BB and BCS have flawed heroes in Chuck and Hank which ultimately end up being completely right. Jimmy should have been in jail or genuinely forced to go straight with no rule bending and Walt should have taken the Grey Matter offer and maybe had more days out with Hank (not raiding meth labs though) to regain his masculinity.

Breaking Bad was played as a straight dark comedy before it got more serious. BCS is serious from the start

This is stylistic to represent how even at it's worst the BCS time period is far calmer compared to BB. That's why the show also lacks the characteristic handheld camera filiming method. BCS is meant to be a dark downfall story during a period of relative prosperity in the New Mexico underworld whereas BB is Walt coming in and destroying the entire underground through his wiles.
