It's aite. Plot gets worse as it gets more ayy lmao.

it starts kino
but yeah I don't like the "scifi" stuff much. won't spoil it. but worth watching for beginning space kino

i mean, it reflects real life, whats the problem?
>>

Best of luck. There's some really interesting worldbuilding and kino scenes like that kid getting spaced by his uncle or whatever but I get fatigue from Marlboro Pajeeta and usually give up when they introduce Insufferable Martian Solder Girlboss Who Can't Act.
>>
3 seasons of kino then...ehh
>>
>>214364051
>What am I in for?
A glimpse of the future, where Baby Talk is the official language of wiggers born on asteroids (the future's trailer parks). Also, Martians are pajeets larping as Texans. Quite a melting pot out there in space.
>>
>>214364051
does the show suck ass past the first arc like the books?
>>
>>214364051
I wouldn't advise binging. There's a lot to it, and a lot of characters. You should take time to think about what you're seeing, what's going on, who everyone is, who the factions are. And besides, it's the best show in the last decade. Once it's up, there's not much else on the same level
>>
>>214364051
>Alex not on the complete series cover
Damn, hoss...
>>
>>214364051
One of the most overrated shows of the past decade, with the extra bonus of each season being way fucking worse than the previous one.. It was never good, but people deluded themselves in first season that this is "realistic" and thus somehow not shit.
>>
>>214364051
It's up and down. Still worth watching.
>>
doors & corners kid
>>
>>214364684
Them all being Creole speaking Irishmen was a really cool concept. They were like every discriminated group rolled into one and then left in space. Later on when they all just got turned into the brown hordes of Zion in the Matrix and almost none of them still did the language thing right or used their hands while talking sucked.
>>
>>214364051
It's crazy how the black chick was actually kind of hot in the beginning and then by the end of the show she looked 55

S1-3 are kino, 4 is decent, 5 is okay, and 6... is short.

Book 6 was also the weakest but the books were all lit kino. 7-9 may be as good as 1-3

oof
>>
>>214365620
what's crazy is how she is the worst character in the entire show and by worst i mean as an individual this person being portrayed is human detritus. she is a traitor, a liar, a criminal, and all the while trying to play righteous and innocent.

The scifi is the point. Hard sci-fi parts are there to make it work. The story wouldn't work if it didn't start hard.

>>
>>214364432
I thought it was scifi escapism? but if more "realism" is what you want.
>>
>>214364370
On the contrary. The beginning of the story cockteases you with ayy shennanigans, and then humanity finally discovers the gate network and then it's right back to muh rebel faction vs Earth/Mars and the ayy shit firmly takes a back seat never to become truly relevant again

idk what /tv/ is talking about, The Expanse is pretty good. Season 1 is rough and looks cheap as shit, but Thomas Jane really grows on you. Season 2 is pretty great, season 3 is fantastic. 4 is good, 5 is kind of shitty, and season 6 is a mixed bag with some great stuff in it.

Bobbie is a cool character because she fucks up every earther and belter scum she encounters with ease showing that the MCRN Marines are just built different and really fucking scary to encounter. 3 Seasons of Kino with kino finale.
Don't bother with the rest.
Amazon did not in fact saved it from cancellation.
>>
>>214364051
I think people underappreciate S1.
It was survival kino, detective kino, with both plots coming together in horror kino, and all sprinkled with political background.
Like, people often say "Watch Ep4 and if won't like it, then drop it", but i think first 3 were very good at gripping your wrist too.
>>
>>214364051
I think the ayys stuffs and ayys gate is a big mistake and they should really stay as spooky looming threat, kinda like eldritch, cosmic horror in lovecraft
>>
>>214373437
Laconians (the Martian rebels that escape through a ring gate with a stolen fleet) find an automated ship factory and use it to build hybrid ships. They dominate earth and everyone else with those ships. Ayyys take notice of the alien tech going through ring gates and start taking bites of things that pass throuh (literally).
Laconian emperor merges his DNA with the protomolecule to become immortal, he gets arrogant and tries to send bombs to attack the ayys, so the ayys repeat their attack that killed the ringbuilders, humans survive it but they fuck up the emperor and he goes into a coma, the OPA exploits that and beats them (bobby draper suicide bombs the laconian ship in Sol).
Long story short, the emperor wakes up and tries to merge his consciousness with the ringbuilders and Holden shows up at the last minute and just unplugs the faggot. GG.
Last scene is Amos on earth far into the future, he's living in the rubble (he's immortal now because he was rebuilt by the protomolecule on Laconia after a failed assassination attempt on the emperor got him blasted) and he meets some survivors and he's all cryptic and badass about life lessons an shit.
Good books.

>>
>>214374251
I really liked the double alien world, with humans stumbling into a graveyard of proto/builder "Roman" ruins who got beat by the "goths".

But in the end the last books leaned too heavily into individual characters. Duarte was fine as a madman Elon musk with alien tech, but we really didn't need everything to resolve around bobby, Amos etc
>>
>>214374433
It Has a dyke preacher, hard pass!
>>
>>214364051
>What am I in for?

Pic related hard carrying it foir a season and a half. Then while you get some great Amos scenes, and good characters like Ashford, the show never really recovers from Millers absence.
>>
>>214374686
The last books were really just a goodbye to the characters. The story was resolved after bobby died and the combined fleet retook the gates.
I find them bitter-sweet because I loved the first 3 books so much. The series was at its best during the Illos campaign.
>>
>>214374251
>>214374686
You left out that the ringbuilders are still alive. They went into hiding and hibernation inside a Jupiter-sized diamond because they're more like energy beings. That made them very vulnerable and susceptible to the attacks by the red god aliens. So they went to sleep for billions of years until a more hardy physical species developed space travel and they left clues/lures to draw in such a species. When that species finds the diamond, the plan was to tempt them into opening it and merging with the ringbuilders. They would then take over Humanity completely and Humanity would welcome it because they wouldn't understand what's happening or be able to stop it at that point. Pretty interesting twist on the story. They barely managed to prevent it, and had to disconnect all 1300 worlds of humanity to make it happen. That killed off many worlds and plunged others into dark ages
>>
>>214374841
Fuck u I forgot that shit and I'm just starting the last book again. You spoiled me good.

>>
>>214375012
That's the stuff I like most about the Expanse. It exploring how future humans would live out in the solar system and their experiences. Like people born and growing up only in space stations, would experience complete terror going down to a planet where it's all open air, water as far as the eye can see, the gravity feels like you weigh 1000lbs (even though it's 1G), and they can't balance for shit. The weakest part of adapting the book is that they couldn't make Belters look how they're really supposed to. They're becoming almost a different species. And that's why there's such hostility and why the events in books 4/5/6 happen. Some Belters want to escape the life in the asteroids. And others see it as their chance to finally get revenge on Inners. And many don't want the big change to happen since their way of life is doomed.
>>
>>214375262
Yeah i like all those stuffs about humanity, not the generic ayy plot line
Especially the one about muh space emperor and hijacking ayy anon just told
What the hell is this, star scraft?
>>
>>214375435
It's not generic and far better than most scifi aliens. They're not just humans with face makeup. The story is running with the idea that humans get out into space and there's already been advanced civilizations out that that conquered things billions of years ago and are long gone. Same shit happened in reality with humans finding crumbled empires. Then the story is exploring how finding their technology changes the various parts of humanity. It's a mad dash gold rush, destroying the disciplined united Mars terraforming project as everyone scrambles to get theirs, destroying the belt as no one will want to live their anymore, finally relieving Earth of its overcrowded status as billions of humans can be shipped off to new worlds. But of course every faction will be trying to get power over the others and start killing each other to do so. Just exploring how humans have acted for real in these same situations in the past
>>
>>214375980
A pity it was the usual shitty grey drama in space feat unliekable people
>>
>>214364051
The rebels being these poor misunderstood and oppressed victims. The leniency and tolerance for their crimes they're shown later on unironically shattered my suspension of disbelief.

>>214375980
The whole proto-builders and wormhole aliens situation is so fucking interesting but instead the show and books spent 2 installments on fucking Naomi and her family. Nearly stopped reading.

Also its obvious in S6 that they stopped right before it got interesting again.

>The leniency and tolerance for their crimes they're shown later on unironically shattered my suspension of disbelief.

They're space Palestine, even though they are objectively in the wrong by being terrorists that are attack the entities that supply them with their needs, people like them for being the underdog

>The weakest part of adapting the book is that they couldn't make Belters look how they're really supposed to
They tried it with the prostitute Miller's partner is seeing and the guy being tortured by Avasarala but probably ditched it because there simply aren't enough >2m tall actors to fill all the roles

>>
>>214376802
They needed to team up with James Cameron so he could lend them the tech to make actors appear to be enormous on screen
>>
>>214376777
It's literally what happens in the books, but to Fred Johnson. And it's not some one in a million asspull. They constantly worry about that happening to people. Bobby thought Avasarala was going to die that way. It would be worse if they made such a fuss and it never happens to anyone

>>
>>214381625
They needed to explore one of the alien worlds. If they didn't, you'd just be endlessly whining about it. And the stuff that happened is pretty much the logical conflict to happen and one of the only ways to make an interesting conflict to drive a story. The other season were plenty good. But you're a buffoon that lets other people tell him what to think. So you deserve to move on to your slop series.

>Hard science fiction is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes scientific accuracy and technical detail in its portrayal of the world, focusing on the "hard" sciences like physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. The core principle is that stories are built on scientific plausibility and logical extrapolation of existing knowledge, where scientific principles are central to the plot and its solutions.
Nothing in there says it needs to be 100% fully real. It's still 1000x more hard than star wars and trek and anything else on tv. So fuck off.

First 3 seasons are great. The lead actor isn't very good, and no wonder I haven't seen him in a single thing since this ended, dude can't act.
But overall it's a solid show. Season 4 is pretty mediocre. Season 5 is OK, season 6 is good. It ends without ever really finishing the books which kind of sucks.

A Decent sci-fi show from the last decade at least. Not too many of them.
>>
>>214383244
It did not. Wish they included that kek.

Bad joke
>>
>>214364051
Insane jumps in quality from season to season and by the fifth one wildly different camera aspect ratios, lighting and editing from scene to scene. Truly experimental masterpiece
>>
>>214364051
Great setting, mid plot, mediocre characters, poor acting.
>>
>>214385242
Definitions are fluid. Take it easy, Tyler.

I hold the same position as you, it’s only that when you’re talking to people with a fixed definition of hard sci-fi, what they’re implying is as you stated it: 100% fully real.

Watched this. Good at first, the muttification was just barely tolerable, but then the whole show degenerated into soap opera slop. Some episodes were "We have overspent the budget, so lets have Naomi just do a lot of grunting and crying". One entire season was basically a Star Trek rerun.
Surprised no one has mentioned the fucked editing. Nearly every scene hangs for 10 seconds longer than it should. Every emotional scene is drawn out for 100x longer than it should. Meanwhile the grunty space battle scenes are too short.

Now if you think they fucked this series up with all the soap opera bullshit, the terrible acting, and the insufferable mutt girlboss, then watch "Foundation" They did exactly the same thing.
Its like they are deliberately reducing everything down to mutt slop.
>>
The muttification is a incomprehensible oxymoron.
Why does every black actor have to be a mutt? Aren't 100% African actors good enough?
Where are the 100% Nigerian, Somalian and Kenyan actors?
Where are the Burmese, Indonesian, Uzbek, Cambodian, Pakistani, and Eskimo actors?
I thought these diversity fucks were in favor of diversity?
Its almost like they have an internal racism that says "All diversity actors must be Mutts"
Surprising no one has called them out on this.
>>
In the book, Naomi is a foot taller than Holden since he's from earth.
>tfw no giant belter gf

That scene made me hate Belters and want them all dead.

There were 6 seasons. The first three seasons had some bloat. The last 3 were stacked full of bloated trash with pointless subplots
Perhaps one day a Chad will edit it all down by half, to 3 seasons by:
Cutting out all the meaningless subplots
Cutting out all the woman drama
Cutting out all the pointless vanilla sex scenes which are just boring.
Cutting out anything to do with Naomi and Bobbi which isn't absolutely necessary to the story.
Cutting out every time Avasarala says "Fuck", which was just pure cringe.
Editing out all the unnecessary lingering shots.
"The Expanse: The Chad's cut"
Then it might be worth watching.

Wokeness is a religion based on hate and homogenization.
They get to decide the meaning and direction of words like "diversity", "progress" and "good"

Its a trend I am sure we have all noticed in not just TV and films but also in games.
Start off with something that appeals to the early adopters. The early adopters are usually pragmatic people who value substance over style, realism over fantasy. They tend to be active thinkers rather than passive recipients.
You get the early adopters hooked, they become serious fans, which then brings in the 2nd tier of people who recognize a good thing, but make the mistake of telling the mainstream people about it.Things snowball rapidly. The presence of the mainstream then attracts the retards and the women. Now they far outnumber the early adopters and the second tier. The retards dont understand it, the women dont actually like it, but they are sheep and just follow everyone else.
Now the producers pounce.
Its important to keep the women and the retards engaged for that precious advertising revenue, and the ratings. So they dumb it down for the retards. They mutt it up for the liberal cockroaches for who every cultural icon is a battleground. They turn it into a soap opera for the women. Rating go through the roof! Shills pump out positive reviews so as to get every fuckwit on board. The money pours in so more slop can be pumped out.

This is why, gentlemen, any thread about "The Expanse" is 95% hate on 4chan, because 4chan is full of early adopters and 2nd tier users And why if you go on reddit, which is full of retards, women, and liberal cockroaches, and if you can avoid vomiting for 5 minutes, you will see nothing but 95% over the top glowing gushing about how fucking wonderful it is.

That's like saying "I watched a clip of someone from Alabama killing another person so I want all 300 million Americans dead". Belters are not one group. They are a millions of different peoples living in thousands of spread out different stations.

There's no way to make stories that appease modern generations anymore. They want everything to be endlessly repeating the same stuff. They want characters killed off, then brought back, then killed, then brought back.

>>
>>214401901
It's funny that Ashford and Drummer are not at all like their book counterparts who suck and have comparatively small roles. I too hate how Ashford went out though. Had Marco in his sights but gives it up to die, spare that loser Filip, and get them some knowledge of the rock attack.

Jared Harris really screwed them over as Dawes. He just vanishes and they say oh he died off screen!

Honestly don't get the cringe crying about budgets. This show was cancelled and they brought it back from the dead to give it some kind of closure. Overall, I think they did well, they worked with what they got, built a nice universe for a tv show, and told the story from the books pretty well.
>>
>>214403946
Is part was really small and he didnt like were the direction of the show was going and ask for more screen time. They refuse, he left.
>>
>>214404233
They made the right choice. He was a terrible casting pick so it was right to cut their losses.
>>
>>214404228
After the new game revives interest, they finally finish the final three seasons
>>
Rather than a mass effect clones, they need to make a game just playing with ships flying around the solar system to visit various stations.
>>
I am that guy.
