This book is the key to King's bullshit trick in his stories. Everyone is just under the influence of this pet semetary. It calls to people, and the people that live in the town are warped by it. This is the same horseshit magical logic the applies to a lot of his stuff - IT, Tommyknockers, Shining. It's pretty lame but it obviously works and is effective as a horror device to explain why anything is happening.

I always likes how the final confrontation between Lewis and Gage takes place in the morning. There's something creepier about it than if had taken place at night. One thing I wish they'd kept from the book is how the undead know all sorts of secrets about you and your loved ones, like how Gage taunts Jud about how his wife was a buttslut who got joy out of secretly cucking him with his friends.
