I was recently watching reactions to Forrest Gump and there was something that surprised me. At the end when he's reunited with Jenny for the last time and Jenny tells him she's sick, a lot of reactors seem confused and are like, "Huh? What's she got?" and are surprised that Jenny dies. None of the other historical events portrayed in the film seem to create the same level of confusion. Are young people today really unaware of the significance of the AIDS epidemic and how many people used to die from illnesses like Hepatitis from sharing needles and sleeping around? I thought these were well known things, but I guess maybe they're forgotten now.

They are probably more surprised by the fact she got sick at all, since they find it weird that an empowered woman that fucks a whole town would get sick from that

Tom hanks is woke

Did she catch it after fucking Forrest and having a kid? It's been a while since I've seen the movie.

Yeah, Jenny doesn't really fit the modern idea of a "strong independent" woman. She only lived the way she did because she had a lot of issues from childhood. A lot of diseases that people can get from that kind of lifestyle are curable, or at least manageable these days. But it wasn't that long ago really that a lot of people died from them. The AIDS epidemic in particular was a big deal and had a major impact on American culture at the time (probably other countries too). But the historical context seemed to go over reactors' heads.

OP has AIDS

It isn't clear that she has it until after having his kid. Thouhg I suspect she already had HIV and he was lucky she didn't give to him, because I think she'd mellowed out by then and wasn't living the same way.

No woman is 'living the same way" when there's a retarded rich man to exploit
When Forrest was poor she was shoving as much Black Panther and Grateful Dead cock in her sniz as you could reasonably achieve in a day
But once she smelled that money all of a sudden she was a calm, centered adult who just wanted what's best for her kid (i.e. she gets all the money)

Honestly? Pretty much.
Between modern prophylaxis and HIV treatments, plus overcompensation for past stigma towards gay men (remember monkeypox and how many people REFUSED to admit that hey maybe you shouldn’t have unprotected anal with tons of strangers?) the modern zoomer just straight up doesn’t understand how bad the AIDS crisis was.

I guess that makes sense. Just surprised me because it was before my time too, but I guess I was close enough to it to still have heard about it and seen references to it in television in film. Didn't realize it was disappearing from the national conciousness.
