How do you feel about scooby-doo (franchise)?
>>
>>214416820
kino of the highest order
>>
>>214416820
the seemingly supernatural always turns out to have a rational explanation, based and reality pilled
>>
>>214416820
scrappy is annoying, everything without him is 10/10
>tfw no Thorne gf
>>
>>214416858
I just ignore everything with Scrappy and redshirt Shaggy
>>
>>214416858
>>214416876
what about when scooby/shaggy/scrappy become teachers at the girls school thats pretty based
>>
Watched a lot when I was a kid. I always had a fondness for the hunted places designs. Also once I won a package of chocolates in Copacabana because I answered correctly that the name of the "blonde dude" was Fred. Those kids never had a chance.
>>
>>214416907
I probably never gave it a chance
>>
I'm not a burger so i don't care at all.
>>
Hanna Barbera made our childhoods.
Anons who have kids: do you show these old cartoons you used to watch to your kids or are they so completely lost in YouTubeslop that you never had the chance?

I loved watching the original cartoon as a kid.
I downloaded all of the episodes for nostalgia a few years ago, but then I realized that they have an obnoxious laugh track that constantly plays.
As a kid I guess it didn't bother me, but now it is a bit insufferable.
>>
>>214417191
watch the second series "the scooby doo show" its like the original but higher quality animation and no laugh track
>>
>>214416820
I used to watch Scooby Doo! all the time as a kid. Even though we always knew who the bad guy was, it was just so much fun. The animation style was brilliant. Hanna Barbara was easily on par with Disney and Warner Bros for a long time.
>>
>>214417019
If I had kids I would unironically raise them like mennonites
>>
>>214417123
still would

Scooby doo the way God intended:
>zombie island
>witch's ghost (hex girls)
>alien invaders
>(optional) cyber chase
>live action movies 1 & 2
>Whats new scooby doo series
>maybe some of the what's new scooby doo derivative movies like loc Ness monster and pirates ahoy
Pretty much everything that brings the gang into the new millennium while still having a timeless feel. The original show should be appreciated for existing, but it's a bit dated and boring for my taste.
>>
>>214417290
mystery inc is the best modern scooby show by a mile. and maybe the best period
>>
>>214417123

The animation for these movies was always pretty gud

>>214417290

>live action movies 1

I should give this a rewatch. When I first saw it as a kid my parents hated it especially the scene where Scooby and Shaggy are having a farting competition.
>>
they gave daphne an insane figure in scooby doo and guess who
>>

I still hear "I'M GONNA FUCKEN' DO ET SHEGGEH" in my head from time to time.

>>
>>214417307
There it is. Mystery Inc is on par with the original. Original is dated but is kino. Look at these fucking guys and tell me this isn't perfection.
>>
>>214418256
fuck man that's the good shit
>>
>>214418256
I think four of those guys are from The Scooby-Doo Show, which still had top tier atmosphere.
>>
>>214417019
My kids love Scooby Doo. All of them. The only modern cartoons they watch are Paw Patrol and Bluey. Both of them piss me off but I cave in a little so when they're at their co-op school or at homeschool events they can talk about it with their friends.
>>
>>214418294
I think you're right actually but still, amazing designs and colors. The Scooby Doo Show isn't that good to me but it did keep the art which I enjoy immensely.
>>
>>214417307
>hey fred you want some head?
>no way fag I gotta plan this trap
fred was based in that one
>>
>>214418307
Bless them. Good kids, growing up with kino of the higher order. What else have you shown them? Beast Wars? Spiderman? Road Runner? Justice League? I imagine I can take Tom and Jerry for granted. Hope there's some love there for Wacky Races too, those were the days
>>
>>214418386
They like Spiderman: The Animated Series but not Batman or Superman or Justice League. Kinda odd. I don't know if they'd appreciate Beast Wars like they should because the graphics would be so dated. At least with drawn cartoons, even if they're old, it's still a cartoon. Does that make sense? They're only 7 and 5 so there's plenty more for them to see when they get a little older. We don't let them watch just whatever and they don't really watch a lot of TV at all.
>>
>>214418510
Good parents. And good for you, bro.
>Does that make sense?
Absolutely. Even I had trouble revisiting some memories when it came to Beast Wars or Action Man. lol
>>
>>214416820
even as a kid I thought it was really lame. It's far too formulaic.
>>
>>214416858
I don’t get the Scrappy hate. We know the villains are never really monsters so there’s no reason to runaway like little bitches all the time.
>>
>>214418574
Sometimes they seem very unhinged. Running away is the smart option. Also if you take the movies as canon, there is weird stuff going on in their universe.
>>
>>214418546
Appreciate that man. We try hard. They don't do video games, tablets, etc. They do a lot of reading and playing outside.

Apart from the Zombie Island one, which ones would you recommend? I've seen most of what aired on the television and those old celebrity cameo movies.
>>
>>214419412
Witch's Ghost is right up there with Zombie Island, anon. As far as shows go, What's New and Mystery Inc. are both pretty great, for different reasons. What's New is a pretty good updating of the original concept, while Mystery Inc. actually has a story arc and character progression and stakes and shit you wouldn't believe from a Scooby-Doo series (in a good way).
>>
>>214419457
>Witch's Ghost
peak! quite possibly why I have a thing for goth girls.

I never saw it, anon you've convinced me to check it out

>>
>>214416820
Not a fan. It's pretty degenerate. Out to say everything but making things fake is fake.
>>
>>214419523
>Tell me more!
Well, I don't want to give away too much, as having this stuff revealed to you is half the fun, but the gang's home town has always had a history with weird shit (think like Sunnydale from Buffy), and it turns out they aren't the first mystery solving team the town has been home to. Also, the monsters are much more serious and deadly than usual (yes, even the ones that are just people in costumes), and there are a ton of references to horror/sci-fi/monster movies. Plus there's a lot of character drama amongst the team at times. It's pretty much the only example of "Make the kids thing dark and serious" that I can think of that actually WORKED (in my opinion).

>>214416820
It's extremely repetitive and pretty stupid conceptually, but my kids love it so it's okay by me. Every main character added after the original main cast of 5 sucks.
>>
>>214419700
The concept of real ghosts is fundamentally oxymoronic to the concept of Scooby Doo.
>>
>>214418256
Where are You? has a general tone and atmosphere that cannot be matched. It's this sort of quiet and relaxed but still dreadful and unsettling setting. Courage the Cowardly Dog is the closest thing to hitting it. Mystery Inc is a solid show, but it just lacks that for me. A lot of people like to jerk it off for having monstes that feel scary and threatening, but to me it just ends up feeling more like an action cartoon.
>>
>>214419719
It's obviously and undeniably an inferior by-the-numbers show but most of the animation I've been seeing since the 90s is so ugly and repulsive on every level I just want something normal.
>>
>>214419868
>i love schlock nom nom nom at least it's old and covered in mildew
>>
Witch's Ghost is notable for introducing the Hex Girls - the franchise's only recurring characters outside of the main five and Scrappy.
>>
>>214419897
It's not schlock. It's just cartoon for children. What did you watch when you were young?

something about evil landlords trying to scare people away so they can develop their land strikes me as being antisemitic
>>
>>214419811
At my house. Mystery Inc is good because the jokes don't feel so dated so it's more relatable. I can appreciate old jokes but sometimes I just like "Fucking hell this show really is old." but I do agree it's less soulful. Oh, but I do think cartoon babes are hot.

Kids love whatever you present to them. Of course lots of parente have already ruined their brood by giving them access to screens way too fucking early and they're fucked for life and don't have the ability to pay attention to anything anymore, but if you don't have a dopamine blown out child they like hand drawn cartoons just fine. My sister had a teen pregnancy and her kid is a teen now and she hates CGI and computer generated stuff and loves the older cartoons.

Of course, a large part of it was my influence, since I basically was her babysitter/older brother and I made sure she only saw the most kino of kino children's entertainment.

When I was a kid I always thought these HB cartoons looked cheap, but really compared to this unending Calarts/JeetGI nightmare these cartoons were visual masterpieces. I still have the VHS for the Shark Island episode and it's actually impressive just how good everything in it looks. Even fucking movies don't have this level of blocking and composition and lighting anymore.
>>

>>
>>214416820

I think Velma has soured the name so much nobody wants anything to do with Scooby Doo
between that and some live action direct to dvd movies like the mystery begins and daphne & velma trying desperately to retell how the kids met and modernize it honestly I just don't think anyone should try and make a new series. I mean they took the original and updated them to flash I believe instead of hand drawn and it lasted 2 seasons
scooby works best when its just a one off collaboration: scooby meets kiss, scooby meets bobby flay, scooby meets WWE, small scale quick and easy recognizable characters
are zoomers going to know who KISS or bobby flay are? probably not, but some boomers will likely watch it and likely millenials as well
