I respect and despise this movie in equal measure because it's essentially a long pity party for Kaufman's self-insert but since he himself is aware of his own shortcomings and deals with them in the movie, despite the movie itself being a product of Kaufman's neuroticism, it can be shielded from many criticisms. It is quite clever
