Starter off just another guy in Tony crew, but he was from Italy so he felt more legit. Then they turned him into a love interest for Carmella that doesnt go anywhere.

to show the sopranos family really was a pygmy crew, and not a full fledged mafia senpai. The one mafia dude they brought from the old country was leaps and bounds better than all of them in fighting and decorum.
