Just off the top of my head, his performance in The Maltese Falcon is great and in spite of not doing all that much in it, The Patsy can arguably be counted as a Lorre joint.
>>
>>214405342
I didn't even remember him being in the Falcon lol

i still can't get over how good "the black narcissus" looks for a movie that was filmed on a sound stage in london

Daily effortpost (Limited edition)

Stroheim theatrical. The whole thing is hampered by several stage acts that are mid as fvck (except for the spider web one, that was great) but thankfully they show up after a fantastical first act. The main core of this film is the psychology of Gabbo; he is a tragic character, he tyrannizes others because of his inner disgraced turmoil as a washed up artist. Neurotic, superstitious and prone to bouts of histrionic anger. I think this one is a strange case of a low fidelity title translation actually working for good: the spanish title is 'El otro yo' (The Other Me), and it fits to the film like a ring to a finger. The dummy Otto works as an exteriorization of Gabbo's bicameral mind, of his ambiguous thoughts, sometimes it's hinted as if it was an alternative -more tender- split personality of his. Liked the little details in Stroheim's behavior, which betray his words of having changed. He lies to his love and he lies to himself, the tormented tyrant. 6.5/10

Agreed. He makes the most of his screentime for sure.
>>214405441
Well he's got more screentime in Falcon than Casablanca (which I could understand if anons don't remember Lorre being in because he's basically got an extended cameo).
Underrated and most unexpected Lorre joint: Silk Stockings (pic), the musical remake of Ninotchka with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse.

As a director?

Blind Husbands/Foolish Wives
The Wedding March
Queen Kelly
Greed
The Merry Widow
The Great Gabbo

Good film but subpar to his others imo. And you have to weigh in the fact that he was the co-director of James Cruze in Gabbo... in fact, Cruze was originally the only credited director.

It would be so funny if I became Adjani, but I don't think I have what it takes. But it would be funny.
Also, United Red Army (2007) is a wonderful example of an artist making sacrifices to create art.
>In order to make the film Wakamatsu mortgaged his home (which he destroyed in the movie) and distributed it himself.
The Jim O'Rourke soundtrack is stuck in my head.
