Anyone else notice that it's getting harder and harder to find torrents of things you need? Not only is new stuff not being uploaded to torrent, but old stuff is slowly being weeded out with zero seeds, even if you are lucky enough to find them.

>physical media really is the only way to actually preserve things for the future.

Yes, work in infosec and saw this comming so built a physical library of three thousand boxsets DVD/Blue ray and 1000+ old console games and PC games. I bought in bulk buying in 20 lbs and gave the duplicates to charity shops. Even three years ago you could get new sealed stuff in bulk for nothing but its gone now. Have about 100 titles left on my list mostly movies from the 70s back to the 30s but the bad news is prices have risen and availability has fallen off a cliff in the last 12 months. Act now and you might catch the tail end of it. I started with different lists of the top 100 of each major movie genre and series and then branched out. Did the same thing when PS1, PS2, 360 games and PC game media was being thrown out along with teh consoles. Have lots of players as well from decent makers like pioneer as well as pimped SFF PCs with optical drives and the 360s and PS2 also are players for DVDs. I got with bulk lots from estate auctions. I did not want to do domestic file serves and NAS as I have enought of that shit in work, Ikea shelving is your friend. My own private blockbuster gives me immense joy as does the movie/game room I have. Its going to suck for those left behind though. Act now. the only thing I left digital was music and porn and what I had on steam but I picked up a few hundred albums and best of on CD because I got them for nearly nothing. All this shit has become way more expensive in the last 12 months and even in the charity shops I see that there is less and less.

Infosec has made keying hashes of prirate streams and torrents and DNS and IP blocking dynamically on national backbones childs play anon. You are just techy enough to sail the seas but not techy enought to know what is happening. Lgeally its backed by age verififcation and cenbsorship laws that have come in everywhere recently but have been proposals and drafts for five years

e.g
https://www.theverge.com/news/754987/senators-foreign-piracy-sites-block-beard-act

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1k81lj8nvpo

etc etc
>>
>>214397037
TLDR
The same tech that alloows for near real time blocking of DDOS and exploits on internet backbones facilitates blocking data containing pirated media. AI in inforsec is the final lap. As soon as something gets fingereed for being a rip it can wind up on the same blacklists used to block malware or exploits which is helped by the fact that is mostly how bad actors distribute them from tube sites for movies and porn but it can also hammer torrents.
>>
>>214397037
A hash is the fingerprint for a lump of data by the way. Origins in cryptography. a decade ago this would have been compuationally too expensive and induced massive latency but the tech is there now.

etc etc Its also happened at the state and national level in over a hundred nations and states. Its evry real.

You are retarded. This post is filled with retardation. Then again most infosec guys nowadays can't configure RAID or a distributed file system.

I wated by private blockbuster because I am randy marsh. Find your own way by all means but don't ignore the tide coming in and be left with the normies in the sandcastles is my message. Get your library now while you can whatever way you choose. A billion optical disks a year go to landfill.

I've been around since the Novell days. 30 years and you still think optical media is the best format for file archival and retrieval? You haven't progressed in 20 years.
>>
52 weeks in a year
520 in a decade
20 years 1040 movies games and series required for kino minimum
3000 for choice and variety because this is the 1990s and a man has to have a little variety
>>
>>214397660
For a man who claims to have known PCON your insights are a bit worthless. If you want to keep a junk pile in your basement that's fine. I do my think you do yours. Enjoy the batteries on those raid cards dying clown. I have my blockbuster. I'm happy.
>>
>>214397660
Funnily enough though, we both have private libraries. I like the whole thing of picking a movie of the shelfI miss video stores and optical media will outlive me and provide kino to my kids for free as well. tranferable rights are kewl. Whatever the solution the message is get your kino when you can because its going behind paywalls fast. I would not trust cloud storage for my media, nothiong that depends on conectivity is yours.
>>
>>214397698
If corruption happens I have backups, but corruption won't happen because it's not 1995 and controllers failing won't fuck your shit up. Better my junk pile in the basement then a junk pile in your living room of burnt dvd's that are worthless. I threw about 1k of burned plastic away in the mid 2000's when magnetic media outscaled price per gb. My collection is far larger than yours at a fraction of the size and I can access each piece of media instantly when I want it on multiple devices. You enjoy wasting all that space, I keep mine for actual analog media like books and vinyl records.

Dude you are misisng my point do what makes you happy I got sick of server rooms a long time ago and don;t wany to be looking for parts for old servers for the rest of my life and again I LIKE picking movies of shelves, I like the cover art, I like my genre sections I like my kino you do to but have gone about it differently. My digital stuff is held on five SFFs that mirror each other via peer to peer to peer in a domestic lan that is airgapped btw but its music, a porn library and my own document stores and a library of stuff like vids on engineering and the best of youtube my movie and games are on disk again that's just my way because I'd rather have everythig up to 2016 on physical, shit like the best off 360 library or PS2/PS1 library, yes even PC games on physical release hell I even have big box 5.25 releases. BY point is we are doing the same thing in different ways that are comfy for us. Me? I don't want to prick around with server rooms or connectivity based solutions that go outside my home and again I am randy marsh, I like my physical media, I like the whole process of eating popcorn and picking a movie or a game off a shelf. I'm not even sure the window for getting that cheap is still there. I don't want a blade server in my basement, I'm sick of that shit.

You're just jealous of my blockbuster obsolete raid array battery hoarder. To the soldering iron cave batman. The effect of jeets on IT and the internet has been disasterous as you well know. Muh timesharing mainframe penny scimping always connected dystopia backed by sloppy code and worse testing. Using shitty old servers to hoard high seas treasures on SSDs is pure jeet though because they don't own rooms lined with media shelves, they live in them ten to a room clutching their fake CVs and fake degress.
>>
>>214397916
ight man do you. I've setup my little datacenter cabinet to be set it and forget it, I only go down there if an alarm sounds or im upgrading storage.

But yeah I've been archiving since the 90's, some of the digital music from release groups back in the days are not available anymore unless you frequent forgotten IRC hangouts. Most of the autist storage hoarders know that media versions also change year to year, so that TV show you remember being different is actually different. My late 90's early 2000's JAV porn collection you can't find anywhere is a good example of data that's disappeared on the net.
>>
>>214398146
It is what I see.
>>214398202
Do what is comfy for you but get it before it's gone. You don't want to wind up with the normies and zoomers outside of paywalls and on a VPN trying to download something at 9600 bps.

I am mainly after japanese classics from the 70s and 80s. Here are a few examples out of hundreds:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085757/
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0322118/?
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109430

Ironically some of them are even available on DVD before they're available on torrents.
>>
>>214398234
I really got into this when I bought the library of PS1 games from a video rental store that closed 20 years ago but I dived on the blockbuster plan about six or seven years ago when I saw a demo of a port mirror Jupiter router that could block torrents and frames off a hash blacklist that was generated in near realtime. At that point new sealed media was being sold off in bulk by weight

>>
>>214398295
cool yeah I've never done torrents, too slow for me and obviously traceable protocol. SSL and obfuscation is still king. Security through obscurity works. I've stuck with usenet and private release groups for years.

>>214398357
They had their day just like BBSs which were prime in their time, stuff would be up on them before it even got released and that's where most people got their first copy of the doom wads. Most people who read this thread will be going spastic at how physical media prices go up as supply shrinks and demand spikes, seen it all before from people who would not have taken a PS2 or 360 library for free and now seethe at prices. They only want things when they are not being thrown out. Same for DVDs and blue rays.

Sadly private trackers don't help against backbone packet sniffing and hash detection and they still rely on active seeders each to their own, if it relies on connectivity it's not dependable.. We know what happens with physical media from what has happened with game physical media repeatedly. Supply and demand. Last exit from the gift shop.

Sometimes what'll happen is a DVDRip gets uploaded nearly 20 years by someone who did a terrible job at encoding it because they're inept.
And then the internet is forever stuck with that unwatchable juddery shit-tier encoding since nobody ever bothers to replace it with a competently encoded file.

Ah, the usual AI demoralization thread for inexperienced zoomers. You get these sitewide now. Basically, piracy is alive and well and solves the streaming problem. Learn to torrent, IRC share and so on and on if you haven't by now. On a positive note AI slop shouldn't be watched in any capacity so only old pre-AI media has value. Nothing modern will be worth watching anyway.
>>
>>214396770
I have noticed that when shows come out, where all episodes drop the same day, you can't find torrents with all the episodes in them anymore. Now when a new show is out you have to download the episodes individually instead of with a season pack.

For example i like Fritz Lang movies but they are hard to find,i had like 4-5 of his movies on my pc,deleted them idk why and when i wanted to see them again a few of them werent there and the rest were with 0 seeders.

The point being, a quality rip done by a competent encoder is far more likely to come along in the future if the older, shitty-er rip didn't exist at all.
Lots of encoders will simply notice that an upload for a particular movie exists already and then simply move on to something else, never checking to see if the encoding job was any good or not.

everytime i tried a private tracker, they often had less overall torrents than the mainstream torrent website markets, and i got cutoff quickly every-single-time, because i would torrent 1-2 things max, get no seeding action (because i live in australia), then get cutoff. After one of you spergs said to;
>just waste your HDD space torrenting something popular and seed that
I did that, and got no seeds, because its popular so lots of people were seeding it, and it was a huge file too, so i got cutoff very quickly there.
Private trackers are a shitty meme sorry.

Not offically a torrent site so he isnt wrong.
>>
>>214406113
you were supposed to get it off a public tracker then seed it on a private, but either way its bullshit. private trackers are either supported by seedboxes or dying a slow death.
>>
>>214406113
I've only tried torrentleech, where you can either seed to a ratio of 1:1 or seed for 10 days. I rarely get any leeches connecting, so I just seed for 10 days. Sometimes it's a pain in the arse, but for most things I just rename the files and point the client to those.

unless you live in a country where piracy means prison time, all you're doing is offsetting the cost of storage space (read: 2 or 3 HDDs a decade) with a monthly fee, at absolute best.

I download extremely random and obscure shit daily without issue. Yesterday I got the 1990s Flinstones film in 2 minute download torrent. (Is it kino?)

Life is truly a mystery

>you were supposed to get it off a public tracker then seed it on a private
thats simply too complicated and annoying to deal with

>>214406241
on that note of censorship, has anyone got a fully uncensored, cinema-edition that isn't a disgusting camrip, of The Dictator with sacha baron cohen? that movie has had the most scenes and jokes ripped out of it i've ever seen, and nobody talks about it.

The Flintstones (1994) is your idea of an obscure film?
So you have no idea what's actually being discussed in this thread at all then.

I'm working at a grocery store right now, but this is my plan. I'm saving up to open my own torrent video store. Going torrent every movie I can find, put it in a case, open up a shop, provide it for free (so I don't get sued), and accept crypto donations. On the side, I'm going to watch fucking every movie in existence like Tarantino did and make a godtier indie flick and launch a director career. Have about $7,500 saved up so far, and I'm only 31.

You'll still get sued. If you give drugs away for free, you'll still get arrested.

so you're looking for movies from before psycho, when they'd just play movies on repeat and most people would never see them in their entirety because most people just went to the theater for newsreels?

I'm waiting for someone to upload the Italian DVD since that's the only way to watch it. Eventually I'll be the one who buys the DVD and uploads it. I've only had to do that a handful times though in 20 some odd years.

>non restaurato
ever consider this means its practically unwatchable?
>>
>>214409436
Unrestored or not, there's an mpeg2 video stream and and English AC3 audio track on that disc and I want it. My reasons for wanting it are not relevant, only that the disc exists and there's no way to torrent it.
>>
>>214409630
>and English AC3 audio track on that disc

You don’t know that.
