>>214461038I'd rather write my screenplays organically.
I wrote the great scripts already. All I need now is the cigar chomping womanizing cokehead producer with a lot of money and balls. (do they exist anymore?)
>>214461148What's the best screenplay you have?
>>214460853I'm writing a comedy about a token black man living in a progressive city who gets falsely accused of raping a woman (originally a little girl, but aged her). The black man, knowing no one will believes him no matter the proofs, decides to do the best thing. Admits he did it (despite being innocent), but says he only did it because the woman called him the n-word. The town gets divided about whom they should support.

>>214461617Pretty much yeah. Just a parody of all those “romance” movies like the notebook, and etc from the POV of the dude getting shafted. What happens to him after the couples “happily ever after”? Would be neat to explore
>>214460853I read John Trubys book at the start of the year and that has helped me a lot. It's nothing like writing a song where you can write a hit by closing your eyes and just banging it out. At least for me.
>>214461709Word of caution, Truby fucked me up for a while thinking I could boil a story outline down with a formula. Those scripts were awful and I didn't write anything good until I threw it all out and wrote from my gut instinct. There is no formula.
>>214461709Are you working on anything right now? Yes or no is fine, you don't have to tell details.
>>214461745The formula usually is "Whatever works for you." If they didn't tell you that, you're around the wrong people.
I'm thinking of writing a novella or screenplay about me epic liminal spaces deadmall 90s nostalgia where some hacker guy in an urban wasteland reminisces about the manic pixie dream girl he knew before she ODd on drugs and he was in love with her, so he's trying to steal some corporate nanotech to basically bring her back to life, except when he does after multiple missions impossible sequences to get the components, he realizes she's actually an annoying bitch and his nostalgia is a load of bullshit. He kills himself, and she ends up becoming a whore hooked on the latest OnlyFans VR bullshit. I feel like I just want to write it because I think about an old oneitis who I literally fell for because she reminded me of my childhood and now a few years later I have no fucking idea why I liked her. And I am miserable so I think about le epic 90s nostalgia to cope, except I just went a week without a phone waiting for a replacement part to fix it myself like a Jeet, and it made me realize it's irreversible to go back to that life at all.
>>214461808That sounds a lot like an idea I had that will forever be scrapped. Yours had more going for it though.
>>214461748Yeah I am, I've got two horror ideas as that's all I'm interested in. The main one I'd describe as being about a local cryptid that nobody has covered yet. >>214461745Appreciate the advice. He comes across as a "every film a Speilberg" kind of guy which I'm not aiming for so I take it with a grain of salt. Horror tends to have it's own rules but it helps to have an idea what a normal film even looks like. I sat down and have been mapping a bunch of films and that helps too. I think The Evil Dead is basically perfect as a possession template.
>>214461038>I look forward to never being good at anything in my lifeI really don't understand you AIfags. Your spite towards strangers mixed with some kind of left-over 90s tech optimism. I'd advise you to make it a more universal kind of satire, topical stuff ages weekly nowadays.>>214460884>like OMG, reallyfuck off moronAlmost finished with my Jonah Hex script, kinda threw my Lafcadio Hearn script in the trash after I found out there's already a new project about him. >>214461854Do you think I should write it?And if so, as a screenplay or novella? Visual aesthetics are harder to carry across in a novel and the deadmall vaporwave aesthetic is an important part of it to me. So a screenplay is easier / better in that regard. But at the same time a novella or just prose in general feels more "pure" to me as artistic expression. So I don't know what to focus on.
>>214462094My policy is always "Question whether you should write something? Fucking do it."How many scenes do you have thought out? Because sometimes it may not fit as a screenplay.
>>214461978Thanks anon. I am humble and happy just to do it as a creative exercise. A while back I wrote a rough outline for a film about a neanderthal that was hunting the last tribe of humans. And then like a year later, a film with that plot came out. It sucked but it made me feel like my ideas weren't crazy.Have you been writing anything? Any things that keep you productive?
>>214462258I've been working on a 4th screenplay that is a Christian fantasy film. It's kind of hard to get into without someone asking what the twist is, so I keep it vague.

Wrote a feature and got turned down for a grant. Shooting a condensed short of the feature this Fall and will use that to pitch for a grant again.I wrote the feature to be fairly budget conscious, so on the side I like to write other films that aren't feasible but are still fun to work on.Wrote a sequel to the 80s Blob film where the Blob tears a plane in half and the 2 blobs combine into a mega blob at the end of the film.Wrote a Spiderman movie called Spiderman: Retirement Home about Peter Parker moving into a retirement home and having to figure out who is hypnotizing the elderly/retirees.

homeless people who fall in love, but due to their circumstances their relationships falls apart. classic tale of meeting the right person at the wrong time. i need clout in my local area if i want to get some decent actors for it. i’m kinda working on a skateboarding movie (40ish min with skits). the skits will break or make it.
I'm writing a Johnny Depp biopic but have no clue how to contact an agent and have him read it. I was thinking of letting Brad Pitt star as Depp but it's kinda awkwards since both of them are alive, still.
I wrote a slasher film script that I later decided was pure ass, so nothing will one of that. I also had a body horror script that cannot be made because I don't have the budget for the animatronic (I even went to a convention and got some quotes, you know what a fucking puppet costs?) but at this point I think it's better to write for fun. Working on a sort of Sword and Sorcery script just for pleasure now. I still have fantasies of doing a ultra low budget horror flick but I need to wait for inspiration to strike, and anyway I've never filmed shit in my life so it's just a fantasy to round up some community college students and make them act - I'd definitely fuck it up. Can you imagine making a movie though? How fucking cool. Throw that shit on Tubi or Hulu. They'll take anything. I ain't going to no festival.
I wrote a script about some mob guy who's assassin and he like meets a girl on a wedding. Turns out she's married but he hits her husband killed and they get married. Trouble is he's a mob and she's also a hitman, so when she gets contract on killing her new husband she tells him straight on, and then it becomes a duel, knife vs gun, she misses and he kills her. Then he goes back and marries the mob boss daughter. I'm thinking I'm gonna star my own daughter as own of the characters and her old boyfriend as the hitman.
+1
I'm almost fucking done. Woo, after like a few months.
>>214460884I did it just to know I could do itThe odds of getting a script read without representation or connections, much less selling one, are so stunningly slim that I basically gave up on the idea of ever doing it for a living. But at least I know I can write a solid functioning script that I'm proud of.
A brasilian mother forces her son to film her porno scenes, this goes on for a while and midway through the son realizes one of the males in bukkake scene could be his own brother so he goes>hey hombre>hey hermanio!!and then the mom stops in the middle of the jizzening>son, wtf r u doin? keep shootin methen the next half of the movie is about the son visiting a freudian slip, and the psychiatric writes down the stories thinkin it'd be a cool script for a novel or a movieit all ends with "true story" - written by the mother to earn money for the funeral of her son

A movie starring a young Greek man living in poverty. The first half of the movie would be about how he and his family is poor due to the generational trauma of Greek being colonized by Turks 200 years ago. There would be flashbacks to those times, depicting Muslim Turks raping Greek women, forcing Greeks to convert to Islam, etc. Then the protagonist gets a lucky break - he saves a tourist from drowning, and the tourist turns out to be a wealthy Russian businessman who rewards him with enough money to fulfil his dream - move to America and enroll in college. In the second half of the film, he struggles to adapt to life in America. His Jewish history professor assigns his class to write an essay about colonialism. He writes a paper about the Ottoman colonization of Greece, and his professor fails him and tells him that only whites can be colonizers. Later, while walking alone, a Jewish Antifa student attempt to assault him for the paper. The assailant is portrayed as short, ugly, and scrawny, and he kicks the shit out of them. He swallows his pride and writes some paper he doesn't care about and passes his history class, along with all others. While walking alone again, he is ambushed, sucker punched and killed by a black man who was paid off by Antifa. At the black mans trial for murder, his Jewish lawyer attempts to get a lenient sentence by claiming that his client was suffering from generational trauma caused by slavery. The prosecution then brings in some surprise testimony from the murdered Greeks father, who was paid to be flown to the trail by the Russian businessman from earlier. The father tells of his sons life in detail, including his family's history of oppression. The jury is moved and convicts the black man of first degree murder and life in prison. The black man then snitches on the Jewish Antifa kid who paid him. The movie ends with the execution of the two men, found guilty of murder.

>>214470972Probably. You can't put it directly on there, but depending on how well it does on the festival circuit it's likely any sort of distribution will end up with it on there.I'm still holding out hope that I'll be able to get it into cannes and get picked up by neon or someone - yes I know I sound delusional
>>214471066What kind of film is it?
>>214471013bruh, that's not cap
>>214471066i've talked with a lady that does coaching re film festivals, and she says while it's not bad to aim for the higher-tier festivals, you really gotta start down in the more local shit first and get some buzz before you have the ability to enter shit like TIFF, Cannes, Sundance etc
I'm getting there. I got lots of progress done last weekend, I'm hoping to get a chunk of it done this weekend. Although as I write it, I'm finding myself wanting to change my outline up as new ideas and connections form.
>>214471089Horror/thriller.I've made 2 crime dramas. The second one has done alright, gearing up for a vod release soonish, and I think I've learnt enough to make something great. But I only really realised/acknowledged right before shooting the second one that the only way "in" for truly indie films is to make a horror film. So I've taken a pretty generic concept (group of youths being antisocial clash with a serial killer) and applied some obvious Refn motifs and hopefully it results in something awesome.>>214471173Yes and no. When talking about features, the big festivals want premieres. It's impossible enough to get into cannes. Getting into cannes with a film that's already premiered isn't even a consideration. Tiff you technically have a chance. But not at this level. Tiff will only take a film that's gotten buzz somewhere like Cannes or Venice. Not a film that's gotten a good review at Smalltown Beer & Cider Arts Festival. The midtier fesetivals absolutely care a lot about that sort of thing though. It's a really messy world, festivals. Largely pointless. A lot of ways to burn money. It depends what you're going for really.
>>214471254you can screen at cannes out of competition, they're a lot more lax with those entriesbut again, you aren't getting into cannes unless you've really got something special and up their alley
>>214471231I basically just outline the major events and main characters in the story and i never really feel like altering them, i just go writing chapter by chapter, and if i have new ideas i can go back, revise the full text and introduce new things, maybe even create an entire chapter i hadn't planned out. But that's just what works for me, and it only begins to work once you digest the idea and know what you want to do with it, and for me it may take months before i can write confidently.
>>214471363I outlined each scene for the movie because I was having problem with the ending. Yeah, maybe I'm sticking to it too much. If I can get it down, it will definitely be original if nothing else.
A film about anime fans. They get together, watch anime and drink beer.
>>214471292>you aren't getting into cannes unless you've really got something special and up their alleySee this is it. I'm semi confident that I can deliver something genuinely great. I just worry that it won't be risky enough for them. They really reject 'mainstream' films. And a lot of the time that translates to 'films general audiences would actually enjoy' (not always, there are loads of cannes films I love). I'm not going to risk something overly arthouse for the sake of trying to get in, knowing that if it didn't I'd have a film that would basically be forgotten within weeks.Like I'd much rather make The Departed than You Were Never Really Here. Ah well, see what happens.
>>214471431>>214471231I find that often, to finish a script, at some point you have to put your foot down and stop toiling with alternate paths and just commit to events playing out in a certain way. And that way can be arbitrarily picked if you find yourself struggling to make a decision. And often that leads to those alternate ideas resurfacing in whatever I write next. I've got a short film where a character asks a sarcastic question and the other responds with "no" followed by a short threat. I've got a feature where a character asks the same question and the other responds with "yes" followed by a monologue. It's a fun reference for people who do watch my stuff, and it lets me explore different ideas without getting stuck.
>>214471536True, I just need to finish the damned thing. I'm gonna have to rewrite the rough draft anyways. I WILL write a movie script.
>>214471492i mean if you've got a kickass team and can deliver a tight kino then you should just say fuck it and go for the goldafter all quentin was able to get his shit screenedlikewise raimi was able to get evil dead played at cannesif they can do it you can too so long as you have jewish connections anon>>214471576speaking from personal experience, the best thing you can do is just write all your dumb ideas out no matter how wack they are, and then refine itdo this several times and you'll become better at writing and be able to writer longer pieces as well
>>214460853This is my logline.Title: "The Dusk Squad"Type: FeatureGenre: Noir/FantasyLogline: In 1930's L.A. when a body drained of blood is found, a rookie police detective must work with vampires on both sides of the law to rescue a missing actress. I have finished the first draft and I am letting it rest until I start correcting.I guess I will write a novel with the story because I doubt I can sell it but it was a great experience writing it.
>>214471778change the title, people will think it's a sequel to gangster squad
>>214471845No way, it's a sequel to Police Squad but it has Vampires.
>>214471883ok so you're saying frank drebin investigates vampires? that can be marketed very easily, i'm assuming you'll want liam neeson in this?
>>214471883seconded for terrible title. say it out loud, sounds retarded. hard to pronounce, zero ring to it and tells you nothing about the story.
>>214471254Can you talk a little bit about the process of making your first movie? How did that happen? Did you write the script first, round up actors for cheap, start fucking shooting? Did you do short films for a bit to get your practice in? How was the budget handled? Who held the camera, who did the lights and sound?
>>214472069nta but i can tell you from my own indie experience that when you're working with limited resources that means limited budget, limited crew, and limited cast. so more often than not people are pulling double duty, whether it means an actor is also a gaffer or the writer is also the director and maybe producer. but i will tell you this, nobody just gets up and makes movies. all directors started with making shorts before moving onto features. except DDL's son but then again he's not actually directing anemone, his name is just on the sheet.
I've written 6 scripts, got hired to finish one, almost got one made by big Chinese studio.I am working on this now:Title: Dream HouseGenre: Horror, Thriller, FantasyLogline: Teenager Emma moves to a new house with her family, only to find out - it's where all her nightmares happen. So what do you think? I want to do a modern take on italo horror like The Beyond and stuff.I used to write a lot of action; actually, my first script was a ninja movie that was kinda popular (here) and it almost got funding too.
>>214471937Nah it's not a comedy, but Police Squad is the inspiration for the name rather than The Gangster Squad, it's in the same ball park of a title, I don't think it's terrible and definetely, I don't think anybody remembers the Gangster Squad in 2025 to worry about that.Vampires and Noir aren't hot properties in any case, so I have bigger problems than the title.

>>214472542Giallos are usually slashers with a masked killer and mystery/thriller plots. I don't think I've ever seen a haunted house Giallo and I've seen a lot of them.
>>214472542like i said, it's not bad it just needs refining. take what you have and work on it based on your story and characters. also, the best thing you can do is memorize it, because when you want to sell your ideas they will ask for your logline.let me give you an example of the logline for the project i'm working on right now: in a forlorn effort to return home, a wayward gunslinger must battle inner demons and dark forces in order to save his soul.that's how you catch a producer's attention. it's rich with enough detail to give you a rough sketch of what's ahead but vague enough to get them interested in seeing the story play out.
>>214460853Anyone have a backup copy of Field of Memes that /tv/ was working on on 2016? I started the project, but my google drive got corrupted, so I lost everything.
>>214472626That's a really bad logline too lol. Incredibly vague, just sounds like the guy is having an argument with himself in his own head and going home for some reason. Where is the external conflict or stakes of the story?
>>214472601And heavy elements of taboo, eroticism, psychological tension... But yes, they are mostly categorized as slashers. You've never seen The Beyond? It's my favorite Lucio Fulci movie; you're missing out.
>>214472626This logline is not that much better, i think you fucked it up by presenting it as 'good'.A good logline should have a time limit too, that's what they say.
>>214471704No proper connections. But I've decided to reject my cynical past thoughts. I've decided that if I make a genuinely great film, the rest doesn't matter. And I've decided that I'm able to make a genuinely great film>>214472069I wrote a script first, after several years experience making shorts. Then I used a shitty casting service and facebook to find some actors who I paid very little, but something. I had a couple of friends show up to help some scenes. But I mostly acted as a one-man-band.I handled camera. Lights were set up beforehand. Nothing extreme. Tended to go with whatever was already in the room with some strategic smaller lights just to keep exposure on faces when needed. Once or twice I had to use a bigger light for night shots.Sound was handled with lav mics, though I don't use them very much anymore. Investing in 32 bit float recorders, I can now just place a mic near to the actors and leave it alone for the scene which saves a ton of time and effort for better results.First film is noticeably low-budget. I think it looks really nice at times and hits high notes but it's inconsistent and parts of it probably scream amateurish.Second film has done alright and won a couple of awards on the festival circuit. Nothing major but enough that I'm quite confident it will do well when I finally get it distributed. The most important thing I've learnt in the last 5 years is not to make a film to impress critics/pseuds. Honestly chasing money isn't the bad thing that people make it out to be. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make a film that normal people like and want to watch. And wanting that film to do well enough that it lets you make another film isn't something to be ashamed of.That doesn't mean you need to make capeshit. But if it's a choice between Terminator 2 and Parasite, you're allowed to pick T2
>>214469531Biggest laugh yet!Thanks anon.
>>214472698I've got a really fun Giallo I wrote, don't want to describe it too much here because I'm still sending it out, but it follows the classic slasher/mystery setup.

>>214472697>Where is the external conflict or stakes of the story?you literally didn't read the fucking logline you idiot lmao>>214472716>This logline is not that much betterit's far better than anon's, i'm sure he has a better version of it written somewhere but what he posted is in dire need of rework.>i think you fucked it up by presenting it as 'good'i didn't say it was good, i said it was good enough to catch someone's attention, which is the goal of a logline. >time limityeah it should be under 50 words and two sentences max, and it is. anon's logline is too short and not attention-grabbing, and when a producer asks "is this a haunted house movie" and anon says yes, the producer will ask what makes it different from the other 401 haunted house movies that already exist, and if anon's story is as bland as the logline then the producer will say "kthxbai" and move onto the next pitch.
>>214472920yikes
>>214472626>in a forlorn effort to return home, a wayward gunslinger must battle inner demons and dark forces in order to save his soul.Is this fantasy? Are the dark forces real demons so to say?
>>214472993in an older draft i designed it to be viewed as both, but in the more recent drafts it's full-on real.
scifi-horror movie in 420-style about an alien species who travel to earth, they land in san fransisco and say>we come in peacethe trouble is that the aliens looks like small mushroom so the hippies begin to hunt and kill every alien so they can 420. the aliens sends their troopers out but these are even tastier, trippier mushrooms and the hippies make slaves of them and cultivate them, they force the male shrooms to sex with eathother since the hippies think that's how aliens procastreates. anyway, the aliens tells san franscisco to fuck it up and shows them the finger and they then travel to dubai...I call it "shrooms 420 from san fransciso to dubai - an not-AI written movie shot with iphone 24"
how do I write a movie so I can shoot my daughter having sexxo with some british actor?I'm thinkin of basing it at king arthur myth but my daughta isn't into fantasy so can we have some scifi of the myth instead?
>>214472920Buddy, reading your logline i dont think you can talk about 'this' or 'that' being different one or another.
>>214472920"dark forces" "save his soul" gtfo with that lame vague bullshit. tells you nothing about the story or any image to latch onto cinematically.
>>214472137I think it'd be funnier if she thinks her nightmares happens in the house but it doesn't happen at all and she's an autistic psycho who fights her parents and masturbates in front of her dads friends and ruins everything.. a horror movie about how it is to parent to tismers.. but from pov of the autist
>>214473083It's a logline of course it is vague, it cannot contain the story. It is only useful to decide if you look at the script or not. "Save his soul" is the stakes, it may be metaphorical or not. I don't know I didn't write the script, the anon had some points about improving the other anon's logline.
>>214461914>Almost finished with my Jonah Hex scriptdude there are easier ways to cope with being raped by a teacher or coach
>>214473233It cannot contain anything that makes it unique? Dude. The history of the United States from the 1950s to the '70s unfolds from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, who yearns to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart. What movie is this?
>>214472638No oldfags around here?
>>214473415Forrest Gump. That the logline can be easily tied to the film doesn't change that a logline will be somewhat vague. I wrote my logline knowing full well it was unique because it is mix of genres so I made it simple and to the point; if you are writing a more generic story, then I guess you could go with a more flowery style, that way you are presenting yourself as a writer.
>>214473587oldfag here, have no clue what you're talking about, why not search for it in the archives?
>>214473035The name is hilarious, well done.
>>214462085Another brave soul that can post their script. This one doesn't work and I need to read something awful to get my hopes up.
>>214473728I did, no luck there. I went through every /swg/ I could find.
>>214460853I love stealing ideas from these threads. Keep it up.
>>214461204In the third act, the actual rapist is caught (maybe it's a tranny). This causes conflict across multiple characters - the black man who received hundreds of thousands in GoFundMe, mulls over whether he should tell the truth and the media, who debates of they release the news. Maybe the LBGTQ community gets involved and asks him to 'stay the course and take one for the team'. He's eventually convicted and put in prison - the epilogue states the tranny ends up raping again
