Wtf was his problem?
>>214486011Being a white male in a suit (capitalist)
>>214486011>Wtf was his problem? He thought they were going to give $750,000 of their money to put in the business he brought, then let him collect when it pays off. *laughs*>214486025Go back.
>>214486011> i want a part in a bad Jurassic Park movie
>>214486011He is literally me.
>>214486011Hiring the two biggest dumbfucks in Minnesota to pull of his retarded plan
>>214486011he was in trouble from that car scheme he tried to pull off.the question is why did he do the car scheme.
>>214486198Now that i have seen jurrasic world i consider 3 to be good quality
>>214486011No problem, he was cooperating
>>214486393she was a super lady and he had to get it on
>that trucoat, though
>>214486011More importantly, how did this guy pull a cute wife like that.
>>214486393culture clash
>>214487994John Carroll Lynch has statistically one of the largest wieners in Hollywood
>Scottie, yesReminds me of someone...
>>214488027His real life wife is/was pretty unremarkable-looking.
>>214486011A little bit of money
>>214487994this type of pairing is common in small towns and rural areas
>>214486011He knew full well his father in law was an asshole. He should just have cashed the "finder's fee" the other guy offered him. He could have invested that in another, smaller project.
>>214488409finder's fee? Heck, that's not gonna do it for him!
>>214488519It's been a while. Why was Jerry short on cash again and needed to put up non-existing cars as collateral for loans? Was he bad at running his dealership business? Did he gamble? Was it even mentioned in the movie?Ultimately, Jerry was an archetypical loser. (And as such very well played by Macy. I really like Fargo.)
>>214486433likely a gambler who was in over his head
>>214488585It's never specified why he needs the money. I think it was a case of ego thinking he deserved more than he had. He originally wanted the $300,000 from the phony car loans thinking the insurance company wouldn't actually follow up on whether the cars existed or not. Then he conjured up the kidnapping scheme as a way to deal with that while pocketing the rest. Gets $1 million from the father in law, gives the kidnappers $40,000, presumably gives back the insurance money. So in the end Jerry would have over $600,000 for himself. To do what with? Don't know.
>>214488698>I think it was a case of ego thinking he deserved more than he had.Yes, probably. And envy. His father in law was a lot richer than him, so my guess is his wife was also used to a much higher standard of living.>So in the end Jerry would have over $600,000 for himself. That used to be really a lot of money in the early 90s. Many younger people probably don't realize that.
He couldn’t fuckin sell it
>>214486011why does william h macy always play cuck roles in every film he's in ?
>>214489533I think I only remember him from "The Maiden Heist" (where he played that weirdo gay night guard who liked to undress in front of a male warrior statue), and as "The Shoveler" in "Mystery Men".
>>214489670Arguably he was a cuck in Boogie Nights
>>214486187They’re not a bank
>>214486378They were from the Fargo syndicate. That in North Dakota.
>>214487994His mallard painting won the three cent stamp. Whenever they raise the postage, people need the little stamps.
>>214486011I'll fax the answer right over to you, OP.
>>214490960>arguably
>>214488585he just sucked as a salesman and sold no cars so got no commission. kept borrowing money to save face with his wife and father in law.
>>214487994they go back a while, it’s implied he used to be a cop but gave it up so she could advance
>>214487994>>214491299>They announced it.>They announced it?>Yeah.>...So?>No direct evidence.>Lee, that's terrific!
>>214486187Why the fuck would Jerry think they would give him all that money for nothing in return? Even if it was his father in law. And how did he think he'd be able to swoop in and buy it if he did get the money from the ransom after alerting Wade to the sale. Does he not think anyone would then wonder where he got the money? He's a retard with a bit of ambition but zero capability to actually formulate a coherent plan. His plan also has literally no contingencies.
>>214488698>It's never specified why he needs the money. He wants to purchase the lot for himself but needs $750k.
he was such a worm. i love the ending how hes trying to escape out the window like the worm he is.
>>214491217If they wanted a bank interest loan on $750,000...
>>214491928I thought he wanted to get the ransom money to pay back his debts. The ones that made him put up non-existing cars as a collateral, for which he was constantly called and threatened with legal action. His family didn't seem to know about his debts, so they wouldn't be suspicious if he could suddenly pay them back.
>>214489533Being typecast as a shitty role is still regular work for an actor. If I was an actor I'd be playing creep or druggie roles exclysively
>>214492227Were several of the cars non existent or was it just the car he gave to Steve Buscemi as payment?
>>214486025crazy how much yuros hate white men>>214486011immense gambling debt
>>214492396Jerry was constantly called throughout the movie about VIN numbers of 11 or 12 cars he had put up as collateral for a loan. And he would then make up a new list of VIN numbers, taking great care that the numbers would be illegible in the fax he would send. Why would he do that if he had real cars?
>>214487994They're looksmatched? You're just saying that because he's bald, which he might not have been when they met
>>214492227He's getting into that debt to try and accumulate money to purchase the loan but he only got there through fraud and misappropriation and still only able to raise half the funds so he's looking for a way out. If he gets the million then theoretically he can just settle the loan, pays for the car he stole and he's able to purchase his real estate without anyone ever knowing about his fraud.
>>214491928It was his deal here, see.
>>214492475>Why would he do that if he had real cars?Because he doesn't own the cars, his father in law does; it's his dealership. He's taken the VIN numbers of a fleet of actual cars from the dealership and dumbly fudged them enough so that they can't be confirmed either way hoping that the loan would just be handwaved through, which it almost was until it got held up upon audit.
>>214486393I don't understand this scene and why it was put in the movie. Why was this scene filmed?
>>214493731It showed that even harmless looking people like Jerry lie and deceit
>>214493731>>214493851She indeed goes back to Jerry to double-check him after she receives the phone call that reveals the Japanese guy as a liar. Marge never came off as naive for me, so I never really entertained this angle but after an Anon pointed out this I made sure to re-watch the movie with this being kept in mind and it's there. I think it was more about Marge willing to assume the best (or the better) of people until it's proven otherwise.
Even if Jerry's scheme did work wouldn't he just get arrested anyways after suddenly becoming a million dollars richer immediately after his wife was kidnapped? He strikes me as someone who would immediately overspend and get flagged by the IRS
>>214486011He was fleeing the interview
>>214494179Yes Jerry was a complete retard
>>214492888Disregarding the outdated haircut, he looks fine. But he is also presented as a pretty unexciting guy. Which stands out as a good thing by the end of the movie, but usually isn't.
>>214494088It's a popular theory that Mike clues Marge in on deception which makes her go back to re-interview Jerry, and it does work within the context of the film, but might be worth noting that in the script the reason Marge returns to the dealership is because another cop notifies Marge that Shep Proudfoot is wanted for assault and parole violation and she's requested Wade to call her back but hasn't heard anything so Marge decides to follow it up since Shep is already a person of interest having received a phone call from the likely perpetrators.
>>214486011>>214486187Okay but like, why did he need the money? I don't remember the details but he had already been in extreme debt for some reason and the business plan was just a cover for him to ask for cash so he could pay off whatever that debt was. So what was his plan with the fake business (how would he pretend to have started one while paying off personal debts with the investment money) and how did he expect to just give away the dealership's cars at a total loss to pay hitmen and shit (okay i know the idea is he's stupid and sucks so that makes sense)
>>214486011Why do movies always paint car salesmen as losers?
>>214493851I would actually argue that Jerry has a face not to be trusted. He is pretty much one of the most off-putting looking people I have ever seen. He seems extremely puny, and pathetic in his physiognomy, coasting by on pity his entire life. No doubt that when he fucked up in his life, people let it go due to the fact that he looks so meek.
>>214487994He makes breakfast just for her early even when she says he can sleep in, and then brings her lunch at her office and eats with her! And paints wildlife in his free time! What a great guy really
>>214494534People often hate dealing with them and they can seem desperate even when successful just because their business is sales and commission
>>214494587Yeah maybe it's more like she realizes puny or sadder seeming people can be capable of great deceit and evil, as well
>>214494519He needs the money to pay for the real estate deal he's pestering his father in law over. He's fraudulently used cars from his father in law's dealership as collateral to obtain a loan to presumably put down some kind of a deposit on $750k worth of land. It's not confirmed that he's spent any of the money he's illegally procured but that would make sense and mean that he would lose a portion of the deposit if he backed out, hence why he can't just pay back the loan to avoid the scrutiny of the audit. He may have put down the entire $300k since he seemingly has no money left which is why he steals a car from his father in law's dealership to give to the kidnappers as an advance on their job instead of some upfront cash. He promises to pay them $40k upon delivery. If he gets the million, minus the $40k, he can simply pay back the loan so his embezzlement will never be discovered, pay off the remaining portion of the land sale, and he'll still have around a quarter of a million left over.
>>214494705Thank you. What a dumbass lol
>>214494705What a convoluted dumbass fucking plan.
>>214494730>>214494914The plan might have actually worked had he: 1) Not hired psychopaths about whom he knows nothing that were referred to him from a paroled criminal he works with 2) Paid the accomplices with cash up front instead of a stolen car 3) Assuming he has no cash for an upfront payment and insists on using a car remove the dealership plates and get appropriate registration before handing it over to criminals that are about to use the vehicle to commit a crime4) Had some way, any way, of actually contacting the accomplices during the job: when he thinks he might not need them he doesn't even have a phone number or beeper on which he can reach them5) Ensured that the kidnappers insist he must be the one to deliver the cash alone or procure a drop off point that he can actually control and ensure he can handle or obtain the money before the kidnappers He legitimately thinks of none of this.
>>214486198Considering it’s the second best JP movie, I would say the franchise in general sucks.
Something I never really understood about this movie is this - if he was planning on staging a kidnapping to steal the ransom money from his father in law, why did he even bother going to him and asking for the principal and then getting upset when he's cut out of the deal? Wasn't that the whole point? That the father in-law wouldn't give him the money he needed/wanted? Seems like if his plan actually succeeded it would be super obvious to the dad that his money was with Jerry
>>214495829Jerry plans the kidnapping Then his father in law says he’s interested in land dealJerry tries to call off kidnapping but can’tFather in law tells him only a finders fee (they’re not a bank)Kidnapping goes throughRest of the movie.
>>214495829Yeah haha how stupid and clumsy. Even if grandpa bought the ridiculous story, he'd not only have petty anger for losing the same amount of money his son coincidentally just acquired and is now upstaging him with, but more logically demand to half or all of the money Jerry apparently had available, that he had to sink into his wife's ransom on the claim Jerry couldn't pay! Holy fuck how stupid
>>214496239oh yeah, I forgot about that second part
>I'm asking you here, Wade. This could work out real good for me and Jean and Scotty.>Jean and Scotty never have to worry.
And it's a beautiful day.
