What did I just watch? Explain this movie to me like I'm a retard.
The town made him retarded
A crap film.
>>214405959>lynchNobody knows. Maybe David Lynch does. All his work is basically a confusing mindfuck.
>>214405959A man kills his wife and develops a split personality to cope
It's about a guy who kills his wife and invents a schizo headcanon to deal with it, inspired by the OJ trial. It's a shitty movie with nothing to explain. It's ideas would be done much better in Mulholland Drive.
>>214405997
>>214406019This right here is the gist of it. When it switches storylines to the younger guy that is his prison fantasy but parts of reality begin to seep into his delusional escape. Blake's character seems to be some manifestation of anger/jealousy that is inescapable for the main character in either world.
How do you not get the Lost Highway? It's like the most comprehensible of the LA trilogy.
I'm in your thread
>>214405959it's basically about OJ and Lynch wanted to have Patricia Arquette strip for a large audience
>>214406222Nah, Mulholland Dr is way more palatable and elaborates way more intensely in the last 20 minutes.
>>214406255>>214406045Where the hell are you getting the OJ shit from? Is this some meme I'm unaware of? Granted it's been awhile since I've seen this movie but nothing about this was screaming "black football star murders his wife in a mansion".
>>214406359lynch was obsessed with the oj trial
a Lynch movieyou watch a Lynch movie because you want to see that Lynch stuffand afterward you go "that sure was a Lynch movie" and then it changes you because a couple times a year you'll remember "I watched a very Lynchian movie"
>>214406359Lynch said so in an interview.
Time and time again plotfags get filtered by Lynch. It really is something to behold.
>>214405959>I'm a retardWe already knew that OP
>>214406592>>214406400Oh. Had no idea. Guess it's time for a rewatch with that in mind then.
>>214407249gottem
>>214405959The good thing about Lynch is that most of his movies are equally comprehensible to a genius as to a retard.
I think it's about a man with man issues. Wants to be younger. He cums too quickly (or doesn't cum at all). Thinks his wife is cheating on him. And it's all so big that he literally becomes another character. Not sure what the "director" creepy old guy was though. Was it Lynch's way of saying he's just projecting his own fears onto the character? Why does he have a camera at the end and is surprised to see him?
>>214407820It's almost like it doesn't make sense
>>214407820It's his conscience I think. At some point the main character says he doesn't like cameras because he likes to remember things his away, ie. making up the entire split personality. The creepy guy is always staring, sees right through him and finally films him as he truly is, breaking his coping fantasy. That's how I interpret it at least
>>214405959You expect a Hollywood product to sympathize with the bad guy, for there to be a twist that explains everything. Here, really, the story is very simple, and the bad guy is the bad guy
>>214406245That's fucking crazy, man.
>Fucker gets more pussy than a toilet seatwhat did lynch mean by this?
>>214408351Im in the thread right now
>>214408458Reply to me
>>214407820>Not sure what the "director" creepy old guy was though. He's the personification of the guy's jealousy and dark thoughts, call it what you will (the Devil, universal evil, etc.). Lynch literally spells it out for you>I'm in your house right now>It is not my custom to go where I'm not wanted
>>214405959No.
>>214407820>>214408168Fun fact, Robert Blake probably killed his wife irl
>>214405959lost highway is about how oliver stone and tarantino plagarized lynch with wild at heart and natural born killers
>>214408676
>>214407820>Not sure what the "director" creepy old guy was though>>214408692I agree with this anon 100%note that other characters see the mystery man but only Pullman seems to regard him as important. this is because everyone else is thinking 'that guy is weird" or 'that guy is full of himself", but Pullman knows, even if subconciously, what evil he is capable of.
>>214407820>He cums too quicklybig deal, who gives a shit. it's just jews trying to make you feel bad about yourself
>>214405959Its about a guy who snaps when his whore wife fucks around on him and kills her then has a schizo meltdown because he can't live with the reality. It isn't actually that complicated, it just filters plebs because it's told from the POV of the schizo and there's no exposition dump explaining what happened. The same people who claim this is inscrutable will watch Fight Club without an issue even though it's a similar premise because in Fight Club the schizo character sits down and explains to the audience step-by-step how it all works. >You're Tyler Durden>and so am I >you've been talking to yourself the whole timeBut Lynch hates that sort of hand-holding infodump. The guy in Lost Highway doesn't stop his schizo meltdown to break it down for the camera because it would be contrived and out of character and it's not really necessary if you're paying attention anyway. Lynch isn't even trying to confuse people here, he's been explicit about hat the film is trying to portray. It's just disorienting because it takes place in the head of a lunatic and he's disoriented most of the time. It's an unreliable narrator except the narrator isn't misrepresenting things intentionally. He's telling a distorted version because that's what he sees
>>214408168I think it's less his conscience than just his awareness of what he did manifesting in an unwelcome way because he's trying to suppress it but can't. He's pretending he doesn't know but he knows. He's "in his house'' because that's where the murder happened and he keeps reappearing because the memory is always just under the surface waiting to be acknowledged. He can never get away from it.
O.J. trial like everyone's already mentioned, and Lynch himself outed in an interview which is easily found and referenced on the film's iMDB page, but it's also a massive effort to shit on Tarantino and Stone for stealing from him:>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAi2ehBBw7MThe tailgating scene is the most blatant diss of all of it:>hyperviolence committed by guys in suits over some absurdity>snappy dialog regarding highway safetyIt could've been an outtake from Reservoir Dogs.I also suspect that's why Jim Belushi was cast in TPTR.
>>214406245>>214408351>>214408458>>214408676>>214408819kek it's kino
>>214408756That fact doesn't seem fun at all.
>>214408168It's the devil, doing what the devil traditionally does, ie, the devil of Master and Margarita and not evil bad guy fir no reason. The devil is like a detective and prosecutor who identifies sinners.

Imagine sucking Arquette’s big pale milky naturals. Worst Lynch but best tits. I guess it’s about that nigga OJ too…I hate that Henry Rollins shows up. Contemptible faggot that he is
>>214408692Also don't forget how he opens the conversation>We've met before haven't weIn reference to him already killing Dick Laurent several days prior and now he has the same murderous hatred towards his wife because nothing really changed.
