Les Miserables (2012) is a good film musical and I'm glad we got it before Tom Hooper was exposed as a hack fraud.
I POSTED IN A THREAD
LOOOOOOL
>>214480230it was missing a lot of scenes but overall it was okay
>>214480240It isn't, it's ruined by terrible performances - especially Russell Crowe. I could sing better, and I fucking suck.
>>214478733Whoever wrote that is a fucking retard referring to the candlesticks as "the best" candlesticks contain little silver they're filled with resin or other substances that gives them their weight
For the full Les Mis experience you need to pause the movie at several points to watch documentaries on: The Battle of Waterloo, 18th Century French convents, and the Paris sewer system.
>>214480370I will forgive you for not knowing the source material but the priest lived a pious life. As a bishop at the time he actually had a decent income that he constantly gives away. It's pretty much Victor Hugo writing a good Catholic after the visceral Frollo. The Bishop in the story swaps his sizable manse with the children's hospital next door. The only thing he allows himself is the dinnerware because it serves his guests and the pure silver candlestick because he sees it as a symbol of his faith. His old virgin sister and the elderly maid who live with him nearly berate him for his charity in that they live reduced lives because of it. One of the best moments in the book is when Valjean thinks of stealing the candlestick but decides not too as that would be going too far. When he is given it at his return after being arrested intially he doesn't have his breakthrough, it's only when he is walking to the next village and steals a coin from a small child does his regret and shame wash over him completely and he realizes he was given another chance
>>214480607Nigger do you understand that pure silver candlesticks are filled with resin so of something that weights 10, 15, 20 ounces etc you'll only get a few ounces of silver from them? They're not the best thing Valjean stole at all they're probably the least valuable
>>214480713I've outlined that yes, it was a pure silver candlestick. Im not sure what sort of metalergic autism you subscribe to but they were 'the best' in that it was the only amount of extravagant wealth he allowed himself. He could have an entire mansion filled with previous things but chose to keep only the overtly ornate candlestick (a monument to his faith) and the relatively nice dinnerware (again, as if served others and not himself)
>>214478733>oh I'm a French soldier yes I am
>>214480776As I have repeatedly said that pure silver candlesticks are filled with resin that gives them their weight them being filled with resin doesn't prevent them from being called or considered pure silver as candlesticks are hollow it's put into the hollow silver base to give them their weight, Valjean is seen in the film taking lots of silverware which contains much more silver than the candlesticks making them far from "the best" as they would've fetched far less than the other silverware he had stolen
>>214480890okay but the author says the candlesticks are the best and no matter what you say or do can't refute that as fact. The design? The purity? It doesn't matter. You are pontificating something this trivial for what, exactly
>>214480938My whole point is that the author is a retard as he doesn't know about candlesticks since he thinks they would be the most valuable when they contain very little silver
>>214479093>>214479756>>214479872>>214479926>>214480122LOOOL

>>214480288kek
>>214481052Now you know if you're robbing a joint that the candlesticks aren't worth as much as you thought and given the weight of them probably aren't worth the hassle
>>214480974With all the information you could ever digest you have more knowledge about the metalergic contents of a candlestick than a writer that lived nearly 200 years ago and still managed to write something talked about to this day. And that's if we ignore the very real fact they were stated as being more valuable(craftsmanship, or personal)congrats buddy I'd say here's a gold medal but might get a rant about how low metal content those have as well

>>214481229I'd rather know facts regarding a candlestick than read or know about a book written about proto-Marxists
Test
>>214481510if you can't understand the appeal of an oppressed peoples revolt there are probably some boots for you to lick somewhere. Valjean is the opposite of a Marxist btw he uses the stolen capital to hone in on a niche of buttons that don't need polishing and becomes an industrial leader/mayor who creates welfare and jobs
>>214481669Ah yes the oppressed revolutionaries who unleashed what is known as the Reign of Terror and killed their own leader because he failed their purity test because he wasn't an Atheist but a Deist, plus the numerous working class peasants they slaughtered because they also didn't share their beliefs, what an inspiration!

So the Les Miserabe movie isn't good? I'm asking because I haven't seen it. I did see the musical however, in person, and really enjoyed it. If I remember correctly there's also an anime based on the novel. Have any anons seen this adaptation?>*seething* go back to /a/ faggot! Why do you even bother?

>>214482546candlestick maker you would be living in absolute poverty despite having a skill trade. There is a very definable line between equality and communism. You are equating modern sensibilities to a time when it's very likely you wouldn't be able to afford to eat and wishing things were as they were back then in some insane cope that you would be part of the ruling class. Legitimate power fantasy
>>214482944pas mal
>>214482946Nigger even the people behind the revolution are considered proto-Communists by historians and they even tried to overthrow the first republic because it wasn't Communist enough go look up Babeuf that aside the fact you support people who created the Cult Of Reason where if you didn't accept their 'science' and 'logic' you were killed then you are scum for example if you disagreed that animals were essentially automatons and any reaction to pain they exhibited was merely reactionary stimuli and they were not sentient and not capable emotions you would be executed under their Cult of Reason which was totally not a new religion
>>214482946Also the fact that you're either too stupid or more likely purposefully avoiding the fact that the counter-revolutions such as that by the Chouannerie were by peasants not all the peasants agreed with the Communists and thus they were killed like you would be in a just world
>>214480240>chose to do the "I dreamed a dream" after "Lovely Ladies">seconds after Fontaine gets nutted in>she's just singing horribly with cum leaking out her cuntAside from that the constant cutting of songs that you'd only know if you've seen the musical. It sucks. Its a bad film.

When I entered this thread I didn't expect a lecture on silver candlesticks.
What's the best stage play to watch? I've seen the Les Miserables In Concert The 25th Anniversary (2010) one.
