Did people really used to watch hundreds of hours of a TV show, becoming deeply invested in the plot and characters, only for the ending to ruin everything?
>>
>>214526270
Sure. Game of thrones for instance was one of the biggest culture phenomenons in media of the 2010s, obsessed by literally every dweeby fucking nerd and normalfag at work you would talk to. It’s shitty ending gutted its legacy to being only known as ‘wow they really dropped the ball with that dogshit final season’ an opinion held by literally everyone
>>
>>214526340
It really cannot be understated to zoomers how Game of Thrones was watched by literally everyone. On Sunday you'd go over to your buddy's place and you'd watch it together, and at work everyone from the 50 year old lady with two kids to the 20-something fresh out of college was into it. And then the last season just ended every single storyline in such a horrible way that a month later it was like the show had never even existed.
>>
>>214526270
Ask Dr Who fans lol
>>
>>214526340
I had to force myself to watch episodes and took like a 3 month hiatus long before season 8. normies must have pretty bad taste if they thought that was going to end well.
>>
>>214526270
>hundreds of hours
Dexter is 96 episodes, and they average under an hour each. That show is merely tens of hours long, not hundreds
>>
>>214526270
the newest season redeemed the previous one, i loved watching that fucking midge beg for his life
>>
>>214526270
yes. and we liked it.
oh well I guess that's the end of Married With Children!
I kind of wish other shows/movie franchises would die. like all the cartoon shows that go on for 40 years.
shows are more fun when they die
>>
>>214526941
like the Dinosaurs?
>>

>It really cannot be understated to zoomers how Game of Thrones was watched by literally everyone.

yea, I recall even the 70 IQ black dudes and white trash at the warehouse I was working at would all be talking about it the monday after it aired.

>DAMN dawg, did you see what happen to Joffery?!
>>
>>214526941
I thought the baseball episode where he vows never to play again was the finale but I'm not sure. I did see the ending where mr floppy disappears because the father stips drinking in unhappily ever after.
>>
As a kid I would see random episodes of mad about you and I think they adopted a baby or that might have been king of queens? When you couldn't control the order of what you watched, you just enjoyed anything. 3rd rock from the sun, highlander, just shoot me. Even Lena and Hercules, havent seen the finale since it stopped airing as a kid. Will definitely revisit them now.

Based hoi polloi.
>>
>>214526270
i don't get the whole "the ending le ruined the show" thing
nigger, it's a fucking made up story for tv, the ending literally has no consequences on anything, you are entertained by some parts and not by others, who gives a fuck
who the fuck (aside from some women maybe) makes a tv show story such an important part of his life that le ending RUINS it for them?
>>
>>214526423
>Game of Thrones was watched by literally everyone.
literally everyone = you and your gay friends

never gave a shit about it and never knew anyone who did
>>
>>214526340
It's a good lesson though. Normies now know not to take shows seriously.
>>
>>214526502
>>
>>214527013
That one's interesting because it pre-dated the asteroid impact becoming mainstream as the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs. So they all just died off because of vague "climate change"
>>
>>214526270
I have an amazing ability to completely headcanon in/out parts of a TV show at will.

When you realise that the original writers of TV shows you liked are almost never the same as the ones who ruin it eventually, it's very simple to dismiss bad endings as simply fan fiction. This works for TV shows, film sequels, games, any kind of media. For example:
>Dexter (seasons 5-8)
>Game of Thrones (seasons 5-8 wow the same as Dexter weird)
>Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 (especially Remake)
>Halloween 2
Poof, none of them matter, the originals are untarnished in my mind.

>Did people really used to watch hundreds of hours of a TV show, becoming deeply invested in the plot and characters, only for the ending to ruin everything?

Someone should make a website. Call it "Is the ending good?"
Have this website do polls on people who have finished a TV show or anime show.
The poll should ask a simple question: "Is the ending good?".
It should help guide people in figuring out whether a show that's like 50-60 episodes long is worth the time investment.

>>214526423
Same thing with the walking dead then pretty much everyone collectively quit watching as everyone got tired of the repetitiveness of it, especially when they killed off a bunch of characters

Bogtor Who
>>
I watched the first episode, what's the deal with the ice truck killer throwing the head on Dexter's windshield. What was that about
>>
>>214526502
I just watched most of nuWho since I didn't really do it back when it aired. I simply quit after season 10 and will pretend that they never renewed it for another season. It's alright.

The Ice Truck Killer is Dexter's brother and gradually begins to try to get Dexter on his side and become an evil serial killer like him. Dexter and his brother are both serial killers because their mother was cut up by drug dealers when they were kids, and Dexter was taken in by harry Morgan (Cop who was there on the crime scene because he was using Dexter's mother as an informanant) and Dexter's brother was taken to orphanages because Harry thought he was too fucked up and a little older to know what happened to his mother.

Sounds stupid af, I should drop it here and now
>>
>>214532282
Its enjoyable. Dexter isn't really a show you take super seriously. Its a dark comedy
>>
I still am. I have been re watching original dexter.

granted it's only a night time thing with an open beer. mind you I still enjoy it
>>
>>214526270
Why do shows go out of their way to give unsatisfying endings? Who thought this way a good way to end Dexter? What's the issue with having Deb survive and Dexter make it to Argentina with his new family?
Why do they want to spit on what they know the audience wants?
>>
>>214532346
I just finished a rewatch of the first eight and have gone back and started again and am six episodes into the first season.
It's extremely entertaining and maybe it's just because the standard of quality in media has plummeted so far but season 5-8 seem so much better than I remember. Ending is still shit though.
>>
>>214532282
It's campy show based on a book series that has literal demons and shit. If you're not into that i'd drop it. It's not a drama like breaking bad
>>
>>214532380
only dr vogel eps are REALLY bad, the rest is fine
>>
>>214532422
Isn't the first book the only one the series uses for any plots and even then it changes a lot?
>>
>>214526502
>>214530788
If this really is the end of Who, it really will go down as one of the shittiest endings ever.
Everyone would have preferred a safe, bland ending of the Doctor retiring and one last shot of the TARDIS firing off. But RTD was so desperate for one last gasp of relevance, he turned it into a continuity clusterfuck.
>>
>>214532434
It's a bit contrived and feels a bit retconny but I don't hate the Vogels episodes. Her death is an extremely shocking moment even if you see it coming. I quite like how it builds to a kooky family dynamic but they abandon that by the end of the same episode it happens.
>>
OP be like
>well, 999 pages of this 1000 page novel were fantastic, but the last page kinda sucked, experience ruined
>>
>>214532539
i hate how it takes away from the whole dex&harry struggle thing and makes dex look like her personal soldier who follows her wishes like some programmed puppy
>>
>>214532658
She does feel a bit like an intruder in the Dex and Harry relationship although with the character they've created I don't think it's all that surprising that she's able to manipulate Dexter though considering her background and knowledge of him. I suspected that she had created her own Dexter that had gone rogue and become the brain surgeon. I thought the season would end with her on Dexter's table for a time.
>>
>>214532801
could have been made much better by her joining the project at later time when harry already established the code and was struggling with not offing himself, and then yes, her ultimately ending up on the table
>>
>>214526270
Those "hundreds of hours" were spread out over years

No one is saying the shows are important parts of life or that the ending of the show ruined life for them. They just stated how popular some things are and how virtually everyone was so disappointed no one will invest like that into a show anymore. I’m sure you’d be at the very least frustrated if you’ve been watching a show or movie that had your favorite actors, a plot right up your alley about something you love like fantasy or sci fi or historical war shit, solid cast, pacing is amazing, effects and everything look legit, everyone you know seems at least somewhat impressed even if it’s “not their thing” and then the last scene is a very close up shot of a circumcision. And not some medical one but a Jewish one where the rabbi sucks blood from the babies dick(it’s called matzah b’peh they actually do this). All the time you spent watching it you’d want back. You’d be confused. Even sickened. Any and all memories associated with that show would be tainted. You couldn’t bring it up without someone else loudly groaning in the room and being frustrated at the very sound. Or worse imagine you have a great series like lord of the rings then the hobbit movies come along and only children and mentally retarded adults like it.
>>
>lila kills doakes
>lundy moves on/gets offed by a random bitch
>trinity kills rita
>cody&astor disappear
>deb kills laguerta
>isaak kills louis
>saxon kills zach
>deb just dies for without reason (but not before patching things up with dex)

fucking weak
isn't the whole point of crime drama is how the characters deal with life choices like that?
>>
I mean getting 70 episodes of kino was still worth it. The tv shows now have like 30 episodes by the end and is complete slop from start to finish
>>
>>214533394
It's fucking hilarious. I'm so used to the beginning of a show being rough around the edges, then it improves by the second and third seasons and you get pretty good shit at least for a while. Every time I watch something modern the first season is great, I want to see more, then they shit the bed by the second season or FUCKING NOTHING HAPPENS, and then I don't even care about the third one anymore.
Fuck.

i said "ruined the show", not "ruined my life"
>All the time you spent watching it you’d want back. You’d be confused. Even sickened. Any and all memories associated with that show would be tainted.
not even close, and that's why i don't understand this, it sounds like you are investing your very soul into a fucking story, how is this "enjoying a show"?
i rewatched the first 10 seasons of simpsons probably 15 times and i don't even think about any season past that and i literally don't even know how many seasons it has these days and i don't give a fuck
i rewatched first two star wars multiple times, and literally don't care about others after watching once
i rewatched dexter s1-s6 who knows how many times, the rest only once
rewatched oz multiple times, all seasons
i enjoyed every single rewatch and didn't even think about any of it being "ruined" because there's bad parts later
>>
Dexter was the show that made me stop doing that
I followed it in it’s original run, I was way too young but it was really great in the beginning
It started falling off from S5 but it was still fun and I was invested so I kept watching, hoping to be rewarded for my time
The ending to S8 was so shit it literally made me depressed a bit for like 2 days, it was both extremely melancholic and very unsatisfying story-wise
HIMYM also ended around that same time and also had one of the shittiest endings ever and those 2 shows made me stop following TV regularly
So glad we get to live in a Dexter renaissance with Resurrection though, we truly are not in the worst timeline after all

I just watched The Boondocks Saints the other day and I don't know if her listening to music is part of her autismo or some sort of homage to the FBI agent who would process crime scenes whilst listening to classical music.

Either way I still fuckong hate her.
