>expect horror kino
>get the horror equivalent of Spinal Tap instead
>>
So....you didn't like it?
>>
It's genuine cosykino.

This is unironically one of my favorite movies. Are any of Koji Shiraishi's other movies as good? The covers makes them look like weapon grade slop
>>
Yes, spinal tap is to comedy as noroi is to horror: one of the best.
>>
>>214537259
Your point, nigga?
>>

Occult is the most similar to Noroi, but it's nowhere near as good. Worth a watch, though. The rest are trash.
>>
>>214537259
I've been meaning to watching it but never got around it. Feel free to noroipill me in whichever way you like, OP

Interesting. I was considering Occult, just because of the cover and the reviews but it really is less than ideal. Seeing Noroi, you can sense how its weird mix of silly/creepy/campy could easily make the whole movie teeter into something unwatchable, something that seems to have happened to his other movies, but I don't know since I haven't watched them

Watch something by Kiyoshi Kurosawa if you want continue the streak with odd but well-made japanese horror, I was blown away by Chime for example

Marebito 2004 by Takashi Shimizu is also very good for weird Japanese horror. Very underrated film.
>>
Is his Senritsu Kaiki File series any good?
>>
>>214537929
Agreed, Marebito is fantastic.

They're really hit or miss since the production value varies drastically between different bits. I remember one was literally just people in trash bags in a parking garage.
>>
>>214537929
Added, looks promising. Also seems to fall in the category of director who's made 50 films and you don't know which are worthwhile. The grudge movies are obviously competent but I don't think I'd ever consider them some of my favorites

Do it.
Occult ending freaked me the fuck out its so jarring and weird.
Everyone also check out Murder Death Koreatown too for a strange american found footage.

This movie is pretty terrifying idk what you on about. Yeah the crazy guy is kinda funny, but it gets scary when you realize he really does have psychic powers, and the ending made me piss and shit myself, one of the best jumpscares ever.
People love reccomending Occult but that one actually sucks dick. The acting is worse, it's much more clunky in everything, no real buildup, it's like some amateur emulating what made Noroi great. Around the start of the movie it tries to scare you with a fucking napkin flying off the table or something like that, shit was ridiculous.
>>
>>214537609
occult and cult are worth watching and have some unsettling moments but noroi was his peak, the other 2 are more like b-movies in comparison.
>>
Need a list of recommendations by someone who understands why Noroi and Cure are the best odd jap horror movies
>>
>>214537609
whichever one had the cosmic worms in it really freaked me out
>>
>>214537259
It would've been an okay movie if it weren't for the paranormal investigator being ridiculously stupid in adopting the cursed deaf-mute child he found at the cult's temple. Somehow he wasn't able to put two-and-two together despite being in an occult investigator.
