There’s an infinite amount of slop about how robots and AI is alive and just like you fr, but is there anything out there that intelligently argues the opposing view?

Ex Machina.

The Butlerian Jihad happens long before Dune and was only part of the story so that Herbert could write something different

Terminator
>>
Oddly enough, this.
It pulls a very dirty trick in that it's a maudlin, emotional journey but at the end if you really think about it, it intentionally NEVER actually establishes that the little fucker is sentient

Pretty crazy movie. So at the end with the far future robuts, they seem pretty sentient? They aren't humans in robot bodies but something humans created.
>>
>>214331507
By the opposing view you mean that humans are slaves to their chemicals like AI is slave to its coding?

The TOS episode 'what are little girls made of ?' argues that the artificial humanoids lack some special qualities that real humans have and are unaware of this.

Still canon

Terminator 1 is the only film that has this view and it goes farther into robots are just like us with all the lore additions

subversive antihuman materialist propaganda

Picard season 1 argues this pretty well, though not intentionally

Tbf to that thought experiment most of the humans I’ve interacted with in real life are almost certainly Chinese Rooms themselves.

When it comes to philosophy, the first is all that matters, everything that comes after is seen to be perversion intended to subvert the truth, the wise understand this and don't bother pointing it out.
>>
>>214332334
Right now AI coding doesn’t function anything like human chemicals do. It just produces the response it thinks you expect based on prior learning.
It doesn’t want to feel good like humans.
>>
>>214333326
I agree but that doesn't hurt the argument

This was a plot point in Battle Angel Alita.

the big ol plot twist in one of the early stories was that the poor cyborg people living in the slums are the only real humans left. Even though they replace most of their bodies with robot parts, they still have their human brains. Meanwhile, all the richfags living in the city and stars are just meat robots with cpus for minds. The idea was that a normal human brain cant stand the horror of long term space travel. The sollution was to basically kill people, scoup out their brains, and then replace the brain with an AI-chip that THINKS its them. Alita accidently finds this out while murdering her way through a facility, she cuts their heads off to kill them (like she does to most of her enemies) but is shocked when no brain comes out... instead its just an empty skull with a single cpu chip.

But like I said before, these people dont know they are robots. So when they find out that they have no brain... they lose their minds. In fact its well documented in the setting that 90% of the people who find out that they are robots will go insane, and then try to violently kill themselves and everyone around them. So their entire society is set up to keep them seperated from the real humans so they never find out that they are the fake ones.

ironically, the only character that can maintain their sanity after finding out that they are a robot is the already insane ones, like the main antagonist.

Oh yeah I remember that, it’s been years since I read it. They get their brains scooped at puberty or something so after the truth becomes known it turns into a kids versus adults thingy

Altered Carbon plays around with a similar idea but does nothing to address how horrific it is, essentially all humans are killed at birth

As part of childbirth everyone is surgically implanted with a Cortical Stack, a device that replaces the function of the brain. Its benefit is that when your body dies, the Stack can simply be removed and slotted into another one. Most people lead fairly mundane lives where they wageslave to save up enough money to buy a new young cloned body when they're old, so that they can continue to wageslave etc. although of course richfags have garages full of spare bodies.

The protagonist has become very adept at shooting people in the nape of their neck to make sure they stay dead. Sometimes he'll have a regular shootout and then afterwards go around the pooling blood and destroy the Stack of every one of his bullet-riddled victims. If it's the kind of situation where he doesn't have time to do that, rest assured that asshole will be back later in a new body.

No, Samuel Butler's ideas in Erewon and "Darwin amongst the machines" are important to Hebert's own ideas being expressed in Dune.

You maybe have made the mistake of reading his idiot son's book when he think the Butlerian Jihad was to do with someone called Butler who started a Jihad (I conclude from the dust jacket anyway). Which is unspeakably stupid.
