I dont think there is clear definition when you see the producers listed in the end credits. Producers make the movie happen by raising the money and controlling how it was spent. But some producers are just an honorary title so they get a paycheck for a do nothing job.

There's two kinds of producers. A real producer organizes props, rents locations, organizes transport for the crew, hires staff and basically takes care that the crew has all they need to work on the film.
Then there's executive producers who do nothing but cash a huge paycheck for a couple of millions and have their name show up in the titles.

Usually they'll get executive producer credits, but that doesn't necessitate that executive producers are all bankroll and all do-nothings, it's just that's probably the title you'd get if you did nothing else but bankroll and/or help bankroll a project.

A lot of the time it sounds like one of those glorified assistant jobs. They've done too much in an entry level position to be kept there any longer, but they aren't competent enough to advance any higher, so they're given a title and a raise and a bunch of oddball shit to take care of.

It depends. Some just put the money. Others are the actual driving force behind the whole project and others are just assistants in charge of menial tasks no one else wants to do
