>tv works great, looks good
>find out I need a 4k, 120hz, dolby atmos + vision
>feel pressured to buy a new TV
Honestly, is a 60hz tv really that bad? Or is upgrading worth it?
>>
I just use a cheap projector and a white sheet on the wall. Looks big and brilliant even while the sun's out
>>

Meant to post this on /v/, but fuck it.
>>
>>214407515
I also run my audio through and amp/dac to headphones.
>>
>>214407455
Why do you need 4k?
>>
>>214407455
The best TV you can possibly get is a late model panasonic plasma.
They have the black levels of OLED but none of the motion blur.

No current tech can match it.
>>
>>214409057
Why did they stop making them?
>>
>>214409144
Because they require 15 times the power.
>>
>>214409873
shit
>>
>>214409144
>>214409873
Also it's like having a fireplace on in the room, cozy in winter but brutal in summer.
>>
>>214407455
>120hz
Pointless for movies, because most modern televisions automatically switch to a 24hz mode when watching 24fps content anyway.
>>

interesting q-uads

>4k, 120hz, dolby atmos + vision
how much (properly mastered) media is there really worth watching that justifies it.
>>
>>214407455
There's nothing wrong with a 1080p 60hz TV since literally every piece of media has been designed for 1080p 60hz for the last 20 years. If you ever upgrade get a projector.
>>
>>214410592
Almost none. Like probably 0.02% of currently available 4k movies.
>>
>>214407455
No
>>
>>214410592
>4k
Only good if it's a proper 35mm/70mm scan
>120hz
Pointless for movies, pointless for games.
>Dolby Atmos
Almost NOBODY has a fucking 15 speaker set up for this trash that according to several Atmos reviewers it's totally hit and miss
>Vision/HDR
Bullshit artificial post processing that makes everything look worse. I don't understand WHY they keep pushing this shit. It's not going to display properly on most TVs, and most OLEDs are not bright enough to do HDR properly and LCD/LED/Projectors only emulate it.
>>
I wish they could invent a slim CRT.
>>
What's 60 herz ?
>>
>>214410803
>120hz

No it isn't retard
>>
>>214409144
They are heavy, expensive, power hungry, and prone to ghosting
>>
>>214410903
Physics prevents it
They made flat screen ones for a while though. We had a 1080i flat screen CRT in high school

Depends if you are just buying a tv for a bedroom and dont care that much 60hz is fine. If you want the best tv for kino it should be a 120 or 240hz. If you know anything about 3:2 pulldown and how 24fps movies are shown on 60hz TV it involves repeating frames at an uneven rate since 60 does not divide evenly by 24. When you have a display that can display frames at a smooth rate you can tell and they look smoother without the scourge of digital motion smoothing.

Yeah I have one of those that I use almost exclusively to play N64/Dreamcast/PS2 etc. era and older games and watch betamax tapes on, thing has the depth of a fucking fridge. The image looks great but it weighs an absolute ton too.
>>
>>214410903
Closest I had was a 20inch Sylvania with a "flat" tube. I still have it somewhere.

3:2 pulldown hasn't been an issue on televisions for over a decade now. Modern televisions automatically lower their refresh rate when watching 24fps content, so no 3:2 pulldown is needed.

Yeah, it took me years to adjust to TVs being generally light

>Just use it to watch old 480p seinfeld episodes

i have a 4K 60 hz tv from TCL actually like in your pic and its good enough. why would i need more ?
>>
>>214410803
>>120hz
>pointless for games.

Even if you're a retard that doesn't think anything above 60 matters, 120hz still lets you do 40hz games and often comes with variable refresh rate
>>
>>214413031
this, I have a 32" RCA made in 1999 that I watch Laser discs and video tapes on sometimes
