>>214486301The "point" of the original movie may be a little too harsh for a mainstream Hollywood movie specially considering the reveal of the kid being trailer park trash may make it overkill so I get why the audiences reacted poorly to it. Ideally, a middle point between that and the silly and schmaltzy reshot ending may have been the way to go, but as a studio production operating on test audience feedback the movie had no chance to be retooled into anything but a mediocre product.
