>>214397894>it's aged like fine conquistador wine>portrays false history where nobody knew the earth was a globeaged like milk
>>214397962Iirc it clearly explains they did it because they fucking knew the earth was a globe.
>>214397894Conquistador era wine would taste like vinegar today>>214398332Of course, the ancients knew the Earth was a globe. We've known for thousands of years. You only need to watch a ship sailing into the distance to see it disappear over the horizon in a way that means the surface of the earth is curved. The first Iberians to go into the Atlantic, the Portugese, did it in order to try and attack the Holy Land from the rear, as a continuation of the crusades. Afterwards it was about finding a route to Asia - because everyone knew the Earth was a globe - it was obvious to the people of the middle ages/renaissance that if you sailed west into the Atlantic you'd arrive in the Orient.
>>214398385>You only need to watch a ship sailing into the distance to see it disappear over the horizonIf I'm not mistaken it's a scene of this movie.
>>214398460I haven't seen the movie in question but that is an encouraging sign
>>214398385I miss KANGZ posting
>>214397962>nobody knew the earth was a globehe explains it to his young kid with an orange at the very start of the film
Not one of Scott’s best but it has good qualities, Wincott is always a decent villain, and this scene is one of the best visuals in a Ridley Scott film. A surprising amount of things in Alien Covenant felt like weird callbacks to this one
>>214400256that's what I'm saying. he explains it while depicting everyone else believing otherwise
>>214400256It's weird to hear Depardieu badly dubbing himself in French.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8kSASP39hU
>>214397894anti latinx movie, never post this again
>>214400321it wasn't common knowledge, it was fairly known between scholars and the educated classes, but it was hard to explain it to the lower classes that didn't care about the shapw of the world
>>214400854>it wasn't common knowledgeit was
>>214398385Yeah and to expand on that, the issue with Columbus' proposed expedition was never about "lmao the Earth is flat and you will fall down the edge" but about the voyage's lenght. People already had a fairly good estimate of the Earth's diameter since the ancient Greeks, they knew that China was too far away and that they would run out of fresh water halfway there. Columbus had to bullshit his way through and make his sponsors believe that the voyage would actually be shorter if they did x instead of y, and he was lucky that the new king and queen of Spain were still high on the reconquista and they didn't care that much if the people they were financing were all going to die.
>>214400315i remember depardieu being kind of clunky but ripley a good queen and the pictuers were lush and i liked the lingering of it. i saw a couple of those architectural wonders and they are a sight. the entire crew would have needed to be so insync with the tides, and to understand which sail to set into what direction, and to steer quickly and well for such a juggernaut to move for any kind of measurement that was taken from the stars, the craftmanship of an idea, long before it took into its element, to create something streamline and yet sturdy, but to hunger and bear on it like praying to an unforgiving god, i dont think anyone who felt it, would have liked to live on dryland.

>>214400951Well, first of all the main advantage of Columbus is that he knew the oceanic winds, that's why he sailed through south of the Canary Islands, secondly only the Queen supported the voyage, the king wanted to fight the Frenchs in Italy or whatever, that's why Columbus used the flag of Castile and not the one from Aragon or the Catholic Kings emblem, last but not least the first voyage was full of people from jail and things like that because nobody wanted to try to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Why did Europeans forget that the world was round? Even the ancient pagans knew that.
>>214401752Some did it, others no, remember that the greatest fear of the Celts was the sky falling on their heads.
It's really uneven. Great parts mixed with dull slog. Also top tier OST.https://youtu.be/7ufkMTshjz8?si=hp126DrmnfJ0YFFr
>>214400862How? It doesn't become public knowledge until reading becomes something the public can do. None of these pirate niggers could read.
>>214401752The judeochristian bible told them the world was a flat dome and to throw logic away to worship Jews and rabbi yeshua

>>214401830the Bible doesn't mention a specific shape of The Earth, you have references to maps like when it talks of the four corners and shits like that, you should know that the Bible was written in Greek, the Hinduism does it and other religions too.
>>214397962I still don't know it is - got any proof?
>>214401752>EuropeansYet Americans, in 2025 are the biggest believers in Flat Earth. Curious. I can forgive centuries old yuropeans who were uneducated retards, but Americans, in 2025 with the world at the fingertip with just a phone keep saying "STUPIDITY IS GOOD LIBTARD"
>>214402053actually Americans have been to the moonthe USA is the only country that has actual proof the world is round
>>214401735Interesting, thank you anon.
