>“[‘War of the Worlds’] was a movie I did in 2020 during the pandemic,” Ice Cube recalled. “We shot it in 15 days, and it was during the pandemic. So the director wasn’t in there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really shoot the movie.”
>no director
>no actor
>just shooting
And you guys worried about your own projects this and that, just shoot the shit out it and call it a day

With the pacing and editing the way it is, no it doesn't work. It's like an ADHD-ruined version of what other screenlife and found footage movies have managed to do right

>And you guys worried about your own projects this and that, just shoot the shit out it and call it a day
but this movie was obviously terrible and nobody actually watched it save for the rare shitposter you see making a thread about it every now and then - one that dies before ever even hitting like 20 posts, by the way

just like boxing it's clearly not possible to make a good movie on your own without at least one other person - if only for the fact you need somebody to check your acting and be honest with you if it's shit or not.
same goes for the fact that if you're alone on camera the whole time talking to yourself - that's called a MONOLOGUE and stories and plays didn't usually have the entirety of their content be a fucking monologue because it's really boring after a while and the actor would have to be insanely good to capture your attention that long. ice cube isn't and (you) probably aren't either

all of this obviously doesn't apply the same way to animating something either, just in case anybody wants to try to pull some kind of retarded gotcha

for making a GOOD movie with REAL people you need at minimum:
>some kind of budget or at the very least access to several useful props or costumes already
>a well thought out location or set of locations
>a good quality camera
>a director
>an actor or multiple actors
>a script, meaning somebody has to write a story and then transform it into lines and scene setups and possibly even inserts for reactions to CGI elements

anything less than this might as well be a cringy video of you doing heath ledger joker impressions

also as a final addendum: directors CAN do everything and plenty have but you better be good. a real renaissance man of a director in one movie could
>write the whole thing up
>direct the other actors
>also act in it
>operate the camera for important scenes focused on the other actors
>edit it all to his liking at the end

though any director that was smart enough and capable enough to do all this would probably also be wise enough to still have a co-director to keep their output quality high when they themselves are acting. they can't direct themselves from the outside

most scenes in films are shot by second unit directors, that's an open secret.
and the director of photography does all the technical stuff.
once you made it as a director you can basically just be a supervisor and do very little

Guys, over the course of the movie the Ice Cube stuff happens in real time. 90 minutes. But he also sees all these other world events unfold. This is absolutely nonsensical. In real life, there are 90 minute delays to urgent press conferences.

This movie will be a cult classic in ten years.
Screencap this.

is it really supposed to be a secret that actors work for a couple weeks for a normal persons yearly salary?

I wish Ice Cube would understand that we ain't mad at him, but own up to your fuck ups man. They all can't be gems, Ice Cube. We all know Friday After Next was a huge misstep that should've never happened, but at least you put a lot of up and comers on with that one.

Gotta give it to Ice Cube tho, his performance is so bad it actually makes the film at least entertaining.

This movie is the peak of "dumb people writing smart things." I love how anything he needs to do is just a context sensitive button on his computer, or if it's REALLY complicated, he types the request into a floating search bar and the computer just "does it." Every time I see these webms I can't hear a black guy saying "he on da CUMPYUTAH"

Ugh, you just reminded me of a shitty student film that I was gonna do props on before it got aborted about a WW2 sniper (twist ending: turns out he's not a Soviet shooting German soldiers, he's actually a modern day crazy guy shooting people on the street!)
Whole thing was run by a friend of a friend who had the idea and that's it, no script or anything, and I was in charge of costumes and props because I have a bunch of guns in my house. Had to buy uniforms with my own money because he didn't give me any, so I only bought one of each. Russian uniform was cheap, but German uniforms are expensive because they know Nazi retards will pay a shitload for them because they're stupid, so I bought a really cheap Chinese one that would look okay from a distance.
Eventually, the dipshit director decided he would rather spend daddy's money on some other major so the whole thing got shitcanned and I had a Nazi uniform in my closet for 5 years. Still have the Russian uniform, I've actually got a lot of mileage out of that.
I'm not sure what the point of this story was.
