It felt like Spike Lee shitposting. The melodrama is so ridiculous and the random surreal shit so bizarre that it's even hard to seriously hate on this. It's not really good at all, but I wasn't bored and laughed a lot. 5/10, maybe even a 6. The Kurosawa film is a masterpiece tho and is a must watch, if you haven't seen it.

They're playing it so straight it feels bizarre from all the recent Spike Lee movies.Also it's almost an all-black cast besides a few white cops, I guess Spike hired all his friends.
A$AP Rocky plays the black hoodlum kidnapper so hard it almost feels like a parody of every stereotype known about that species.
So why is Spike Lee doing just shitty remakes recently? And in the era of BLM too. Does that mean his "community" has no stories to be told about them? You'd think he'd be all over race-baiting propaganda right about now, but instead he's making remakes of asian movies that are wholly unnecessary and artistically pointless.

Honestly just an embarrassing effort from Spike Lee, the whole thing is just a mess. The music is laughable, I cringed my way through it just to be able to say I finished it...and I FUCKING HATED IT.

>>214495703Not as good as it should have been but worth a watch. At times it was self-indulgent. The story played out in a way that felt farfetched (what the fuck was with that train drop?). The white cop was a hilariously bad actor.But the soundtrack was godtier. Denzel played the same character he always does but in a good way. A$ap Rocky wasn't in it enough and his scenes were kino.

OP here, just finished watching.I expected worse after hearing the critics from Cannes but it was a nice movie.It takes a bit to get accustomed to the tone of the movie, but once you board the train the ride is cool.It's a blaxsploitation movie with some good actors and an awfully long list of cameos.The confrontation between Denzel and Rocky was a great moment, but the fight on the subway was really lackluster.I hope Spike gets to make an original movie because we see him adapting someone else's work in this.I guess I'll try the original to compare and see the differences.6/10, worth a watch if you're not afraid of seeing niggers in your kino.
