In Alien Resurrection at the end of the Special Edition directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet indicated there had been a devastating planetary event regarding the Xenomorph on Earth. Why was there never a follow up or sequel in relation to the Ripley clone character Sigourney Weaver had developed?

A lot of people shit on Resurrection yet there were plenty of interesting elements that could have expanded the series in a fresh new direction.

Clone ripley was sexy.

Those old white men who fight each other for credit for the Alien script . None of them knew how to do an Alien movie with Ripley .

>planetary event regarding the Xenomorph on Earth

Doubtful, or they wouldn't have needed to clone Ripley to bring the species out of extinction.
>>

Maybe they did too good of a job of killing the xenomorphs?

Resurrection was a huge flop at the box office and Weaver/Ryder didn't help matters reenacting the Crawford/Davis feud while filming, after Weaver found out that Fox was instructing the director to focus more on Ryder with the explicit instructions that they wanted Ryder and her character to become the new face of the franchise, not Weaver/Ripley going forward.

I always thought that earth was just a shit hole at the end because they'd abandoned it for outer space. Ripley had been through so much after that movie I think it'd be better to let her character rest.

because prequelshit faggotry
only sequels are canon
continue the story or fuck off, hacks

I'm pretty sure theres a novel that was released in mids2000s about RipleyClone and Call on Earth.

Yes, the giant fucking spaceship that crashes on Earth sent by Ripley herself, a ship that big would cause an extinction level event
>>
>>214415036
no it wouldn't it was a slow crash
>>
>>214415055
>it was a slow crash
>slow
>A spaceship coming from outer space on autopilot
You're the one who's slow

It released on the same day as Titanic.
It matters, because Titanic was such a cultural sensation and a box office draw that many cinema operators had literally every theater dedicated to Titanic showings. If you were any other movie at the time you would have been slaughtered too.
>>
>>214415092
yes they have to slow down well in advance
>>
Doesn't Resurrection take place much farther in the future than the other films? Earth looked like Arrakis. Probably lifeliess.
>>
>>214412050
It’s a horrible fucking movie anon

The ruined earth is a deleted scene but the actual plot of the movie was that Ripley intended to accelerate the ship into earth to cause a fatal crash to SAVE earth by ensuring no living xenos land. Ron Perlman also doesn't want to go there because "it's a fucking slum"

I think we have to take it that Earth might be Mad Max style but there's still millions of people living there

>Joss Whedon had written an Earth-set script for Alien 5, but Sigourney Weaver was not interested in this setting and sought to return the story to the planetoid from the first film. Weaver has remained open to a role in a fifth installment on the condition that she likes the story.[59] Before 20th Century Fox greenlit Alien vs. Predator, James Cameron had been collaborating on the plot for a fifth Alien film with another writer.
>At the 2014 Hero Complex Film Festival, Sigourney Weaver hinted that she would be interested in returning to the role of Ripley, saying: "Had we done a fifth one, I don't doubt that her humanity would have prevailed. I do feel like there is more story to tell. I feel a longing from fans for the story to be finished. I could imagine a situation where we finish telling the story."[64] She was quoted: "I don't think Alien belongs on Earth popping out of a haystack, which is where I was afraid it was going to go. I feel it should take place in the far reaches of the universe where no one in their right mind would go. There are very few filmmakers that I can think of that I would want to entrust this to."[65]

>Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the makers of Independence Day and Godzilla, have been hired to write and direct Alien 5.
> Jeunet was asked to direct but turned it down since he felt a new director should be used every time. Other possible directors include Ridley Scott, Luc Besson, and Vincenzo Natali.
