I just rewatched this and holy shit is it bad. I remember being at least entertained when I watched it in the theater but back then the mashup concept being a relative novelty may have made all the difference.

I want Kate Beckinsale to fart in my mouth.
>>
>>214485794
Its just a retarded popcorn movie like marvel shit, enjoy it for what it is or just ignore

zoomers don't get fun
>>
Had the potential to be another great series like The Mummy.
>>
If you watch almost any film in a cinema then the film is nearly always better than it is watching at home. Most cinemas have a better picture, screen size and definition as well as sound that is streets ahead of all anything you could get at home if you're not just a millionaire anyway. Even the best home cinema is trying to recreate the cinema experience, rather than equal it.

I'd like to say this one is /tv/'s most bizarre "criminally underrated" picks, but there's plenty of even worse stuff we'll defend to the death for no other reason than to be contrarian.

It can probably be edited down to a more watchable 100 min version considering some scenes basically happen and play out exactly the same way several times with no consequence on the plot, like the vampire lady taunting Kate Beckinsale and Dracula's "we go back you and I" speeches.

There's nothing about the visual style of the film that's not intentional so that's a matter of taste, but the movie would have definitely benefited from some script doctoring.
>>
>>214485982
It definitely needed a few re-writes, they were attempting to cram too many things into the film.

Yeah, Anora sucked
>>
SEXY SEXY KATE BECKINSALE
>>
>>214485794
The only thing I can remember of the movie from back in the day is Faramir fresh from LotR doing a weird comedy performance, and Kate Beckinsale being introduced literally with an ass shot.

I refuse to watch any film that portrays St. Dracula (pbuh) as anything less than a crusading hero slaughtering ottomutt subhumans enmasse

I thought it was kino on its release, and I still do. Loved the Frankenstein's monster. The CGI has held up pretty well too.

Cut half the snarl-at-the-screen shots and you can probably trim 10 extra minutes or so.

This movie is great fuck you OP
>>
>>214486337
The cast was probably blindsided by the amazingly stupid-looking CGI they slapped on their faces made worse by half the movie being literally nonstop yelling, but how tf did this guy agree to that hair styling?

Bro you cut the best bit

The only movie in Sommers' filmography that's not legitimately godawful is probably the first Mummy movie, and it still rides the line.
>>
>>214486276
>Lame fucking villain
Some pajeet with a fucking side part haircut styled with fucking pomade and his power is that he has a lot of money. Literally. Like, he reveals he has a shitload of fucking silver coins uses them against the vampire dude like fucking kriptonite. Basically like one of those lame ass cybertruck indian kids. Also the main guy uses bats like fucking avatar powers? Like avatar the last airbender powers, but the elements are replaced with bats? So he's just casting waves of bats at people? What's up with that? Lame villain, lame powers, don't even remember the fucking plot. Gay movie.

For /tv/ that's a tomayto, tomahto issue
>>
>>214485794
Hey, I always liked this one.

It's dumb and loud but definitely not ugly. The movie looks good and still has the best depiction of werewolves put on film.
>>
>>214486769
I would unironically call it ugly before loud, considering more of the appeal is in the scenery chewing than in the horribly aged CGI

>>214486769
The "ripping skin" approach is cool in concept, but the effects and shots are so excessive and blunt that there's basically no impact to anything that happens in the movie 5 minutes in. Restraint wasn't really a quality of Sommers' work.
>>
>>214485794
You said it yourself. It's that kind of brainless movie made to be enjoyed in a crowd with friends and basically half-ironically. Even the repetitive/redundant scene issue factors in, accounting for the fact that realistically nobody will be actually paying much attention to what's going on.

Anons watching it on their own a decade later and calling it "kino" is unironically hilarious though.

It reminds us of a different time anon. A better time...

That movie is one of the shittiest I have ever seen in my life.
What is wtong with you?

You are probably a spiteful mutant and you would have been hunted down if you were in the movie OP
>>
>>214485794
I just rewatched it and holy shit is it AWESOME

This tone of campy fun is so goddamn underutilized, I wish a thousand more movies like this existed

For those who like this and the mummy, the director also made "deep rising", which is in the same vein and equally awesome!
>>

Top-tier, almost on par with my wife Gemma Arterton in Hansel+Gretel Witchhunters
>>
Young Frankenstein is better.
>>
>>214487232
But there are way better movies from that time.
>>214485794
Recently rewatched it myself and it was WAY worse than I was expecting. So many cheesy lines and so much bad acting. The whole thing seemed like a weird attempt at comedy, but it was rarely actually funny. It's unironically more fun to read Bram Stoker's Dracula than watch this movie.

>>
It's obvious that OP is a zoombie. He has no soul.
>>
>>214486831
it was in the early days of 1080p and most people saw it on projectors etc, the cgi didn't even NEED to be good back then, you couldn't tell.

Yeah, watching it on a 4k 70inch tv? bad experience. You'd have to be retarded to expect it to hold up.
>>
>>214487588
Attaching the notion of "camp" to something silly and tacky doesn't make it intentionally so, anon.

If you enjoy something, just enjoy it; or at least don't cover it on labels and pretend you're defending what it is instead of yourself for enjoying what it ACTUALLY is.
>>
>>214489052
Are you fucking kidding me? They jump a cliff in a flaming horse drawn carriage. Of fucking course it’s intentionally campy you idiot.

Such eloquence. I will definitely make sure not to defend what something is instead of myself for enjoying what it actually is from now on.

Its very camp. Its a Hammer horror film but made in the 21st century.

>Q: The books are very serious. Will there be a hint of humor and camp in this?
>SOMMERS: No, I knew I wanted to make it straight. I didn't want to make a movie that was like – you know, I'd already done "The Mummy", so I didn't want it to be "Mummy 3" just with different monsters. It has a very different tone to it. It's a very different story, and uh, you know, I just love the characters. I went into this thing saying, 'There are no monsters: Just people with really bad problems.' Van Helsing has some bad problems, Princess Anna has some bad problems, this guy Frankenstein, he has real bad problems. The Wolf Man, he's a wreck. So it's people with a lot of bad problems. But they're all humans. Everyone in the movie, they're all – there are no monsters. Even Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, they're all people. Frankenstein is a man. Well, he's seven men, but he's still human. So it's not like there are any aliens in the movie.
