I think a lot of it stems from boomer emotional instability. If you grew up with boomer parents, there was inevitably a moment where they would just fly off the handle over something minor and innocuous, leaving you, a toddler, totally confused as to why you just got yelled at. They'd never explain it, they'd never try to reconcile, they just left you shocked and confused and never brought it up again.
