>>214420954comics are trash and have been for a very long time. no one wants to follow a character the like and see them either ruined by being passed around by dogshit writer and artists or shelved cause the current editor doesn't like the character. and unlike manga, which follows a coherent (usually) plot and narrative from beginning to end, comics just maintain status quo so there's no real stories to tell anymore.
I've tried so many times to get into demon slayer. But it's so boring that I can't sit through more than 2 episodes before wanting to drop it. Yet I still feel like it deserves a chance 'cause its so massively popular. Surely that means it must be good, right? But it's not good.

cell phones and the internet have replaced comic books in the US as the "idle activity to do when bored" over the last 40 or so years. However manga is much more entrenched in Japanese culture as one of their "things" so they have healthy sales still.

Anime is still created under the ‘Rule of Cool’ premise, which is that the highest virtue a work can have is that it is fun and entertaining. Contrast this to western media, which is largely a political/ideological mouthpiece first and entertainment second. Anime doesn’t ask the question “what if we made a beloved character black to cure racism?”, it asks “what if we made a beloved character?”
