STAS is a more than solid show. Not as great as the Batman show, but still pretty good

Clancy Brown's Lex Luthor, however, is one of the greatest villains in any medium ever. Every bit as good as the Mark Hamill Joker, and better than any of the live action Luthors, by far. The definition of a character who exceeded the creators's expectations. For example, they did a body swap episode in Justice League, intending to capitalize on Michael Rosenbaum playing Lex Luthor in Smallville while voicing The Flash. Instead, Clancy Brown was so hilarious voicing Wally West in Lex's body, that the episode became more about his performance. And the show runners admitted that Lex pretty much became the central antihero of the final season of Justice League Unlimited

The writing on TAS is annoyingly simplistic. I don't hold that against it, it's literally a cartoon for 10-12 year olds, but I always hear about how it's secretly incredibly mature and it's not. I think the gorgeous animation, the moody and sombre tone, and the occasionally baroque dialogued tricked people into overrating the actual writing. Admittedly I haven't watched a lot of TAS, but my impression is that TLA was conceptually more interesting and had more to say.
