
>>214326251
I'm calling bullshit. Hitchcock was on his death bed and unlikely to find the time to "lunch with John Landis every other week". Has Landis ever been called out for spewing this bullshit?
>>
>>214326412
>his earlier films are not much better
Shit opinion. Everybody agrees his earlier films like Hi Mom! Or Sisters are some of his best. He didn't really go downhill until the vastly overrated Scarface (1983)
>>
>>214328655
>Scarface is overrated
It's not. It's a spectacular film that is lightning in a bottle. Nothing is like it and nothing has come since. It's a masterfully done film. White hands typed this post.
>>
>>214328591
hitchcock was a piece of shit. he called young spielberg a "kike" for visiting his movie set
>>
>>214326147
Dressed to Kill is way better than anything Hitchcock ever made.

Also, there are basically no similarities other than both films featuring a crossdressing character.
>>
>>214326412
Yeah but they had really fancy camera work and editing. It's like how music nerds cite some great band and when you tell them the songs are gay, they start ranting about the Guitar solos.
>>
>>214326691
He didn't see it. Landis is lying. He's even specifically talking about the critical reception, of which there was none when Hitchslop died.
>>
>>214330075
>Yeah but they had really fancy camera work and editing
Literally the only thing that matters in a movie
>>
>>214330001
You mean cheese of wit?
>>
>>214326147
yeah
