There's an entire generation that doesn't just like Rick and Morty and that style of humor, they were RAISED on it. They don't watch old Trek because it's icky and old, ironically much the same way you feel about TOS (you fucking pleb), and they want to just take things they like about Star Trek and "modernize them" by making it all about gay interpersonal drama and issues of personal identity where everything is a dystopia but that doesn't stop our hardluck heroes from making sarcastic quips every 30 seconds because they're irony poisoned!

What baffles me is how you can think your tastes in media are somehow objective. That's some world-class narcissism you've got going there.
>>
>>214580981
I dont like TOS because I can't get into the characters. Some of the plots are really great, but I think the characters are flat. The actors are amazing, and they really commit to what they are given, and there is so much sincerity in Nimoy's performance as essentially a stoic person, but the main cast of characters themselves do nothing for me.

I think it is interesting in TNG how they were like 'we need something like Spock, but we can't do Spock again' and they came up with Data. I love Data, but like I said Spock does nothing for me, and it is hard to watch a show if you dont care about the main cast and if they live or die. I think this is also why I can't make it through Voyager.
>>
>>214581017
>>214581051
Maybe because we're not dead inside, like you apparently are? Lighten up; it's just a TV show. Anyone who gets this uptight about a commercial entertainment franchise is a major lolcow who has no real problems & nothing going on in their lives.

>>214581117
Spock is a far more interesting character than Data, who is just a base rehash of Pinocchio. There is way more nuance to Spock and Nimoy's performance is great. There's a lot going on there, I don't know how else to say it, and what, the rest of the characters are more interesting than Kirk/Spock/McCoy? Like you care more about Geordi than Spock and find his character less flat and more compelling?

It's an opinion en par with a Nu Trek viewer, BF. Embarrassing stuff.
When I came back to these threads, I was honestly surprised you weren't Nu Trek's number one cheerleader because it seems like it would be right up your alley.

Well, debating your terrible opinions aside, my point stands: you not liking TOS is the same reason these Nu Trek faggots ignore Berman Trek.

It's because, to them, the characters are flat and it's too dated and boring and blah blah blah people talk too much and it's too serious, etc. So next time you're trying to understand the mentality of a Nu Trek fag, just get a mirror and think about TOS.

The thing about boomers liking nuslop is that they are stupid and undiscerning and always were. They didn't watch TOS because the recognized and appreciated the quality of it they watched it because it was like the only sci fi thing on TV back then. They probably enjoyed other terrible slop shows too. They think because it has a Star Trek logo on it it's Star Trek. That's the level they operate at.
>>
>>214581297
You're being way too harsh. Not being able to get into TOS is nowhere in the realm of liking nutrek.

>>214581338

>>

when i would gleam trekBBS for boomer opinions it's amazing to me how many of them talk as if they never watched TOS or haven't in years. when they defend nutrek's stereotypical protrayal of kirk, spock, bones, and so forth, they act like they only know TOS from pop culture references or futurama
>>

Most Star Trek fans haven't seen TOS. It's a fact. The current generation of slop gobblers grew up on TNG, DS9, VOY. They're aware of TOS, they might have seen an episode or two, but they haven't watched the show in its entirety. So when Kurtzman remakes TOS and completely butchers characterization of legacy characters no one bats an eye. Because they don't know any better. Like you said, their understanding of TOS is through cultural osmosis.
>>
>>214581468

>>214581505
But you are being a sperg. To not enjoy TOS while enjoying Berman Trek is simply to be willfully retarded.

Even the way you talk about it is deterministic. You've corralled yourself into a stupid corner where you see the show a certain way and can't even give it an honest chance. Much the same as people who refuse to give anime a chance.

Who cares what modern audiences want

in this age of decentralized media, you should aim for niche markets and then try to draw in general audiences by being actually GOOD and generating good publicity and word of mouth like Andor did.
Trying to water everything down to its most generalized form is trying to hit a grand slam every time you come up to the plate -- Hollywood needs to get back to hitting for singles instead of swinging for the 'cultural phenomenon' or 'it has to make a billion to break even' fences. Try to get on base for fuck's sake.

Streaming services are littered with the corpses of dead shows that have tried to become the next big thing by pandering to marketing demographics and trend chasing. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars wasted.
Why they refuse to just MAKE STAR TREK, I have no fucking idea.

Because they have an idea that comes from test audiences and board room blackboard lists instead of taking spec scripts and listening to a person with a concise vision and and actual story they want to tell. They are trying to make an IP to have in a library so they can inflate the price of their company when it gets sold off rather than make entertainment with an actual story worth telling.

Late stage capitalism is a bitch. Maybe if the same six companies owned by the same six 70 year olds didnt own everything maybe there would be more room for new ideas and startups.
>>
>>214583276
It is indeed grim, I will give you that. But if it's truly just about enlarging streaming libraries, they shouldn't really care if it's bad or good and we should still accidentally get some good Star Trek occasionally and so far there's been none of that.

Nothing is more annoying than TOS haters saying the acting is hammy when it's in fact fantastic stage acting. Is your pea brain too small to enjoy The Twilight Zone as well? All of the New Hollywood actors came from this school yet you never hear anyone complaining about them doing the same type of acting.

I'd much rather have elaborate staging & blocking instead of rich nepobabies with a lot of IG followers missing their cue but that was the 85th take & we gotta move on.

it's just not really that useful for most americans. we only border two countries and one of them speaks english. the other speaks spanish and many americans do know some spanish, especially if they live in the south west. if we do travel, most big tourist cities are fairly english-friendly so there's not really a huge incentive to learn a language we'll only be encountering for a couple of days and then potentially never again. but then, most americans don't travel internationally at because of the cost.

Its a really novel solution for dealing with traditional Chinese characters. It is better than the Japanese two alphabets AND we still keep the Chinese characters but some of them might be pronounced different here.

Klingon is awesome. Any other official languages or alphabets in Star Trek? Cardassians have a font, but I don't remember them having a fully realized language like Klingon.

In before I get called a fake fan when I am just trying to make conversation about how cool I think linguistics is.

There is liberal and there is liberal.

The liberalism of Star Trek is measured and respectful, a moderate sort of liberalism that allows for the existence of other perspectives. It acknowledges and respects other ways of life. In the old Trek shows at their best, the other side always gets a chance to explain its perspective no matter how misled they seem through the lens of the viewer.

Modern liberalism and conservatism has become so pronounced and extremist that there is no tolerance for middle ground and the other side is completely dehumanized, disrespected, and its views must never be acknowledged, only damned.
You can't apply our politics to Trek and expect it to fit 1:1.

This thread taught me that BF is a TOS hating retard who doesn't understand Star Trek

>Charm and personality vacuum
>Passively disrespectful most of the time
>Zero bond or chemistry with the crew
>Ugly old hag
