Well the world became cynical and joyless and most things portrayed in them are considered offensive now. Plus all the focus would be on the politics or cast diversity of the show and if the dialogue is not modern it wouldn't be "bussin"

sitcom is "situational comedy" as in the humor is derived from things like misunderstandings and interactions. Police Squad is a spoof, the humor comes from making fun of cop shows, visual gags and absurdism. You might as well say Airplane! or Austin Powers is a sitcom.

Comedy requires optimism (as the 90s had) because its all about getting to like these fictional characters and their lives.
Its very clear we are in very hateful and pessimistic times, so no popular comedy groups possible these days. Look at its always sunny for example, theyre being funny is purposefully made by being hated and loathed, which is why its one of the few popular """"comedy"""" shows.
