He got into moviemaking because he was interested in the techincal aspects of photography and film and later video recording of images. But he hated the buisness side. Producers in particular comming in and insisting on changes was something he could never get over or forgive. Collaboration with actors and lighting and camera and sound people was fine, because they were in it too, but a studio person even wanting to be on set killed the vibe and the moment they started insisting on changes it tended to kill his interest in a project entirely. So he was interested in digitial video as a replacement for film, despite all it's limitations, because it could reduce the need for funding, and thus the people that provide the funding putting their fingers into the work. And AI is interesting to an artist for the same reasons. The lower cost and accessibility means more people can make more stuff with less oversight and interference from above. It doesn't mean there are no issues with it, but there are issues with the mining processes that produce the metals that make a camera too, for one example. That doesn't mean anything made with a camera is tainted forever by it's assocation with explotative extraction.
